Our tuition is very affordable, and you will learn valuable skills and insights in such fields as Music, Media, and the Performing Arts. All of these programs offer hands-on experiences taught by our outstanding college faculty. At the conclusion of these three-week programs, family and friends will be invited to view student projects and see performances.

Activities will take place in our air-conditioned classrooms and studios, except for fieldwork. You will be encouraged to actively participate in these interactive programs. Application for Summer 2018 Programs

This workshop will provide hands-on activities for the student at the beginner and interme-diate level, interested in audio recording production. Students will do actual sound recording in our state-of-the art audio recording studios using Pro Tools. Principles of recording and mixing music as a group and individually will be the primary focus of this workshop.

Students will receive an introduction to microphone principles, audio recording techniques as well as some ADR sessions to replace dialog, building of sound FX, creating Foley effects, as well as creating music to enhance a movie scene.

The focus will also be on listening skills, coupled with “hands-on-learning,” the students will have the ability to develop their own engineering style of professional recording. Students in this workshop may record live sound of students in the summer guitar program.

Instructor: Professor Grace Lee has scored, produced and engineered soundtracksfor music festivals, radio broadcasting studios and rock bands.

Digital PhotographyGRADES 9 – 12 | JULY 9 – 27 | 9:00 A.M. – 11:45 A.M.

Students will explore and experiment with a wide-range of photographic techniques related to shooting both products and portraits, using the Adobe Creative Suite.

This workshop is comprised of both class-room and field/location work featuring demonstrations, shooting, editing and computer work. Students will learn which lenses are best to use for portraits, light-ing, posing, expressions, backgrounds and props. Discussion on filters, use of tripod techniques will also be covered.

Students can bring their own 35 mm Digital SLR camera and tripod, or can borrow one from the College to do their photographic assignments. (Students are also encouraged to bring one personal USB drive of 16GB or more.)

The workshop will also cover how to setup your own at-home studio using easily available equipment. At the end of the workshop, each students will have their own portfolio website, populated with images they have captured while here.

Instructor: Professor Harold Naideau is an award-winning industryprofessional photographer.

Multimedia Production WorkshopGRADES 9 – 12 | JULY 9 – 27 | 9:00 A.M. – 4:00 P.M.

During this three week workshop, students will write, report, shoot and edit original stories and create a news broadcast and a podcast/radio show. They will cover stories around the campus and their local communities, using social media to disseminate their content throughout Long Island.

Throughout the program, students will learn how to use professional digital cameras, how to edit audio and video and how to use industry standard software in our new state- of- the- art radio station.

The workshop will provide the student with the opportunity to see if Mass Communication or Journalism is something they wish to pursue as a career. It will also give them an insight on how today’s TV, radio and multimedia content providers work.

At the conclusion of the workshop, students will work together as a production team to produce their very own multi-camera or live broadcast radio show.

Instructors: Professor Matt O’Leary has served as WFTU’s General Managerfor four years and in the past worked for Long Island Broadcasting.

Professor Holli Haerr is an Emmy-nominated reporter who has worked at1010 Wins, News 12 and FiOS 1 News as well as the Associated Press.

Students will have the opportunity to begin their film experience by using Cannon HD cameras and professional lighting equipment on the first day of their class.

As part of this summer program, students will write their own short screen play, shoot their own movie and edit all of their own footage in our state-of-art Mac Lab.

Each day, students will have “hands-on-experience” while working as part of a small film crew, helping each other in the completion of their respective movies and projects. Students will also become familiar with character creation, scene development and plot layout in the production of their film.

Each student will develop a short film, where individual and small group work will be encouraged. Students will present their final film version on the last day of the program to their parents and friends. High school junior and seniors may wish to continue to take the intermediate and advanced filmmaking class, which will qualify them for a 3 credit film course – Television Workshop (VID 122), for an additional fee.

Instructor: Professor Dan Galiardi, member of the International Cinematographers

Guild. His film credits include Batman Forever, Independence Day, Jungle2 Jungle

and Law and Order. He has used various cameras including Panavision, Arriflex,

Aaton, Moviecam and Photosonics.

FilmmakingGRADES 9 – 12 | JULY 9 – 27 | 9:00 A.M. – 4:00 P.M.

This two week workshop will sharpen the experienced filmmakers craft with an a hands-on approach using industry standard equipment, software, and techniques.

Students will have the opportunity to use The RED SCARLET DRAGON® camera, Canon EOS C100 Mark II Cinema cameras, record sound on sync audio recorders, and use Arri/Kino Flo lighting equipment. Students will use a green screen, a Model 11 J.L. Fisher Dolly, and learn all the aspects of filmmaking from pre to post production. Editing will be done using state-of-the-art Apple iMac Computers and the Adobe Premiere CC editing software.

A short film will be produced, and students will learn all aspects of pre-production, including scripts, storyboarding, shot lists, and scheduling his/her films. Each student will have an oppor-tunity to create and direct his or her own film.

Students will work in small groups to produce and complete a finished film in this hands-on program. Creativity, originality, and passion will be emphasized.

High school juniors and seniors may receive 3 college credits in VID122 Television Workshop by taking this course along with the first Filmmaking Workshop for an additional fee. This course may be transferable to other colleges who may accept this course offering, or when you apply to Five Towns College.

Instructor: Professor Justin Andrews is an Independent filmmaker with a penchantfor storytelling through character study.

CAST CALL! It’s Time to Audition for Your Summer Stock Experience!

Students in grades 9 through 12 will have the opportunity to participate in a production of Jason Robert Brown’s 13, as well as receive workshops in preparation for a career in Musical Theatre.

Students will be involved in a variety of different theatrical workshops, which begin from Noon to 2 p.m., followed by rehearsals for the play. As the program progresses, the day will be devoted to staging rehearsals.

All activities and workshops will be conducted on the College campus, using our dance studio, black box theatre as well as the main stage theatre. The play, 13 will be performed the weekend of August 3-5, 2018, where friends and family can purchase tickets. The performance may be filmed by our summer film students or recorded by the summer audio recording production students.

An audition is required to determine the talent level of the student. An audition isscheduled for Saturday, April 28 beginning at Noon. Students should call to arrange for an appointment and should come prepared to give a one minute monologue and sing a full song at the audition.

Instructor: Professor Ronald Land, voice instructor/ acting and language coach to

musical theatre and operatic performers throughout the USA and abroad.

Virtual Reality:Build Your Own Mobile App

GRADES 9 – 12 | JULY 9 – 27 | 12:30 P.M. – 3:30 P.M.

Virtual Reality (VR) is the future of immer-

sive entertainment and the student will

have the opportunity to create their own

imaginative, interactive Virtual Reality

environment in this summer workshop.

Students are not required to have previ-

ous experience in this field. They will

learn to build from their imagination, a

visual stunning 3D environment that can

be installed into their mobile phone and

viewed through a Virtual Realty Headset,

which the student will keep at the end of

the workshop.

This workshop will review the fundamen-

tal concepts of 3D modeling and anima-

tion, with the result of producing their own

3D environment. This 3D environment

is the passed into interactive software

that adds the necessary Virtual Reality

components.

The student is taught how to deploy

their Virtual Reality scene they created

to their mobile phones which fit inside

a VR headset. This workshop is one of

many courses offered at the College in

the new Interactive Computer Graphics

degree program.

Instructor: Professor Paul Lipsky has provided creative direction and advanced

animation expertise to such clients as HBO, National Institutes of Health,

MSG Network, CBS Sports and to numerous TV programs.

He is the founder of the “Long Island Visual Professionals” with a membership

of over 500 participants.

Guitar WorkshopGRADES 9 – 12 | JULY 9 – 27 | 9:00 A.M. – 11:45 A.M.

The guitar workshop will provide students with a diverse and exciting program of intensive guitar study. Each student will improve their musical technique, tone, musical reading and performance ability.

The program is for the serious guitar player. Emphasis will be on different styles of music including jazz, Blues, Funk and Classic Rock. Students wills work on developing their skills as both rhythm players and soloists. Electric and acoustic guitars are welcome.

Topics that will be covered include fret-board knowledge, ear training, theory, sight reading. Technique exercises (right and left hand) and both pick and finger style playing. No audition is required as all levels of experience, whether beginner, intermediate or advanced guitar player will be accepted.

At the conclusion of the program, students will perform as soloists or in an ensemble for their friends and family. Students from the summer Broadcasting and Audio Recording programs may record their performances as well.

Instructor: Professor Alex Vietheer is a Jazz and Classical Guitarist from Long Island.He performs with “New York’s Most Dangerous Big Band” and gigs with many other musicians all over the New York City and Long Island area.
