Mary’s Last Recorded Words in the Bible: “Do Whatever He tells You.”
“Do whatever He tells you.” This was Mary’s command to the servants at the wedding at Cana. Despite the
fact that those were her last recorded words in the Holy Scriptures, it is obviously not the last time she is
mentioned in the Bible. This powerful command rings out over the centuries. Mary, in no uncertain terms,
is telling us (not asking us) to follow her Son. When we do what Jesus tells us to do, even if we do not com-
pletely understand, we are able to achieved far greater things. So let’s do what He tells us. That may be
good advice but it is certainly not easy. Of course, God’s ways are not our ways. In order to achieve this,
we must not only listen with our ears but we must also listen with our lives. We are the severs and we are
called to be God’s hands and feet on earth. We are called to live out the message so Mary’s words may be
made relevant for us today. So knowing all of this, why is it that we often find ourselves not listening to
Mary’s command? We are a stubborn people. Our human nature tells us we want things done our way.
But again, God’s ways are not our ways. And He is all too aware of this. Because of God’s great love and
wisdom, we are invited back again and again to try to do it the right way. The more and more we practice
listening and obeying Him, He will reveal more of Himself to us. He will work through us because we are
allowing Him to do so. We are challenged to trust God without hesitation even when we are not able to un-
derstand the meaning or the benefits. Her command is meant to be a way of life and not something that
is achieved from time to time. From the beginning of His public ministry, Jesus called for conversion of
heart and obedience of faith. “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord’ will enter the Kingdom of heaven,
but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven” Matthew 7:21. Long before Mary said, “Do
whatever He tells you,” she had learned to recognize God’s voice, to seek His help in prayer, then to dis-
cern what He was asking her to put into practice. We see a good example of this at the time when the An-
gel Gabriel announced the plan for her to be the Mother of God. Over the centuries, in every age and on
every continent, Mary continues her maternal role, helping us to imitate her Beloved Son. This is exactly
what she was doing when she appeared to the children at Fatima and to Bernadette at Lourdes. This is
what she assists us to do in our time and place in history. Let us rejoice, then, in being invited by Mary to
do the Lord’s will, thereby becoming faithful and beloved disciples of Jesus. –Sherrie Clutts DRE
2020 St. Patrick Rosary Garden Spring Report Happy Spring to all. We are experiencing a very strange spring weather pattern but we do live in Michigan!
We hope that everyone is healthy and staying safe. Our Garden team members are excited to begin anoth-
er year in the beautiful Church gardens. New members are always welcome with open arms. Somehow, we
keep expanding the gardens so the work grows and grows. Please let us know if you would like to join us.
Your commitment is flexible to fit your schedule. It sure is wonderful to be outside working on such a good
project.
Many thanks to those people who purchased plants during our Annual Plant Sale. We had to improvise our
selling approach this spring due to COVID-19 but this parish did a tremendous job with the sale. The money
raised is used to purchase the flowers for the Church grounds and other garden needs. Enjoy the wonderful
flowers that you helped purchase. We are starting our Garden Work Bees this Tuesday, June 2nd (10-12).
We will alternate every other Tuesday (10-2) and Thursday (4-6pm). The next scheduled sessions are: June
2 (Tuesday), June 18 (Thursday), June 30 (Tuesday). Please join us if you are able. We look forward to
seeing you around the Rosary Garden.
