BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION:

• The Board of County Commissioners authorized the overflow consulting engineering firm of Post, Buckley, Schuh,

& Jernigan, Inc., to conduct a preliminary feasibility/corridor study, in 1998, of a future connection between Upper

Manatee River Road and Fort Hamer Road with a new bridge across the Manatee River, during the review of the

Waterlefe Subdivision development proposal.

• The Board of County Commissioners also approved submitting the Upper Manatee River Road connection project

to the Sarasota/Manatee Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) as a priority project to be included in the Florida

Department of Transportation's (FDOT) Five Year Work Program.

• The FDOT included the PD&E phase of this project in its Adopted Work Program and retained the consulting firm of

URS Corporation to conduct the PD&E study. The consultant will present the general scope and outline of the items

to be considered during the PD&E study for the Board's review and comments.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

• Approval of the proposed study methodology
