COMING UP IN OUR WORSHIP SERVICES by Pastor Bruce
This month we will continue our consideration of what many consider to be “the
greatest sermon ever” – what is often referred to as “The Sermon on the
Mount”. In it we have some of the teachings of Jesus as recorded in Matthew’s
gospel – teachings telling us what God wants us to know about being and living as
followers of Jesus Christ. You are encouraged to join us as we “listen in” and
seek to understand what God has communicated.
A “Discussion Guide” is available online (on our website) each week – a guide
that, when I preach, accompanies my message. This guide is usually posted on the website by Friday evening for those
who might want to look it over in preparation for Sunday’s message. If you would like to have this guide emailed to you
each week that it is available, please let us know by contacting the church office or with a note on the communication
card that you should find in the bulletin and which you can place in the offering plate. Paper copies of the Discussion
Guide are available on Sunday mornings in the back of our worship area near the main doors.
Here is what we are planning for Sunday mornings during the upcoming weeks:
September 2 – Matthew 5:10-12 = The Sermon on the Mount: Our Response to Mistreatment & Persecution
September 9 – Matthew 5:13-16 = The Sermon on the Mount: “Salty Saints & Shining Lights”
September 16 – Matthew 5:17-20 = The Sermon on the Mount: How Good is “Good Enough”? (+ Communion)
September 23 – Matthew 5:21-26 = The Sermon on the Mount: What Jesus Said About Anger
September 30 -- Matthew 5:27-30 = The Sermon on the Mount: What Jesus Said About Lust
You can always find out what our upcoming Scripture will be by going to our web site: www.greeleychurch.com. On the
Home Page you can also find a link that will take you to where you can listen to or download past messages shared at
Mountain View Church.
The Search is on…
On September 11, 2001 Lisa Davis
began serving as the Administrative
Assistant at Mountain View. And,
she has decided to “celebrate” 17
years of service by “retiring” from
her position with us. Lisa’s decision
means that we now have the
challenge of identifying, hiring, and
training someone to fill her
figurative “big shoes”.
The position we are looking to fill is
for a full-time (40-hour per week)
person who will be able to work at
the Worship Center Monday
through Friday from 8:30 AM until
5:00 PM. If you are interested or if
you know someone who is interest-
ed and who may be qualified, please
check out or have them check out
the “Administrative Assistant” page
under the “More” tab on the home
page of our church’s website.
There we have posted a “Job
Description” – with some of the
skills we are looking for and
expectations we will have for the
person who fills this position.
We are looking to fill this position
as soon as possible – ideally by no
later than October. We plan to
accept resumes until the second
week of September – which will be
here in just a few more days. Lisa
has graciously agreed to stay on
until we fill this position and is
willing to work alongside the new
hire for a period of time to help
him or her learn the ropes.
Do you ever need a ride to
church on Sunday?
Would you be willing to
occasionally give someone a
ride to church?
We would like to create a list of
those that are able & willing to pick
someone up on their way to church
for those that occasionally need a
ride. They would contact the driver
directly and work out an arrange-
ment. If you are interested, please
let the office know or make a note
on the back of the Communication
Card you’ll find in the bulletin.

NO BETTER TIME…
If you have ever wanted to have a
better understanding of God’s Word,
we offer a number of opportunities
for you to study it together with
others. And, beginning the first
Sunday of September, our new Sunday
Morning Adult Christian Education
classes will begin. And, there are
various other small groups where you
can study God’s Word while getting
to know others and allowing others to
get to know you.
This is an especially good time to
begin attending our adult Bible Class
that is currently taught by Steve
Anderson during the 10:00 period – as
September 2 marks the beginning of a
three-year journey through the Bible
using the Lifeway “Gospel Project”
curriculum. This curriculum will have
this class studying the same general
Bible passage that the children in our
Pre-K through 4th Grade classes will
be studying. So, parents who attend
this class can discuss lessons learned
with their children who have just
studied the same verses! This
class will meet in C-2 at 10:00
AM.
Other options for our Fall Quar-
ter – that runs from September
through November are:
“Love & Respect”: A DVD-driven
course that can help any
married couple strengthen
their marriage. Whether you
are struggling in your
marriage or your marriage is
currently sailing on some
smooth seas, this excellent
course will give you insights
and will challenge you to take
steps to make it better and
stronger. Dick Huwa is
serving as the lead teacher for
this class that will meet in C-1
just off the Lobby at 10:00
AM.
“Headlines”: A class for those in
the “College & (Young)
Career” stage of life, Paul
Blair will lead this group in a
weekly discussion of some of the
“big” issues of our day – with an
emphasis on what the Bible has
to teach us that relates to these
issues. This class will meet in
C-8 at 10:00 AM
“Be Alert – Beware of Religious
Imposters” by Warren Wiersbe:
This class will be led by Kevin
Arnett (with Dan Allen assisting
with the teaching) will be
studying 2 Peter, 2 & 3 John, and
Jude – books in which find prac-
tical insights for discerning truth.
“Explore the Bible – Galatians &
James”: Led by Steve Anderson,
this class will meet in C-1 and
begins at 8:30 AM (during the
first worship service). A person-
al study guide for daily at-home
study is optional.

looking for volunteers to help with
some setting up and rearranging of
chairs and tables for, during, and after
the conference. And, we will need
people who are able and willing to
provide a lunch on Tuesday, snacks

There will be an informational meeting for folks
interested in serving on a short term ministry team –
probably early in 2019, although the date isn’t set yet.
We are interested in serving with Samaritan’s Purse and
current options include Marshalltown, Iowa following a
tornado, California wildfires, and recovery from last
year’s hurricane in southern Texas. Those interested
will help decide the final choice and date, and it could
be something not currently on the list. We are
planning this to be in the US to keep the cost down to
something under $500 per person. If interested,
contact the office or Dick Huwa and plan to meet at
9:45 am following the first worship service in Room C3
on September 23rd.

Thank you to everyone who volunteered
for our August 18th Family Fun Day!
We had over 100 volunteers and over 50 MV families
participate in various ways, including delivering
invitations, volunteering the day of,
providing cookies, etc…
We had so much help setting up that we were ready
to go an hour early!
The weather was cool, which was so refreshing!...
unless you were working at the Sit and Soak game!
Even the rain didn’t stop the kids from having fun!
Our attendance for the day was around 400, including
all of us. Good conversations were had with visitors
and hopefully they felt welcomed.
Please continue to pray for those that attended— that
if they don’t have a church home they might feel
comfortable worshipping with us and that those who
don’t have faith in Christ will feel drawn to him.

CROSS-TRAINING GROUP FOR
GIRLS FORMING
Do you really want to be challenged to
grow deeper in your faith and
commitment to God? Join a Cross-
Training group.
Cross-Training groups are more than
just Bible Study groups. In Luke 9:23,
Jesus tells His followers that “If anyone
would come after me, he must deny
himself and take up his cross daily and
follow me.” Cross-Training groups will
help each student establish spiritual
disciplines to grow in their understand-
ing of as well as their devotion and
service to God, and help hold each
other accountable for our daily actions
and attitudes. Cross-Training groups
meet weekly at a time established by
the members of the group and their
leader. The accountability provided in
these groups, along with the studies,
Scripture memory, Bible reading, peer
interaction and counseling, and
developed relationships with the leader,
help give students who desire to be
challenged and grow in their faith a
wonderful opportunity to do so.
This new group will be limited to high
school girls only. If you are interested
in joining a Cross-Training group,
please contact Mike by Sunday,
September 23.
