“Initially, in the beginning, we were coming here looking for general partners. But in recent years, we’re mostly displaying TP-Link’s new consumer products. TP-Link...GITEX as a platform to meet new partners, it quickly decided that new product launches provided more value at GITEX.

“TP-Link has been a part of GITEX for many years, and each year, we prepare something new

for GITEX,” he told 60 Minutes. “Initially, in the beginning, we

were coming here looking for general partners. But in recent years, we’re mostly displaying TP-Link’s new consumer products. GITEX is now like a

national showroom for TP-Link. We show the new designs and the new products to customers. We also have training sessions.”

Xu said that, while TP-Link is always open to exploring new partnerships, it had already acquired a solid partnerbase across the UAE and wider Middle East, so the focus instead falls on new product l ines.

A case in point is the new Archer C7 ac router, which the vendor launched recently in the Middle East. The device supports the next-generation 802.11ac Wi-Fi standard, and can deliver performance up to 1.75Gbps, thanks to simultaneously running 2.4GHz 450Mbps and 5GHz 1,300Mbps connections, Xu said.

Another new product at the

TP-Link stand this GITEX comes in the form of the vendor’s new PLC adaptor, which Xu said was designed specifically with the Middle East in mind.

“Some houses in the USA are old, so the Wi-Fi signal easily goes through them. But in the Middle East, most of the houses are big and the walls are very thick, so people need solutions to make sure that there’s good Wi-Fi signal everywhere,” he explained.

This week, the vendor has also showcased a number of portable wireless solutions, as well as outdoor, long-range wireless solutions.

“With these products this year at GITEX, I think we can improve the TP-Link brand image in the Middle East market,” Xu said.

American data protection firm Unitrends has been at GITEX Technology Week 2013 to branch further into the “buoyant” Middle East market.

“We offer back-up replication and archiving appliances, and we deliver both hardware and virtual solutions,” said Kevin Moreau, Managing Director EMEA, Unitrends. “We’re also involved with cloud as back-up, but our primary role is to help clients with data protection and disaster recovery.

“Although we are one of the oldest startups in the industry, we are not known internationally. There has been significant demand outside of the U.S, and we have invested heavily in international development.”

Unitrends has opened operations in London, France and Germany,

with the Middle East the latest addition to that list.

The company has distributors in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and UAE, as well as some big partners in the region, including Gulf IT.

Moreau said he is confident that the versatility and range of his company’s products will be a success in this region.

“Our Unitrends enterprise backup (UEB) software, which is part of our Recovery series, offers 12 appliances, which range from half a terabyte to 100 terabytes,” he said.

“The appliances we are offering are physical ones that combine the storage of an operating system and data protection software. From a functional perspective it does backup data, data protection, system protection, but also archiving beyond

that remit. “The software is lifted from the

appliance so it has exactly the same interface. The idea is to combine four or five products; backup, replication, system recovery and disaster recovery into one solution. Basically this product will allow the customer to manage a huge amount of data.”

He added that he is especially aware of the “window of opportunity” that is offered at GITEX Technology Week in turns of gaining access to the Middle East market.

The Middle East is certainly a buoyant market, and one of the areas we are seeing the most demand in,” he said. “Compared to conventions in Europe, GITEX is huge, and there is a massive level of expertise here so it’s a great platform for us.

Abbyy...Unitrends utilises GITEX to increase Middle East presence when there is information on paper

and it needs to be converted, edited and send to someone. Or if there is a PDF from a multifunctional printer and the user wants to convert that into some searchable information so that when it is stored, they can find it later.

Furthermore, it can be applied when information is collected from people on paper forms, and the particular fields on the form need to be converted into database.

“We provide all of these solutions,” says Pakhchanian, who is present at the event in order to ensure that everyone in the market is aware of its solutions. “When people send invoices to each other, you have choices to either manually put all the information into the system, or you can do it automatically through our solution.

Abbyy has been presenting its first invoice solution at GITEX Technology Week 2013.

What is attractive for the region is the fact that the company’s solutions support the Arabic language.

“There is an OCR provided for Arabic and we are working fiercely to keep improving this technology because we consider this market to be growing and is an exciting one for us,” Pakhchanian said.

Abbyy has been operating out of Muscat, Oman, for the Middle East region, but is now seriously considering establishing an office in the UAE in the near future.

“Over the years, we learned that there is a time when partners expect your presence closer to them as their businesses grow and want to maintain relationship at close proximity,” Pakhchanian added.

HP boasts of software strengths

Karam Jabi , Industry Standard Servers Business uni t Manager, HP Middle East, took t ime to te l l 60 Minutes the d i rect ion HP is going tak ing in the software arena.

The IT giant has healthily grown its software capabilities and portfolio in the last 12 months, and has been rewarded with a strong market share in the Middle East.

According to Jabi, much of the company’s offerings are being driven by the trend of virtualisation, which has taken the enterprise by storm.

“The main current market trends that we are catering our software for is the increase in online transactions, and of virtualisation, and, in particular, achieving easy access to a variety of data from the office area,” he said.

“Most of the products we have consequently designed cater for this future around easy access and virtualisation, and their fusion into the business world. They are becoming core aspects of an

certainty that the originality and precision of HP’s Moon Shot software has massive potential to transform data traffic.

“Our main offering at GITEX is the smallest server ever built, Moon Shot,” he said. “This platform is currently designed for static workshops, but in the future we see potential in the gaming industry, as the current platform is very compact in size.

“In a 4.3u space, we can fit 45 server units and will cater for any specific needs. These software defined servers are specifically designed. Every company that uses a portal is a potential future client for us.

HP will be launching a few additional products in this area before the end of 2013, he added.

“The trends we are seeing now run parallel to those when blades came onto the market. This explosion of data will create the need for a variety of products.”

Tejuri.com, the UAE’s biggest online mall, is showcasing its unique platform designed to drive ecommerce growth in the region at GITEX Technology Week 2013, and welcome its 100th retailer at the event.

The online mall is the first and only multi-department online shopping destination in the Middle East and claims it will become the biggest in terms of volume within the next three to five years.

“There can be no doubt today of the value that an online presence brings to businesses in our region if they want to grow and capture a growing community of online shoppers,” said Ayaz Maqbool, Managing Director, Tejuri.com. “Their chief concern, however, is how to go online quickly and efficiently, and with minimal risk and investment.
