Overview
This Landscape Design Report has been prepared by ASPECT
Studios in collaboration with Jackson Clements Burrows Architects.
It sets forth the guiding principles for the landscape design to the
public external spaces of the development at 60-88 Langridge Street
and 23-45 Waterloo Road, Collingwood.
The site sits between Waterloo Road and Langridge Street, and
between Wellington Street and Noddle Street. The 1,956 square
metre site currently hosts a showroom warehouse and carpark, and
is situated next to the Yorkshire Brewery redevelopment undertaken
in the 1990's.

Design Intent
The following landscape proposal builds on the
architectural material palette by incorporating brick and
concrete pavers that connect with the strong architectural
columns within the site. The materiality of the paving
corresponds with the column finishes, namely a light
concrete, grey brick, and brown brick.
The paving pattern is inherited from the strong
architectural language of the column grid across the site,
yet adds an organic element through in-ground garden
beds cut out of the paving pattern at key moments.
The main lobby entrance from Langridge Street sees
the external paving flow into the lobby space directing
movement to the buildings main staircase, and providing
a direct connection with the street.
A proposed pedestrian laneway connects the North-
South of the site between Langridge Street with the
existing Waterloo Road Laneway, and a further East-West
connection provides further access to the proposed
development. Large pot planters line the Western side
of the laneway, providing colour and green amenity for
passers-by.
A minimalist, overhanging vertical lighting feature situated
along the length of the laneway adds colour and interest,
and creates a destination feature for the site. It mimics the
architectural language of the vertical columns and offers
the potential for a perspectival shift feature that would
invite people into and through the laneway, encouraging
circulation and connection with Waterloo Road. The
lighting installation would be a unique feature that
would offer a vastly different visual experience at varied
locations throughout the laneway and on the Langridge
Street and Waterloo Road entrances.
