What are the digestive &
urinary systems?
job of digestion
•break down food small materials
Path of digestion
1. mouth• chew food using teeth (adults = 32)• salivary glands-moisten & digest
food• tongue- moves food & has taste buds
Tongue pushes food down the digestive system
epiglottis•flap that covers windpipe when you swallow
2. esophagus•tube that carries food stomach
•moves food down by squeezing rings of muscles
3. stomach•walls covered w/ protective lining of mucus
4. small intestine•pancreas & liver
send chemicals here
•covered w/ villi-–tiny finger shaped structures
–give more surface area to absorb food
villi in small
intestine
5. large intestine (colon)
•has helpful bacteria- make vitamins & keep out disease causing bacteria
•takes water & salts from wastes YouTube video-Where Did I Go-Path of Digestion

Urinary System
includes:
1. kidneys•pair of organs
that remove water, salt & wastes from blood
•regulate & control level of salts & water in blood
2. urinary bladder2. urinary bladder
•stores urine (mix of wastes & water) until ready to leave body
3. lungs
•take in oxygen & remove carbon dioxide
4. sweat glands• release
extra water, salt & wastes as sweat
