Water week in Marghita12 – 16 March 2012

As a result of project W.E.L.C.O.M.E promotion within the local community around the date of celebrating World Water Day we have decided to organize special events focusing on the importance of water in our daily lives.

Our schools, civil society and the town hall of Marghita initiated a collaboration to mark this special event. So we came up with this project “Water week in Marghita”.

The purpose of these events was mainly informatory and we tried to rise awareness of young people and adults regarding our duty, that of maintenance, preservation and protection of water resources.

Throughout the week various competition were held and children of all ages, civil society and adults as well were involved. Different contests were organized such as: posters competition, poems and essays contests but also photography exhibitions.

The banks of Barcău River were cleaned and a visit at the water wells of the city was also organized.

As a result of these efforts, people also launched a march and different materials regarding the above mentioned matter were given to people and they pointed once again the importance of water nowadays in our lives.

At the end of the week the most successful and inspired works were awarded during a special ceremony held at the town hall, where representatives and local authorities held discussions with the participants on this topic.

All events were a good opportunity to remind everyone how important and necessary are concrete efforts to protect and rationally exploit water, to provide drinking water for consumption, according to international standards, in accordance with population needs.
