The NSS team of our college was fortunate enough to
be amongst the four colleges selected for the NSS
Special Camp. Around 50 volunteers of our college
went for the camp. The camp was conducted for 7
days at Bhagini Nivedita College, one of the Delhi
University colleges.
Since the main objective of the camp was related to
our NSS Motto and Social Service, we went to two
villages nearby the college, the Kair and Mitrao
Villages. The visit to the villages not only allowed us
to face the reality of the world, but was rather our
first step in the direction of giving our service on
larger scale, than we are generally able to. When we
took part in surveys, there were many layers to the
answers given by villagers which deepened our
knowledge and approach towards the research. The
camp not only included the village visit and surveys,
we were trained in Self Defense and Civil defense as
well. Every day, we used to have guest lectures from
great individuals who imparted in us a lot of
knowledge and we gained a lot from those 7 days.

We would like to express my special thanks of
gratitude to my teacher Ms. Sangeeta as well as our
principal Mrs. Pratyush Vatsala who gave us the
golden opportunity to do this wonderful project on
the topic uses and availability of information
technology and awareness in kair village, which also
helped us in doing a lot of research and I came to
know about so many things I am really thankful to
them.
Secondly we would also like to thank our parents
and friends who helped us a lot in finalizing this
project within the limited time frame.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:-
Team 2 of lakshmibai college has surveyed that smart
phone is used by most of the people in kair village. Mostly
the young generation knows about how to use a mobile
phone with latest apps and technologies and want their
children also technologies. Men use smart phone just to
tap on the answer button and pick up the call and then end
it. The other applications of the phone are unknown to
them. Women are little backward in using smart phones as
some doesn’t even know the basic usage of it. Kair people
are unaware of the latest technologies which are being
used nowadays. Most of the people do not know about the
messaging application, SOS messages, trackers etc. during
the survey, we observed about the interest of the people.
Kair residents are willing to learn about the new
technologies and their children also to learn and be aware.
They believe that in modern times, one should have
enough knowledge to survive. The volunteers guided them
and make them aware of some applications which are
useful for women like HIMMAT app, WITH U app etc. and
explained them how can they be benefited by these apps.
People were very cooperated and supportive and they also
want to study and learn to match up with today’s time.

OBJECTIVE OF STUDY
Our objective of the project is to spread education of
technology, to make village people aware of
technology. Effective use of technology is a very
important challenge so it is important that the people
of village recognize and make sense of the many
connections within and across the technology
achievement and learning objective, to encourage
them for technical education, recognizing the wider
technical changes taking place in the society and their
relationship with the life of rural communication. We
tried to empower the villagers with appropriate
technology. The focus is on such technology and
technical skills that are relevant and beneficial in the
everyday lives of common people in these rural
communities. To make them grasp and to become
proficient in using and managing advanced
technologies with appropriate training and support, to
train them in maintenance, repair and upkeep of fields
so that they do not depend on outside help for small
issues, to encourage them to acquire new technologies
or keeping traditional technology because it
acknowledge the value of both and the need to
empower people with both to increase their level of
self-reliance.
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
Our research methodology gathered relevant data from
the specified way that is survey in village and we have
compiled database in order to analyze the material and
arrived at a more complete understanding of the live
interviews that we had taken during survey in kair village.
Hope to shed light on few following questions through the
research:-
(1) What is the channels used for communication?
(a) E-mail (b) videoconferencing
(c)headset (d) oral/written
(2) do you have access to internet?
(a) yes (b) no
This project provides both qualitative and quantitative data
collection is rooted in a quantitative epistemological
position that recognizes the importance of locating the
level of awareness about the technology in the village/rural
area as compared to urban areas.
This quantitative evaluation utilizes leveraging
subjective method such as interviews and observation to
collect substantive and relevant data. During the proposal
visit we investigated the education level, channels for
communication, internet accessibility etc. This investigation
allowed detection of daily usage of technology in village
area.
Being a volunteer of NSS of DU, north campus,
allowed us the opportunity to make them aware for
technology, its uses as well as its attributes.
INTRODUCTION
Technology is the collection of techniques, skills,
methods and processes used in the production of goods or
services or in the accomplishment of objectives, such as
scientific investigation. Technology can be the knowledge
of techniques, processes etc. or it can be embedded in
machines, computers, devices and factories, which can be
operated by individuals without detailed knowledge of the
workings of such things.
In kair, we saw that these were less people who
knows about technology. There were many people who
are educated but they don’t know anything about the
technology we done survey there about the status of
technology. We asked many questions to the villagers
about the technology. We told them about the technology
and aware them about the uses and availability of
technology.
DATA ANALYSIS
The area which was given to us that “kair village”, a
village where we survey about the fact that how much
they make use of new technology or they have been
aware of it. Our mostly interaction was with people above
40. They all were married and their education level was
not so good. Most of them were 5th or 10th passed. What
we found there was that they all aware of new
technologies. They know how to use computers, laptops
and internet. But mostly families have not their own
computers or laptops. They seemed to be interested in
technologies but the problem was they were not aware of
the benefits of it. Most of the people using mobile phones
just use it for the basic communication, even they don’t
know about all the features they have in their smart
phones. Some families have their own computers but
they don’t use it properly. We found only two houses
where they are using laptops and computers on daily
basis. There we asked few questions like “do you think
internet and laptops become a necessary need for you
and your children” they replied “NO, NOT AT ALL, internet
and laptops are not necessary for us we are happy
without them but they want that their children must
know about such technologies. New generation almost
knew how to operate laptops but the old generation was
not so much aware that how to operate a laptop or
computer or even smart phones. But want to know and
some of them know how to play music in laptops and
computers.
So at the end we find that they are aware about
most of the new technologies and we hope that in their
schools also these technologies are in us, so that they can
learn more about the new features of such technical
devices (laptop, computer and smart phones).
8
CONCLUSION
There are clearly both pros and cons of adolescent
technology use. The point is it is important for adolescent
to learn and understand technology. It becomes a part of
daily life for all people to use a computer or a cell phone.
It is necessary in most situations, especially for when they
are older and have jobs. However, technology use must
not be excessive. Extreme technological use in adolescent
can cause all sorts of problems, socially and physically. It
is important for adolescent to understand that yes,
technology is an amazing thing, but at the same time, it
should not be used all the time. They should not be overly
dependent on it. The new generation need to learn that
sometimes, technology is not the right solution in every
situation.
In kair village, people are not properly using
mobile phones, laptops, notepads and computers.
Actually they are using but for general purpose not for
their own development. They all are aware about the
technologies but they don’t give so much importance to
such technologies. According to them they are having a
good life with the basic use of such technologies. As we
noticed that there were so many more problems which
people of kair village facing and they can easily resolve
them with the use of technology but they don’t have any
knowledge about this fact.

Introduction
This project mainly focuses in the ‘Availability of Administrative Resources ‘
in the village ‘Kair’.
Kair is a village located in the Najafgarh area of south west Delhi. With a
population of over 6,500 as of 2011, the village is not as populated as others in
the region, an area near the Delhi-Haryana border.
Objective of the
project
The project aims to put light on the lives of the people of 'not so posh' areas of
the Indian capital. The people of the village 'Kair' which falls under *The
availability of water resources in the area be it pipelines,or any other fresh water
resource.
*Proximity of police stations in the area
*Government hospitals and dispensaries in the village.
*How far are banks and ATMs located
*Schools and colleges, the facilities available, staff and equipments etc.
to name a few.
Area of Study
Ration Shops Rural families in low income states depends far less on ration shops
for some necessary items like wheat and rice.Despite these things
pulses, sugar and kerosene oil is also available in ration shops. In
'Kair' village, during our survey we found that people were all
satisfied with these shops.According to the villagers there was no
delay in the deliverance of ration and the day, timing of opening and
closing of the shops is fixed .Now about the quality of
grains, somepaople were satisfied but some could see a big room for
improvement.
Conclusion:
Atlast our team concluded that the ration shops system is good in
the village but not better, some changes should be there in quality
and amount of the grains provided to the villagers.
GovernmentSchools/Colleges There are three govt. schools and one private school. From these 2
government schools, girls & boys study in different different school.
There is a college " Bhagini Nivedita College " of Delhi University.
Area of Schools & College is large.
There is no science stream in school. Buildings are not bad but a
portion of clg is in bad condition.
Mostly students study in private schools and those study in
government school , they told us that teachers did not done their
work properly ( specially English teacher).People want that their
children study ingovernmentschool. They demand for science stream.
Sewage It is really very strange that Delhi , which is India's National Capital,
one of the fastest growing metropolitan cities of country, does not
have a proper sewage disposal and drainage system.
The Kair ( village of delhi) has no proper sewage and drainage
system.
There is only one type of sewers and drains that is open drains.
There are not underground piped sewerage and covered surface
drains. The waste water of whole village goes to small ponds( may
be 2 or 3 ponds there) where there is a lot of waste material like
polythene, garbage,animal and human waste.
Water Resource
Police Stations
Hospitals/Dispensaries
Banks and ATMs
Roads and Streetlights
Research
Methodology Our research was based on long days of planning and collecting information
before our visit to the village.
Research methodology included a pre designed questionnaire based on various
agendas and fields to be worked on later during our research work.
The survey was another aid to our research work. It included door to door
interactions with the natives if the area. This helped in better understanding and
effective exchange of ideas for both the ends.
Lastly the use of Hindi language as the medium for communication proved to be
of great help .
Observations and
Conclusions
Water Resource
There was a huge huge shortage of water in the area.
There are water pipelines but dry and defunct.
There is no water tank for the village water supply.
The ground water level is to low plus the water is unfit for drinking. The hard
ground water can't even be used for bathing or washing purposes.
The weekly supply of drinking water is the only hope to the people of Kair.
Lest they are left with no other choice but to literally carry water from as far as
3kms on their heads.
Hospitals/Dispensaries
The people have long forgotten if there is a hospital in the village or not.
All count on the private hospitals in nearby Jafapur area for every heath issue,
be it a general heath check-up on an emergency.
There is a semi functional dispensary in the village where doctors and other
medicinal facilities are unavailable.
No proper clinic or health centre could be seen in the village.
Sewage/Drainage System The drainage system is very poor in the area.
Roads could easily be seen clogged and full of potholes due to running water.
Huge landmass in the center of the village was wasted and made into a dumping
ground which aided mosquito breeding, bad odour etc in the area.
Improper and inadequate sewage treatments have impacted environment and
people in many ways...
* untreated & open drainage have produced conducive breeding for mosquitoes,
flies, rodents, insects and other diseases carrying vectors.
* Untreated sewage has led to stinking and foul smell.
* During rain, there is lot of problem, water come to roads with mud and other
waste material.
Police stations There were no police stations nearby
People had to rush Jafarpur police station for any emergency.
Females were least bothered about there being a women cell or not.
Most of the people were unaware of the proximity of police stations.
Government Schools/Colleges There were two separate all girls and all boys schools but with just a handful of
strength.
Private schools are mushrooming in the area but not much in Kair village
particularly.
The students prefer to go to private schools in Najafgarh area.
Recently a Federal Bank Branch has been set up in the village that too looks like
a temporary office rented by villagers only.
Handful of people has applied for opening an account in the Federal Bank.
No ATM facility in the village.
Roads and Streetlights Roads were made of concrete and in a satisfactory condition at some places.
Some roads were full of potholes due to constant running water (after washing
and bathing or sewage overflow)
While at other places there were no roads at all.
Streetlights were in a satisfactory condition.
The people need to raise their voices against their issues.
A government office/cell should be established in the village itself for people to
avail basic facilities like electricity/water bill payment etc.
Suggestive
measures
The pond has become a breeding space for the mosquitoes and flies causing
infections and diseases to the people. It should be cleared at the soonest.
There should be a park/open area in place of that pond for senior citizens to
spend some leisure time and interact.
There should be a clinic in area.
There should be a National Service centre in the area for people(esp. Senior
citizens) to connect to the digital world.
There is an urgent need of a water reservoir in the area owing to water scarcity
issues.
Delhi Jal Board is the authority responsible for designing of sewage
management but it does not take any serious step.
Open drains, which need to be replaced with piped sewerage.

MEDICAL AMENITIES
Although private sectors has been playing a crucial role in
curative health care in urban areas but in rural areas
government facilities are the only available sources for
curative care.Primary health centre is the first contact point
between a village community and the medical officer. It has
a medical officer and other para-medical staff. Its is run by
the government and usually has in and out patient
facilities. The villagers stated that despite of being such a big
village,no medical facility has been created in the village. In
this village that lacks the most basic amenities for medical
treatment or easy excess to city medical facilities. The
survey says that no doctor and other facitilities are available
in the village. In any kind of emergency they used to go
Najafgarh. There is one government hospital in
Najafgarh. Some people said that they are satisfy with
government facilities and some are not. They said that they
give only one medicine or one injection to every patient
either they are suffering from any disease. There are also
some sanitation issues in government hospitals. It was stated
that the schedule of cleaning is not proper. If we talk about
private hospitals, private hospitals were equally scarce the
nearest one being more than 3-4 km away. The private
clinics or doctors were more readily available. They look
after the patient carefully and regularly. They also treat the
patient on time. The essential ingredient of urban life, the
medicine shop,selling medicines of any
kind,homeopathic,allopathic were found exist
rarely.CHILD HEALTHA child is considered to be fully
immunized if he/she was received one dose each of BCG
and measles and three doses each of DPT and polio.Usually
the parents not being aware of immunization.
MATERNAL AND REPRODUCTIVE
HEALTH
Sexual and reproductive health service encompass three
main areas: Contraceptive services, maternal health services
and services related to sexually transmitted diseases.Access
to safe abortion is restricted and, in some of those, unsafe
abortion causes more than 30% of maternal deaths.Of all
deaths related to sexual and reproductive health, those from
abortion are most likely to be underestimated and arguably
the most preventable.According to the survey, the number of
females in the village is very high, including the
women, girls and infants. As per the data, there’s lack of
hospital facilities in the area,so basically maternal, infant and
reproductive health is at stake.Water problems, absence of
toilets and improper sanitary conditions put a big question
mark on the health of people.Very less number of people are
educated in the village which definitely shows that there’d
be lack of awareness too, about disinfecting the tools used
during the delivery.Lack of education means lack of
awareness. The population of the the village is so high that
soon it’d exceed the digit 5000 and would no more remain a
village.Medical facilities aren’t given to the villagers and
they keep on having unprotected sea.The concept of
tubectomy and vasectomy has to be
introduced.Moreanganvari centres have to be set up for
better development of the women.Seminars should be
conducted in order to make women aware about the
vaccinations and the type of diet, the baby has to be supplied
with.Religion here plays a very important role, males are
provided with many more facilities and females aren’t given
that much importance.Female children aren’t accepted even
before birth and female foeticide takes place, adversely
affecting the maternal health.
SANITATION
Sanitation is the hygienic means of promoting health
through promoting health through prevention of human
contact with the hazards of wastes as well as the treatment
and proper disposal of sewage or waste water. As we entered
the village we saw cowdungs on the roadside which made a
doubt in our mind about the hygiene of villagers. We started
the cleanliness rally and went through the small lanes of
village. We found that the area has open sewage
system.Peoplescemed to be less concerned about
cleanliness.Water was there on the roads,if there was some
construction work all the things were spreadout on the
roads. We started our survey and went from home to home
to collect information. We asked them their main concern
and no doubt it was cleanliness, looking upon the conditions
of village.Everyone was dealing with the problem of
unhygienic surroundings.Everyone had a problem with it
but no one was willing to do anything. For them it was like
the “let it be” condition.Flies and mosquitoes were all
around the village. We saw kids taking bath and people
washing their cattle on the roads. As a whole we found that
all of them were throwing their waste on a swampy land
called “jhod”.It is like a lake of garbage.People are living
just next to it and still dumping their wastes there without
even realizing its hazardous effects.Providing sanitation to
people requires a systems approach, rather than only
focusing on the toilet or wastewater treatment plant
itself. The experience of the user, excreta and wastewater
collection methods,transportationor conveyance of
waste, treatment and reuse or disposal all need to be
thouroughly considered.
NRHM
The National Rural Health Mission(NRHM) is an initiative
undertaken by the government of India to address the health
needs of underserved rural areas launched in April 2005 by
ex-prime minister Dr.Manmohan Singh.NRHM was with
addressing the health needs of 18 states that had been
identified as having weak public health indicators. The
Union Cabinet headed by Dr.AnbumaniRamadossNideits
decision dated 1st may 2013 has approved the launch of
National Urban Health Mission(NUHM) as a sub-mission of
an overarching National Health Mission(NHM),with
National Rural Health Mission(NRHM) being the other sub-
mission of National Health Mission.Under the NRHM, the
Empowered Action Group(EAG) states as well as north-
eastern states,Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh
have been given special focus. The thrust of the mission is
on establishing a fully
functional,communityowned,decentralized health delivery
system with inter-sectoral convergence at all levels,to
ensure simultaneous action on a wide range of determinants

Water issue
Water is on the basic amenity of human life. Survival
without water is next to impossible. Not even human beings,
each and every living creature needs water for their
survival. As per our survey in kair village, we found that
people are suffering with this water issue as availability of
water is not enough for the consumption of all villagers.
Supply of water in kair is not proper .Sometimes Delhi Jal
Board provide a water tanker to the village which also
comes when a demand is made .Villagers have to store
water for their use for a week or even for 15 days. But
stored water is not safe as we all know that many diseases
born due to stored water. Sometimes they were provided
water facility in their pipelines but the water comes in the
pipelines is salty.
This salty water also lead to the abatement of crop
production. Such water can be the root of many severe
diseases which can also lead to death. Government should
take some steps regarding this issue and try to resolve the
problem asap.

Collected the information by viewing the reality of village and
the condition of the people specially women, children and
senior citizens. We are able to complete this project by the
togetherness of our group, with the guidance of our teacher Dr.
Sangita madam
SUMMARY OF THE PROJECT Our project is about the conditions of the people in the Kair and
Mitrao village. The biggest problem of the people in the village
is about “Water supply”delhijal board provided them water for
once in a week, and the “Cleanliness”. The most shocking part
in our survey was that in those villages women were quite
educated but they were not allowed to do jobs. They prefer
NAJAFGARH market area for their daily necessities rather than
the markets available near their homes. There were good supply
of “Electricity”. The women
were not given equal status
and opportunities as
compared to men. Girls
were not allowed to wear
weastern clothes. In some
areas men were addicted to
alcohol due to which they
created nuisance and
became the big problem for

Education in Indian villages has always been one of the pillars of the society.
The Indian people are well aware of the advantages of education since the
ancient period and as a result, a proper educational structure was available in
most of Indian villages in ancient period. The people used to send their children
to schools at an early age and the children received education on different
subjects.
In the ancient period, education in Indian villages was in a good state. The
backbone of the education system in ancient India was the Gurukul system. The
children used to receive education from their Gurus or teachers in the Gurukul.
In a Gurukul, the students lived in the house of their Guru. The Gurus taught
the students about the religious texts like Vedas, Upanishads and other texts
and also gave lessons about archery, sword fighting, gymnastics, etc. The main
objective was to make a student fully prepared to face any kind of difficulties in
life. The Gurukul system continued to be in existence for a long period and was
practiced in the medieval period also. The introduction of Madrassa system was
an important event in education in Indian villages during the medieval period.
With the inception of colonial rule in India, the Gurukul system started to lose
its importance. The British rulers made huge changes in the educational scenario
of the Indian villages and they introduced schools that eventually replaced the
Gurukuls. They established schools at primary, secondary levels and also
established colleges to provide higher education. The subjects taught in the
schools were also different from those taught in the Gurukuls. Apart from
Sanskrit and Vedic texts, the students started to learn other languages like
English. Giving lessons about archery, sword fighting or gymnastics was also
demolished with the course of time.
After the independence of India, education in Indian villages witnessed another
massive change.
The Government of India followed the education system set up by the British to a
large extent and established new government schools in the villages. The
government viewed rural education as an effective tool for bringing social change
through community development. More emphasis was laid on primary education
up to the age of 14 years and as a result, many new schools were established in
the villages. The children in villages get their primary education from the
government primary schools. They are taught various subjects including the
languages, mathematics, science subjects, arts subjects, agricultural subjects,
housekeeping subjects, etc. The elementary education of eight years has also been
made compulsory and free for the children in the villages of India. Apart from
that, the government authorities have taken many more steps to further improve
the status of education in Indian villages as well.
In the contemporary period, the status of education in the Indian villages has
improved a lot in spite of having many obstacles. The rural literacy rate in India
is quite impressive and is increasing day by day. The rural literacy has also been
taken as a primary agenda by the government and many private organizations are
helping the government to serve this purpose better.
Women plays a significant in raising children of our society. In villages like
Kair and Mitrao when men are away for earning in the day women are left in
the homes to take care of their children. So children learn more from their
mothers and their female guardians than they learn from their fathers or any
other male guardians in their childhood. Usually in villages the women
maintain a distance from the men of their family showcasing the social
barriers between them. So, to study the educational status of the two villages
first we have to examine the educational status of women in the village
society.
Education status of women differs from family to family in the
village. It depends on various factors like the income of the family, their
priorities about girl child on boy child, their mentality towards educating a
girl, family background and society around them.
May be the family of a girl doesn’t educate her because they
think it is worthless to spend money on a girl as she’ll never pay them back
and will leave the house after marriage one day resulting wastage of money or
may be the family members think that of their mothers , grandmothers and
other women in the family managed to live flawlessly without education then
there is no need of educating a girl or may be because they are unaware of the
rapidly growing world outside or they don’t even want to accept the reality
that the world is changing. Education of girls in villages also depends on the
age they are supposed to get marry at. Different age groups of the villagers
may have different perspective over girls education which makes our study
more interesting about women education. But the idea still needs more
reasoning and explanation. We have to find the situation, main reasons
behind it and the possible situation towards it?
Laborers working at a
house.
Group A interacting with
villagers.
Group B interacting with
villagers.
For fair results in a project report it means deep and wide research. While
surveying a village we came across different people with different perspective
about the things around them. To go deep in the mindset and condition of the
villagers we had to cover as many houses as possible and being a team of ten
members, we divided ourselves into two groups with five members each. We
went door to door and interacted with the villagers.
Our research methodology included politeness in our behavior and a smile
on our faces. Some people were not willing to share their information and we
didn’t force them.
As our focus was the- “Status of Education System”, therefore, our
questions revolved around the same but the environment and the contrast we
discovered in our expectations after investing some houses made us to question
them about many more things including sewage, electricity, water supply,
domestic violence, etc. in the village.
1.How many girls are there in the village?
2.Till which standard have they studied?
3. If some against them don’t go to school, what is the reason?
4.And those who go to school, why don’t they study further?
5. Are they getting family support in getting education or not?
6. Is there any discrimination amongst boy or girl education ,i.e., are they getting equal educational opportunity as boys?
7. In case, there is a girl who is well educated and is further studying,
what led her rise up and how did she fight for her right to
education?
8. What did girls grab from whatever they were taught at school?
9. Do they study upto 5th standard for a formality of studying and
going to school?
10. If they get married at a young age, do her in-laws let her study
further and complete her studies?
Finally, we will motivate them to take their stand and raise their
voices for their rights!
We observed many things during our
survey. Some of them are as follows:
1. While conducting a survey , we
witnessed women working with
the man of their family for
construction of house in the
village.
2. Even after living in the village
next to Haryana border , one of the
villager enlightened us with his positive attitude to have a daughter instead of a boy.
3. While conducting the survey , one of our friend went at the
doorstep of a woman who was considered mad by the other
villagers. Though, she faced ‘mirgi’ attacks twice in two to three
months, she was openly talking to her regarding all the problems
she was facing in the village.
4. Some of the families didn’t allow their daughter in law to study
further which was very disheartening to witness in a village where
almost everyone was given equal opportunities and chances to
achieve their dreams irrespective of their gender.
5. Though having their houses
nearby, the two real sisters live
on the borders of two different
states of India and were working
together on same field.
6. Still today domestic violence
persisted in the village which was
faced by women of above 40
years of age.
7. While conducting the survey, we found that most of the men
were working for DTC.
8. A very aged man was having ‘Hukkah’ .when we approached him in order to ask him
questions regarding our survey. According to
us, the way he touched was not appropriate.
9. We met a pregnant lady who was
about 23 years old and already had a 1
year old child. Her mother-in-law standing behind her back
was staring at her for interacting with us. She wanted to study but lost her
interest in studies after marriage or may be she was not allowed to study
further. The shocking thing was that she was pregnant within 13 months of her
delivery and she was too weak to stand firmly.
10. A lady married at an early age , who had to give up her dream
to do job for the sake of her family and her children, said
enthusiastically, “I had lived for my husband, family, and children
until now. But once in life, I will live for myself by doing a job, be it
for 6 months only, but once, I will.”
11. In the village, people do not visit shops
for the needs like flour , instead they eat pure
flour of the wheat grown in their own fields
grinded from the machine in their own
houses.

We had many expectations while going to the village. Such as- what kind of
people the villagers would be, will the talk to us and many more such
questions were revolving in our mind. As our topic was related to education,
we had the following expectations with which we went to interact with the
villagers.
1. We were thinking that it would be difficult for us to convince
the people to talk and to share their views with us. Being a resident
of city we had a mindset that people in cities simply ignore the
surveyors by saying that the are busy, come later. They don’t prefer
to talk to the surveyors. In Contrast:- In villages, people were
keenly interested in talking with us and expected us to ask more
and more questions so that they can express their views and freely
share their problems with us.
2. According to us, women would be uncomfortable to share their
views regarding sanitation with us. In Contrast:- Women in the
village were frankly talking to us about sanitation. Even if they had
any medical problem regarding menstruation they asked us to help
them to get proper treatment in hospitals regarding the same.
3. While going to the village we expected that 75% of the
villagers would be uneducated. In contrast:- While conducting the
survey we found that 80% of the people were educated. Some were
even pursuing higher education and they were doing courses in
animation, medicine, etc.
4. On listening the term village, instantly our mind created the
image of a typical village especially consisting of “kaccha” houses.
In contrast:-While conducting the survey, we were surprised to see
the well-constructed “ftakka” houses.
5. We never thought that the people and children would be future-
oriented and know the exact path of life, they want to take;
whether it is being part of NDA or an engineer. In contrast:- The
people of the village had a broad mentality. They all had plans for
their future from becoming an air hostess, a CEO, a teacher etc.
and were well aware of what they would further pursue in their
life.
Awareness about education
among villagers.
Some of the teams surveying the villages surveyed both “Kair” and “Mitrao”
villages. Being among the fortunate's to visit both the villages, we noticed some
differences in the villages and the way people live there. Though both the
villages are not so far from each other yet the differences in their developmental
status increases the gap between them.
Being situated on the main road, ‘Mitrao’ was much more developed than
‘Kair’. The houses in Mitrao were well constructed and well equipped in
comparison to the houses in Kair village. Cleanliness in both the villages is done
by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi(MCD’s) but self consciousness about
the environment and cleanliness among the villagers in Mitrao gives Mitrao an
upper hand in cleanliness. The well constructed houses and the number of
public places like temples in Mitrao tell us that people in Mitrao are rich and
well-settled. According to our survey, in Kair, people don’t communicate and
interact much with each other while the scenario in Mitrao was different. We
heard nothing about castism, domestic violence and dowry demands in Mitrao.
In contrast with Kair, availability of internet and technology is better in
Mitrao. Women are secure and police arrangements are good in both villages. In
Kair, there is only one bank while in Mitrao there are two banks- Canara bank
and Central Bank of India and people are more aware about the working of
banks.
In Kair, drinking water is provided to the villages once in a week through the
water tank and had to adjust with it. While in Mitrao, drinking water(soft
water) and hard water is supplied on the alternate days and throughout the
week in half the village and the other half village on hill side faces water
scarcity. Kair is not much cooperative and has alcohol shops at its borders while
there are no alcohol shops in Mitrao. Women work for living. Mitrao lacks of
bus depot which is available in Kair.
Apart from these small differences, a major difference which shocked us was the
existence of gangs and gangsters in Mitrao. Riots on property and other stuff
are common in Mitrao which makes safety of women and children questionable.
ftarents don’t let children to play outside their houses due to safety reasons in
Mitrao while the scenario is quite peaceful and better in Kair.
In the end, we would like to say that this given opportunity will most certainly become the most memorable. It not
only allowed us to face the reality of the world, but was rather our first step in the direction of giving our service
on larger scale, than we are generally able to. When we took part in surveys, there were many layers to the
answers given by villagers which deepened our knowledge and approach towards the research. It made us
evaluate their lives through different perspective. Of course, watching them go through hardships, made us
realize how fortunate we are, but more importantly it gave us a strong will to work harder for the less
unfortunates. The key was not to feel sorry, but to connect and understand their problem as much as we could. If
possible, become one of them for a while.
1). Villagers should be taught that besides depending on
MCD for the cleanliness, they too should do some efforts to
keep their environment clean.
2). Value education should be started in schools to
morally educated the children about behavior and
etiquettes.
3).Villagers should be taught not to ask for dowry.
4). Family planning should be taught and villagers should
know more about diseases like HIV-AIDS, Cancer etc.
5). Education of girls should not be stopped because of
marriage rather it should be promoted.
6). Each boy and girl in the village should be given a chance
to reach on the top of the sky.
7). Women should be aware of the laws against domestic
violence so that they can save themselves from the
injustice they are facing.
