• German communists revolted in January 1919

• Spartacists were a group within the Communist party of Germany

• They were easily defeated by the government

Dawes Plan

• US attempt to help Germany pay war reparations from Treaty of Versailles

• US gave money to Germany who gave it to France and Britain who paid the US with it for war payments

Paul Von Hindenberg

• German president before Hitler took power

• Did not want Hitler to become chancellor but was persuaded to (big mistake)

• Would let Hitler take emergency power after the Reichstag was burned down

Locarno Pact

• Sought to secure territorial settlement after WWI in Europe

• Germany got into League of Nations

• Countries hoped this would bring international peace

Young Plan

• Aimed to help Germany with war reparations

• Put into effect after Germany could not keep up with Dawes Plan

• Reduced payments and gave Germany more years to pay war reparations

Ramsay Mcdonald

• Served two separate terms as British Prime Minister

• First British Labor Prime Minister

• Formed a National Government with a majority of conservatives

• Coalition of political parties in Britain under Ramsay McDonald

• Caused the Labor party to go against the government because they lost prominent leaders

Croix de Feu

• A French far right league of the Interwar period (fascist)

• Wanted military effort against Germany

• Opposed Socialism
