    The Borgian

In God We Trust marks the currency of our nation. It shouldmark our lives as well. In fact, however, we hesitate to trust others, including God, absolutely. We prefer to hold our trust in reserve, fear-

ful of being hurt or betrayed. Todays readings remind us that Lent is aseason of trusta trust that transforms.God makes a remarkable promise to Abraham. To receive this

promise, all Abraham need do is trust. Paul tells the Philippians thatthey too must trust that they are the beneficiaries of Gods bountifulgrace; that they are not citizens of any earthly kingdom, but citizens ofheaven. These two readings invite us to hear the Gospel account ofdeep trusttrust that God will fulfill all promises and that Jesus pas-sage will lead to transformation and new life.

Respect LifeAnyone who makes the Lenten journey is called

to be more alert to the attacks on human life and dignityaround them. The people of life are called to reject sinand all the devil's works and empty promises (Renewal ofBaptismal Promises, Easter Liturgy). The "pro-choice"and "right to die" mentalities are two of those "emptypromises" which are firmly rejected by the baptized. Afirm rejection of these positions is integral to repentance.Lent is the perfect time for us to call our congregations toa clearer understanding of why this is true, and to leadthem to a deeper affirmation of life, both natural andeternal, in the celebration of the Paschal Mystery.

From the Pastors Desk...Todays readings are a call to transform our hearts and our lives. In the first reading we see Abram, whose name

was transferred to Abraham, who became the father of all believers. God promised him that his descendents would be asbountiful as the stars in the sky. The covenant between Abraham and God became real.

The second reading reminds us that our citizenship is in heaven and from it we also await the Savior, JesusChrist, who will change our lowly body to conform with His glorified body. This is the beauty and power of our faiththat can change our earthly life into the eternal one.

In todays Gospel, the transfigured Jesus is calling us to change our lives. His transfiguration amazed Hisapostles and they wanted to stay with Jesus forever. God, who showed us Jesus on the mountain of the transfiguration isshowing us the way to be united with Him with the following words: This is my chosen Son; listen to him. During theseason of Lent let us reflect on these words and open our hearts to every Word of God.

Our faith in Jesus is the only way and guarantee of our transfiguration and spiritual growth. May the season ofLent through prayer, fasting and almsgiving deepen our faith and love to God and our neighbor.

I invite and encourage all of you to reflect on the Passion of the Christ during every Stations of the Cross whichare held in English every Lenten Friday at 6:30 PM in the chapel.

We want to thank you again for your generous commitment to the Catholic Annual Appeal. If we all fulfill ourpledges, then we will reach our goal. If you want to be part of our success you can still fill out one of the pledges that arein the back of the church.

We thank you also for your generous offerings last weekend as we finally reached our weekly budget goal. To

be honest with you, I dont mind seeing that magic number 10 at the beginning of our weekly collection every weekend. We want to invite you to participate in our Lenten retreat that will be lead by Fr. Joe Mol who is helping us on

Faith can be FunnyAdam was walking around the garden

of Eden feeling very lonely, so God asked him,

    "What is wrong with you?"

Adam said he didn't have anyone to talk to.

God said that He was going to make Adam a

companion and that it would be a woman. He said, "This person will gather food for you,

cook for you, and when you discover clothing she'll wash

it for you. She will always agree with every decision you

make. She will bear your children and never ask you to

get up in the middle of the night to take care of them. She

will not nag you and will always be the first to admit she

was wrong when you've had a disagreement. She will

never have a headache and will freely give you love and

    passion whenever you need it.

Adam asked God, "What will a woman like this

    cost?"

God replied, "An arm and a leg."

Then Adam asked, "What can I get for a rib?"

    The rest is history ...
