5.1 Axial Flow Fans

Products

Novax Axial Flow Fans ACA ACN - ACW - ACD - ACG - ACPThe Novax fans are compact and robust, massproduced adjustable pitch axial flow fans. Novax is suited for a large number of air handling applications for marine installations. Distinguishing features of Novax are space economy, easy installation and high reliability.

ACPFor wall mounting with direct inlet and outlet.

Two types of bladesN.B.

The rotors are available with blades of glass fibre reinforced polyester (GRP) or aluminium. However, rotors with hub diameters = 403 and = 578 mm are only available with blades of aluminium. The two blade types have identical performance characteristics. In the temperature range of -20 C to +40 C the fans are normally equipped with GRP blades which are lighter and more resistant to corrosion. In the temperature range of -20 C to -40 C and +40 C to +70 C both blade types can be used, however, at reduced speeds and with special grease in motors. In the temperature range of 70 C to 100 C solely aluminium blades are used and at reduced speeds.

One Rotor Several Fan Typesblades.

The Novax rotor (the impeller) consists of two assembled hub discs with cavities to house the The rotor is provided with a hub boss for mounting onto a motor shaft. The blades of the rotor can be factory adjusted to any angle between 25 and 70 , dependent on size and speed. The rotor and motor assembly can be mounted in many different fan casing profiles suitable for a variety of applications.

Motors

The motors are asynchronous motors. Types ACN, ACG, ACW and ACP have flanged motors, whereas type ACA and ACD has a foot-mounted motor.

Corrosion ClassificationThe Novax fans are as standard designed for operation in unheated, low-corrosive environments according to the international standard EN ISO 12944-2, class 2 (low).

Adjustment of Blade Angles

The blade pitch may be adjusted to obtain different performances. In that case the motor output should be known and the rotor carefully aligned and balanced before starting. Please contact YORK Novenco before any such adjustment.

Control of Speed by Means of Frequency ConversionThe performance curves on pages 10 13 show the nominal speeds for motors of 50 and 60 Hz and with speed control by frequency conversion with the maximum speeds indicated in the table below. The Novax computer calculation program ensures accurate selection of type and size in view of air quantity, pressure, operating economy and sound. Type Descriptions of ACA-ACDACD ACA

ACA ACD for Installation in Ductingameters from 160 to 578 mm.

The fan casing incl. of motor suspension is hot-dip galvanized. The fan casing is provided with an inspection door. The rotor unit is mounted directly on the motor shaft end. The direction of air flow for ACA is blade motor. The motor is a foot-mounted motor mounted on the outlet side and provided with electric cable extended through the fan casing to a terminal box for electrical connection. Pitch circle diameter of flange, number of holes and hole size as standard according to EUROVENT 1/2 for type ACA and according to DIN 24154 for ACD.

The fan consists of a tubular casing with a bell mouth inlet for direct air intake and an outlet flange for duct connection. The rotor unit is mounted at the inlet with the motor facing the air intake. The direction of air flow for ACG is motor blade. The inlet is provided with a wire guard. On the outlet side of the rotor a downstream guide vane arrangement with a core is mounted ensuring a very high efficiency.

ACG for Duct Connection The series comprises 14 sizes with impeller diameters ranging from 250 to 1600 mm and 7 hub diameters from 160 to 578 mm.

The motor is a flanged motor with electrical connection in the terminal box. Pitch circle diameter of flange, number of holes and hole size as standard according to EUROVENT 1/2.

Capacities Air quantities from 0.1 to 50 m3/s and total pressures up to 1600 Pa. The fan consists of a short tubular casing with a bell mouth inlet for direct air intake and an outlet flange for duct connection. Diffusers By mounting a diffuser on the outlet side of the axial flow fan some of the dynamic loss which is generated when lowering the air velocity is recovered for static pressure, thus ensuring a better fan efficiency. This especially applies to free outlet fans, where the entire velocity energy otherwise would be lost. The diffusers for Novax fans are designed to obtain optimum recovery of the dynamic energy. Installation correctionsThe Novax fan performance data have the normal installation methods of the fans. Correction value a The correction value a (from the computer selection program) is a loss factor, which, after multiplication by pdF, must be added to the calculated fan pressure (psF) at free outlet (arrangements A and C), or at a sudden change to a larger duct dimension than the fan outlet. The 'a' factor is related to the velocity loss (pd) resulting from the difference in the air velocity of the net area of the fan (the blade area) and the gross area of the outlet opening. The effect of the 'a' factor is reduced by mounting a diffuser on the outlet of the fan. See the previous page. For fans with duct connection on the outlet and unchanged dimensions (arrangements B and D) the 'a' factor is included in the published performance data and no correction is necessary. The axial flow fan type HGP is applicable for ventilation of pump rooms and as fan in mechanical ventilating systems in which explosive gases might appear. It is designed according to the rules of the classification societies for Non-sparking fans for hazardous locations on board ships. Type HGP complies with the requirements of the classification societies for fans handling explosive gases. Flame-proof motor mounted outside the air stream Bearing assembly incorporating seals prevents gases from penetrating into the motor. Impeller cast in aluminium alloy rules out the risk of sparking in case of contact with the casing. HGP is available in 9 sizes from 315 mm to 1120 mm. Performance from 0.18 m3/s to 22 m3/s.

The Novax rotor (the impeller) consists of two assembled hub discs with cavities to house the blades at preset angles. The rotor is provided with a hub boss for mounting onto a motor shaft. The cast aluminium blades of the rotor can be factory adjusted to any angle between 25 and 60, dependent on size and speed. The hot dip galvanized fan casing is provided with flanges on the inlet side according to DIN 24154 and with a wire guard of rustless steel type AISI 304 with a mesh size of 13 x 13 mm on the outlet side.

HGP is a sturdy fan with flange on the inlet side especially designed for installation on stand-pipe on deck of a ship.
