This was an original essay that shows a considerable amount of
personal engagement and involvement, even to the extent of
transcribing the solos that are analysed, a creative input that
shows great skill and de-termination. The difficult research
question is sufficiently well focused to be answered convincingly
within the word limit.
The writing is very well organized with some small exceptions
noted and well referenced with a decent bibliography, although the
web references needed more precise dates of access. An excellent
analysis is presented in an essay which is made much harder in this
respect by not having scores available. The evalua-tive and
analytical skills with regard to the constituent elements of the
music are therefore outstanding for a student of this age, and show
a high level of analytical skill and musical initiative.
The conclusion is persuasive and is consistent with the evidence
presented in the essay.
