5 Themes of Geography (MR HELP)

• Movement – the way people, goods, and ideas travel from one place to another.

• Region – group of places united by one or more common characteristics.

• Human/Environment interaction – the relationship between people and the environment and how it influences how they live, as well as how they affect the environment.

5 Themes of Geography (MR HELP)

• Location – where a place is. Absolute – very specific, such as Alabama Street; Relative – approximate, such as near Creekside Baptist Church.

• Place – describes physical characteristics such as landforms, climate, and plant or animal life; human characteristics such as language or way of life.

3 Factors That Affect Where Humans Settle

• Water – bodies of eater such as lakes or streams.

• Topography – surface features such as mountains, deserts, or plains.

• Vegetation – plant life.

Reading Charts and Maps• 1. Read the title.• 2. Look at the

key/legend.• 3. Know what the

symbols are.• 4. Re-read the
