A Completed 5S ProjectA quick look at the difference between a finished 5S project and an area that is organized fairly well.
Cabinets5S Not 5S
In the picture to the left everything has a place and inventory is controlled by space management.
Cabinets Continued5S Not 5S
In the picture to the left, yellow string tape was used to aid in boundary management; ensuring only the supplies necessary for the area are contained in the space. On the left, the controls make it obvious if supplies are improperly placed.
Heavy Equipment5S Not 5S
On the left, tape was used again to identify the designated space for heavy equipment. This space was chosen for safety and point of use. Also note the wall label for the piece of equipment.
Miscellaneous Equipment 5S Not 5S
Again, boundary management and labels for equipment were used to address point of use and safety.
Another Look @ Heavy EquipmentBoundary controls are great for designated pallet locations. Such controls avoid situations such as this one. Because there is not a location explicitly marked for this pallet, the cabinet is not accessible to retrieve supplies.
