#1 General Ledger Distribution

• Wondered why general ledger reports aren’t a standard?

• GL reports are complex and costly

• GL not only needs to be sent from payroll to accounting but also needs to be in a report

• GL are standard to payroll but each organization defines they own layout and reporting format

#2: Overtime

• Standard Overtime reports have “TMI”

• Most standard overtime reports cater to the masses and are not simple

• Most OT reports written for finance. The ideal overtime report should be a thumbnail sketch for an executive, not something in depth

• OT is shown in paycheck registers and earning reports and are buried within the data

• OT incurred should be reported immediately and not when someone runs a report

Page 8: 5 reports ever co needs(1)

Page 9: 5 reports ever co needs(1)

#3: Workers Compensation

• WC auditors sets the criteria for the report format

• Auditors wish to review productive hours and earnings, while others also want to see non-productive as well i.e. vacation, sick hours, bonuses, etc.

• WC reports may be consolidated or broken out by company, department, job, etc.

• May need to run the report by date range or go back in a point in time

#4: Benefit Reports

• Benefit Administrators need more than basic information i.e. Name, SSN, Premiums, Contribution, ER Match, etc.

• Report criteria is specific to the provider, i.e. plan & dependent info, field length, font, file format, layout, sort order, etc.

• Administrators may want to include YTD information as well as current

• The report is not only for internal use and reconciliation purposes, but may also be used for electronic filing

#5: Labor Allocation

• Business depends on flexibility to report different rates, current and YTD hours earnings, taxes and deductions

• Typically not a standard report, usually needs to be customized

• Standard payroll report will spit out labor by earnings, but most companies need more info, including data organized by cost center, department, job or company

• Payroll service providers do their best with standard payroll reports, but labor allocation is hard to pin down… you need a custom report
