INTRODUCTION

P-ISM (“Pen-style Personal Networking Gadget Package”), which is under developing, stage by NEC Corporation. P-ISM is a gadget package including five functions: 1.CPU Pen 2.A communication pen-style cellular phone with a

handwriting data input function. 3.virtual keyboard. 4.A very small projector. 5.A camera scanner.

History The conceptual prototype of the "pen" computer was built in 2003. "PEN-STYLE PERSONAL NETWORKING GADGET" created in 2003 by Japanese technology company NEC.

The designer of the 5 Pen Technology, is ”TORU ICHIHASH”.

The designer says that In developing this concept he asked himself – “What is the future of IT when it is small?” The pen was a logical choice.

He also wanted a product that you could touch and feel. Further, the intent is to allow for an office anywhere.”

CPU penThe functionality of the CPU is done by one of the pen. It is also known as computing engine.

Dual core processor is used, and it works with “WINDOWS” operating system.

The control unit manages and controls the various data from different pens.

MicroprocessorMicroprocessor are CPUs manufactured on a very small Numbers of ICs.

The over all smaller CPU size as a result of being implemented on a single die means faster switching time because of physical factor like decrease gate Parasitic capacitance.

CPU functions The four functions FETCH,DECODE,EXECUTE and

WRITE BACK.The performance and speed of a processor depends upon the clock rate and the instruction per clock.T HE CPU Design uses the clock grating of “IBM Power PC- based Xbox 360”.

COMMUNCIATION PEN

P-ISMs are connected with one another through short- range wireless technology.

They are connected through Tri-wireless modes (Blue

tooth, 802.11B/G, and Cellular) which are made small and kept in a small pen like device.

It also forms a cellular network, all of the pens be connected to internet via cellular phone.

It connects the subscriber to the wider telephone network.

Virtual Keyboard The Virtual Laser Keyboard (VKB) is the ULTIMATE new gadget for PC users.

The VKB emits laser on to the desk where it looks like a keyboard. It uses a laser beam to generate a full-size perfectly operating Keyboard.

The laser projection analyses what input being entered, according to co-ordinate of location.

Digital camera We had digital camera in the shape of pen .It is useful in video recording, video conferencing, simply it is called as web cam. It is also connected with other devices through Blue tooth. It is a 360-Degree Visual Communication Device.Has a built in GPS receiver and can produce Geo tagged photographs.

LED ProjectorThe role of monitor is taken by LED Projector which projects

on the screen. The size of the projector is of A4 SIZE.

It has the approximate resolution capacity of 1024 X 768. Thus it is gives more clarity and good picture.

Corrections live on curves, blurriness and other inconsistencies can be rectified by manual settings

1. CRT projector using cathode ray tube:

It has three tubes Red, blue and green. They require complex picture adjustment in order to get a single image.

2. LCoS projector ( liquid crystal on silicon):

445nm laser diodes are used as a light source. It has a direct-drive image light amplifier.

Usually batteries must be small in size and work for longer time. The type of battery use here is “lithium ion battery.”

It comes with a battery life of 6+ days. For normal use it can be used for 2 weeks. The base stand is act as charging device and also storage area.

Advantages Good is the unit can be positioned or held the way it is defined it works well.Feasible, Ubiquitous .Touch and feel technology.Mobility. DisadvantagesThe gadget is very costly.Can be easily misplaced.

Compromises A flat surface is needed to make it functional.

The communication devices are becoming smaller and compact. This is only an example for the start of this new technology. We can expect

more such developments in the future.
