Burwell Elementary makes “Positive Change” Burwell Elementary made a "Positive Change" to help Sargent Elementary Teacher, Tami Phillipps as she fights a second battle of colon cancer. In one week, Burwell Elementary students donated $1,105.92 worth of change and $98 worth of cash, with a grand total of $1,203.92! At the end of the change war, we asked students to guess the amount of change in all the containers. Traigh Freeman (3rd Grade) guessed $1,000.90 and Kalli Franson (5th Grade) guessed $1,000.49.
Pictured with the donations is a student from each class. Beginning in the front, left to right: Brady Gideon (2nd), Gideon Franson (K), Skylar Olcott (1st), Sully Trausch (4th), Holden Pickney (3rd), Laurel Mann (5th), and Carrie Rocheleau (6th).

By: Michelle Milleson Miss Burwell Rodeo 2020 Macy Zentner and Little Miss Burwell Rodeo 2020 Shaylee Milleson visited elementary classes on March 16th. Macy and Shaylee had fun interacting with all the kids and reminding them this is the 100th Anniversary of Nebraska's Big Rodeo that will take place July 28-31. They talked to the students about rodeo in general as well as explaining what all they get to do as a rodeo queen and why they both wanted to be a rodeo queen. Promoting the sport of rodeo and specifically Nebraska's Big Rodeo is a passion of both Macy and Shaylee. Each class was allowed to ask all kinds of questions for the queens to answer, and Shaylee even read a favorite book of hers to one of the classes. When they left, Shaylee and Macy left signed autograph sheets made out to each individual child. Thank you Burwell Schools for letting us stop by!

Happy Spring!!
The grades 2nd through 6th grade students want to thank Mrs. Lynette Larsen from GLW Children’s Council for her time to be our guest in the Burwell Elementary classes and discuss program called “Too Good for Drugs”.
In Kindergarten we started a safety unit sponsored by Modern Woodman of America. During this safety unit we discussed germs and the proper way to wash our hands, fire safety, how to call 911, water safety, playground safety, and personal space.
The first graders started their books, “My First Book”, donated by generous local businesses. So far we have enjoyed reading together and having good discussions.
The fourth grade will also complete a book, “The Way to Go”, donated by generous local businesses.
The last two months of the school year for the K-6th grade students will be learning and practicing several social skills, including the skill of group work, effective communication, listening vs hearing, and many more.
The 6th grade students will begin their transition into junior high school soon. We will have a questions box, “questions about junior high” for students to anonymously drop a question in the question box. We will spend much of our discussion around the questions they have and the differences between elementary and junior high. Students will also have the opportunity to complete a pre-registration form, visit with current high school students, take a tour, and meet some of their junior high teachers.
I have greatly enjoyed working with your children and I look forward to next school year.
A note from the 1st Grade Class:
Thank you NCTC, Burwell Feeders, Pathway Bank, Pizza Palace, Crossfire, and Jeffres Sand and Gravel Inc., for your generous
donation so we, the first grade class at Burwell Elementary School, could have our very own book. We enjoyed reading
“My Favorite Book”. We read it together during guidance time with Miss Tetschner and had wonderful discussions about the
stories.
