They’re not just for gifts.

Great service, nice gestures, and

special acts of kindness are all worthy

of a thank you note.


Sending a thank you note will set you

apart from the crowd.

Follow our five easy steps to write

the perfect thank you note.


Step 1:

Pick the right note or card.

The Library Friends’ Shop located

Choose from greeting cards…


…to notecards…


…and everything in between.


Step 2.

Practice makes perfect.

Your note should be handwritten, but

consider constructing your message

on a computer or on a separate

sheet of paper first so you get it right.


Step 3.

Mention the gift or gesture.

Specifically reference the gift or

gesture by name. This makes the note

more personal and confirms you

received the gift.


Write a positive sentence or two

about what the gift means to you.

Example: “Thank you so much for the

lavender-scented candle. It’s perfect for

our kitchen. It makes everything smell so

fresh and clean.”


Step 4.

Focus on the person.

Let the person or group know what

they mean to you and how much you

appreciate them thinking of you.


Include something special about the

person or your relationship to add

another personal touch.

Example: “Thank you for making the

trip from Kentucky to attend our party.

You’ve always been a thoughtful friend!”


Step 5.

Keep it simple.

The cards are typically 3x5 inches.

This is enough room for a meaningful

message without having to fill lots of

space. Aim for 3-5 sentences.


Now you’re ready to send your card!

Handwrite the address on the

envelope.

Make sure you have proper postage.

Send your note within a week of

receiving the gift or gesture.

Extra time is given for wedding thank

you notes.
