CelosiaCockscomb• Availability: June-October• Color: orange, red, yellow, pink• Form has feathery plumes. Other colors are

available as annual bedding plants and are often bold. Can be air-dried.

• Medium mass flower: Bold-colored feathery appearance is nice in combination with other summer flowers. Large flower heads add mass.

• Longevity: days 5-7 or longer• Excellent for containers

Building Containers

• Use potting mix- not dirt from home or garden

• Add water-holding crystals to keep from drying out so soon

• Plan to water daily or every other day

• Afternoon shade will help decrease watering need

Smart Containers

• Container must have drainage• Use a light weight filler at the

bottom• Fill ½ way with potting mix• Add water holding crystals• Fill remainder with potting mix• Fill to 1-2 in from the top• Add mulch to retain water

• Use tall plant to set height– About the same height as the container

• Anchor with a bold plant

• Use fillers with complementing colors

• Use a trailing plant to soften the edges of the pot

• Elevate containers so that flowers are at eye level.

• Go big rather than small when choosing containers.
