Strong facilitators are critical to the success of the program, which aims to offer at least one service project every day of the week that addresses a wide range of community needs. Responsibilities include transporting FSU students in center vans, so interested students must have a valid driver license, current auto insurance and a good driv- ing history. Other responsibilities include recruiting, informing, educating, supervising and encouraging the students on the outreach project, helping them learn more about the needs of the community, discov- ering what they are passionate about, and inspiring them to continue volunteering. Facilitator applications are available at http://thecenter.fsu.edu/COP or at the Center for Leadership & Social Change, located in the first floor of the Dunlap Success Center. PEER LEADERSHIP COURSE The Peer Leadership course is designed to equip emerging student leaders with the skills and resourc- es needed to build student organizations that are successful, sustainable and impactful at Florida State University. This three-credit hour course will be held on Tues- days and Thursdays from 12:30-1:45 p.m. and will cover a range of topics including personal leadership development, peer mentorship, effective communica- tion, group dynamics and diversity, and collaboration and campus resources. This course can count toward the Undergraduate Certificate in Leadership Studues, but students must apply and be accepted to take part in the class. Out For Undergrad is a nationwide network of volunteers with a mission to help high-achieving LGBTQ undergradu-ates reach their full potential.Each year, the organization selects a diverse class of top-performing LGBTQ students from around the country to attend its industry-focused conferences: weekend-long summits where LGBTQ professionals educate students about job opportunities in highly competitive industries — and inspire them to pursue challenging, ambitious careers.The organiztion hosts conferences on business, technolo-gy, engineering, and has recently added marketing. The goal of O4U Marketing, whose conference will be hosted at Pepsico’s Chicago offices in September, is to bring business, marketing, communications, liberal arts, and design students together with LGBTQ professionals from top marketing, digital, retail, and consumer product companies. Students will truly learn what life is like in the fields of advertising, product management, analytics, media, and branding. All admitted students receive full travel and lodging scholarship.Students can apply to attend one of the conferences by May 22 at outforundergrad.org. May is Older Americans Month. It is a time to celebrate our nation’s aging population, or older Americans. This year’s theme is “Blaze a Trail,” and the Area Agency on Aging for North Florida, Inc. wants to highlight the contributions and impacts that our country’s older Americans have had on others with a selfie photo project throughout May. Please take a selfie of yourself and an older adult, then post it on social media and tag AAANF (Instagram: AAAN-orthFlorida; Twitter: AAANorthFlorida; or Facebook: Area Agency on Aging for North Florida, Inc.). Use the hashtag #OAMTrailBlazer, and share a sentence or two about what that older adult in your photo means to you.To learn more about Older Americans Month or download a logo to use in your selfie visit http://oam.acl.gov. On May 21, run to convert the Park’s 1937 vintage boats to solar or electricity and other needed park upgrades. As a special treat, this run is through the “Sanctuary,” a wil-derness area of the state park not open to the public. There will be no gate fee for runners that day. Bring a picnic or enjoy an elegant

lunch in the lodge and spend the day. Race day registration and pre-registration packet pickup begins at 7 a.m., with a 1-mile fun run and the 5 k races to begin at 8 a.m. and 8:30 a.m., respectively. VolUnteer With eMancipation dayThe Knott House Mu-seum and the John G. Riley Center host this annual celebration of the Emancipation Proclamation on Fri-day, May 20. Reenactors, perform-ers, and local dignitaries gather with the community to celebrate this historic event. Volunteers are needed from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Volunteers will help with set up and break down; distributing programs, serving refreshments and lunch, helping with Knott House tours, orienting visitors to the park, and helping with school groups. SUMMer inStitUte oF conFlict reconcil-iation & nonViolence

Selma, Alabama-based nonprofit Something New will host it’s annual Summer Institute of Conflict Reconciliation & Nonviolence from July 18 to July 22. The weeklong training program, part of the organization’s New Way program, finds an appropriate setting in historic Selma, where the principles on nonviolence were proven tried and true during the Voting Rights Movement of 1965. Participants will leave with an understanding of the principles behind the Civil Rights Movement and also how these timeless concepts are still applicable and desperately needed today.The goal of the program is to teach people to effectively and peacefully handle conflict. Build-ing on the principles of Gandhi, Nelson Mandela and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the nonviolence method of conflict reconciliation can be power-fully applied to any setting, any issue, any rela-tionship.
