NEED TO KNOW
ACTIVITY 1 | 15 minutes
ACTIVITY 2 | 10 minutes
ACTIVITY 3 | 15+ minutes
Lead kids through some Bible passages and discussion questions, give them SERVE CARDS, and let kids do activity sheets until pickup.
Lead kids through “SHOE SCRUB-A-THON.” Then watch the second video.
Welcome kids to their group, review expectations, get to know kids, and PLAY, “GUESS WHOSE SHOES?” Then, watch the first video. Today’s lesson is about Jesus washing feet and how Jesus came to SERVE.
● Welcome kids into your room and connect with them while playing games! ● Split kids into small groups of 10 or less. Encourage kids to do all the lesson activities within
their small groups.● All videos will be played on a Youtube playlist that can be watched on a projector screen, TV,
computer, etc. Find the Youtube playlist here: KC Site Lesson Playlist (4th/5th)● For a few weeks, we’re talking about Serving and referring back to Matthew 20:25-28:
“Jesus called them together and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave— just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
As kids arrive, spend time getting to know them, then start the activity 10 minutes into the hour:
● Ask kids their name, and what the best or worst part of their week was.
GAME: GUESS WHOSE SHOES?Kids will play a game to help them learn new things about one another (and maybe stink up the room in the process, who knows?)
● Have kids take off their shoes, tie or buckle them together (if possible), and put all shoes in the large bin (or bag). Tell them they will get their shoes back in just a few minutes.
● Have kids sit in one large circle (or split into two circles if you have a very large group). Choose a kid to start with. Everyone should get a turn.
● Tell them you will pick a pair of shoes at random. Say something you notice about each pair of shoes and what it suggests about the owner:
“These look like cleats, so maybe this person just came from a game.”“These are flip flops, so probably this person isn’t wearing socks.”
● Let the kid look at the shoes as closely as they want to. They will have 3 guesses to find out whose shoes they are. When the owner is revealed, the owner gets to have their shoes back.
● Repeat until everyone has had a turn and gotten their shoes back -- or until the smell becomes unbearable.
Discussion Questions:● What can we find out about a person from looking at their shoes?● In general, are feet seen as clean or dirty?
Use that to introduce the video and big idea: Jesus came to SERVE.
VIDEO | 10 minutes
ACTIVITY | 15 minutes
Play the following video in the Youtube playlist. Keep kids in their group (whether at a table, on the floor, etc) while they watch the video.
● Kids’ Club 4th/5th (Part 1)
● 1 large bin or large trash bag per room. (Use two if you have more than 30 kids in the room)
ACTIVITY 1 ACTIVITY 2 ACTIVITY 3
SUPPLIES
Start the 10-minute Countdown Timer on the youtube playlist.
ACTIVITY: SHOE SCRUB-A-THONKids will do an activity which reflects the challenge of Jesus washing feet. With your co-volunteers’ consent, you can even try to model this activity for the group.
● Be sure your SPRAY BOTTLES are filled with water before you start the activity.● This activity is best done in groups of 2.● Give each pair of kids a SPRAY BOTTLE OF WATER, PAPER TOWELS, and some BABY
WIPES.● One kid will sit in a chair while the other uses the cleaning supplies to wash the other person’s
shoes. (If kids have sandals, they can take their shoes off again and let the cleaner hold them.)○ Pro Tip: It’s OK if there’s a lot of giggling and hesitating! This means kids are experiencing
something new, challenging, and potentially memorable. You can use this as a chance to talk through how it feels to serve and be served.
● Then, have kids switch roles!
Discussion Questions:● Which did you prefer: to wash your partner’s shoes, or have your partner wash yours? Why do you
think you felt this way?● How do you think the disciples felt when Jesus washed their feet?● How can we serve others besides washing people’s feet?
ACTIVITY | 10 minutes
● Spray bottles of water (1 for every 2 kids)● Paper towels● Packages of baby wipes (1 pack per group)
VIDEO | 5-10 minutes
Play the next video in the Youtube playlist. Keep kids in their group (whether at a table, on the floor, etc) while they watch the video.
● Kids’ Club 4th/5th (Part 2)
ACTIVITY 1 ACTIVITY 2 ACTIVITY 3
ACTIVITY: Serve CardsGive each kid a SERVE CHALLENGE CARD. Talk about the many ways people can serve in their families, schools, groups, and communities. Encourage kids to complete their challenge this week!
Kids can talk about other ways of serving which might be right for them and/or their family.● Pro Tip: Keep these discussions open-ended. It’s not our job to TELL others how to serve --
especially kids! We can ask questions and allow God to prompt people in His time, in His way. And if kids think of ways to serve their friends, family, school, etc., awesome!

ACTIVITY | 10+ minutes
● Bible - 1 per group
VIDEO/EXTRA TIME
Play the next video in the Youtube playlist. Keep kids in their group (whether at a table, on the floor, etc) while they watch the video.● VIDEO: For the Heroes (Kid President)● SONG: “iFly Champions” by Kids’ Club● VIDEO: 20 Things We Should Say More Often (Kid President)
Let kids work on activity sheets until parent pickup.
Lead kids through the following questions and see where the discussion goes.● SAY: Much of what we know about Jesus comes from the four “gospels,” or the books of the
Bible about Jesus. They are Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, and they all include stories about what we now call The Last Supper.
○ Open up the Bible and show kids how and where to find the Gospels. ○ Use the Table of Contents, find the New Testament, and point out chapter numbers and
titles (if any).● Have one kid read John 13:1-7. ● Have another kid read either Matthew 20:17-39, Mark 10:45, or Luke 22:24-27.
Then, ask the following questions.● Serving others was important to Jesus. Why do you think Jesus came to serve others, when he
could have made others serve Him? ● What if WE acted like Jesus and served those around us?● Can anyone think of one way they can serve someone they know?
