Ushers and Volunteers
Needed for Christmas Masses
As you know, the church can become quite full
at the Christmas Masses, particularly at our 4:00
p.m. Christmas Eve celebration. We are looking
for volunteers to help our Ushers with the Offering
collection and “directing traffic” for
Communion. If you are interested, please sign up
for one (or more!) of the Masses on the sign-up
sheets located in the Ushers Room near the East
Avenue entrance. To our current Ushers, please
make sure you also sign up to let us know which
Mass you will be attending. Many thanks in
advance!
“Reserving Seats”
at Christmas Mass
I am told that it has been our experience that a
number of people show up early for Christmas
Mass and "reserve" up to entire pews with coats,
scarves, etc. for other family members who plan to
attend. While we understand that family members
want to sit together on this special occasion and
not everyone can arrive early or at the same time,
we also always have some elderly parishioners,
women with small children, etc. who end up
standing in the back of the church. The policy that
has evolved over the years is that no one may
continue to reserve seats after 10 minutes before
the start of Mass. Someone who is in church early
and would like to sit down should not be prevented
from doing so because of empty “reserved” spaces.
I think this makes a lot of sense and want to ask
that people abide by it,
understanding that
ushers are trying to seat
as many people in need
as possible.
Fr. Hurlbert

Pope Francis’
Prayer for the
Jubilee Year of Mercy
Lord Jesus Christ, you have taught us to be
merciful like the heavenly Father, and have told us that
whoever sees you sees Him. Show us your face and we will be saved.
Your loving gaze freed Zacchaeus and Matthew
from being enslaved by money; the adulteress and Magdalene from seeking happiness
only in created things; made Peter weep after his betrayal,
and assured Paradise to the repentant thief. Let us hear, as if addressed to each one of us,
the words that you spoke to the Samaritan woman:
“If you knew the gift of God!” You are the visible face of the invisible Father, of the God who manifests his power above all
by forgiveness and mercy: let the Church be your visible face in the world,
