Mission Statement 1. In a more advanced curriculum, students will master essential skills and

Francophone Project 1. Choose a region of France or a Francophone country to study

thoroughly. Choose wisely, since you will be doing an in depth study of this country. You have until the end of September to choose a country or region.

2. By the end of October, submit a multi-colored map of your region or country. All names and places must be in French.

3. By the end of November, you must hand in to me a complete geographical description of the topography of the region or country (mountains, rivers, natural resources, forests, lakes, etc.) and how these areas are utilized or why they are important.

4. By the end of December, you must have a complete economic analysis of the country or region. Agriculture or manufacturing indicators and products or any other economic indicators that are important to the region or the country (average income, imports, exports, etc.).

5. By the end of January, present a paper on the major cities of the region or country. Why are they famous, what can one expect to see, what is the population? Etc.

6. By the end of February, you must hand in important places to visit as a tourist. Explain its’ historical importance or any other aspect that makes this or these places an interest to tourists. Try to find at least 3 places.

7. By the end of the first week in March, find and make a copy of the

flag in color of your region or country. Mount the flag on an 8 by 11 piece of paper.

8. By the end of April, provide me with an explanation of the flag (its’ history, what do the colors represent, etc.) and if applicable a copy of the National Anthem.

9. By the end of May, present the biographies of at least two famous people of the country or region.

10. By the first week of June, make a recipe of a culinary delight from your country or region. A. Make enough to share with the class. B. Present to the class how you went about making this item.

If a student wants an A or A+, the entire project must be in French. If a student chooses to do half in French and half in English the grade will be B, B+ or A-. If a student completes the entire project in English the grade will be C or C+. *****ALL OF THESE MONTHLY PROJECTS ARE KEPT IN A FOLDER THAT YOU WILL DECORATE. THE FINAL PORTFOLIO COUNTS AS 20% OF THE FINAL GRADE. ***THE ABOVE PROJECT WILL BE AMENDED TO ACCOMODATE 4H SPANISH***

Evaluation/Assessments

Students will be assessed throughout the year in the four language skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing. These skills will be evaluated by various methods such as: *oral presentation *tests and quizzes *journal entries (oral & written) *projects *cooperative learning activities *essays *analysis of reading passages (oral & written)

Integration with Technology Technology is an integral component of the curriculum which will provide students with access to internet exploration. Some activities

may include: *searching websites for journal/newspaper articles *identifying key areas within assigned topics *utilizing the internet for assistance in completion of year long research project
