What do you think of when you hear the word,Iceberg? Force-Power-Strength beyond comparison! That’s right, one might think of an iceberg in thatmanner, after all, one did sink the mighty Titanic! But when 4B uses the term Iceberg Edgetm, we arereferring to the front lip design of our “original

wingless” style Big J Super Series polymer elevator bucket. Now, youask, why would this term be used to describe the leading edge ofour elevator buckets?

When 4B set out to design this bucket, it was decided that wehad to build upon the success of the CC style, but improve it for opti-mum performance. The front lip of other manufacturers CC stylepolymer buckets, through normal wear would all but disappear anddistort due to thinner wall construction. The Iceberg Edgetm was sci-entifically designed by 4B to combine the thickest polymer elevatorbucket walls in the industry with a less potentially damage causing, streamlined leading edge. This front lip is molded much thicker thanthat of our competition, which provides greater life and significantlyenhances the strength of the bucket at that point, to maintain a con-sistent straight edge for cleaner discharge. As the Iceberg Edgetm nat-urally wears, the front lip graduates into a thicker wall, which pro-vides much longer wear life than that of the CCHD style.

In 1990, 4B designed and molded the very first “wingless” pro-file bucket offered to the industry. It was developed to enhance

the bucket filling efficiencyfor closer spacing and high-er capacity that bucket ele-vators require in today’s market. The widely copied CC style polymerbucket inherited the curved ends, or as we commonly refer to as“wings,” from K.I. Willis. When this style bucket is mounted oncloser spacings, they will “overshadow” one another, reducing fill,as the bucket ends are straight sided.

The 4B original wingless style bucket, with a three-degreeside taper, allows for proper filling, even when mounted on closespacing, therefore maintaining or exceeding the elevators ratedcapacity. Our compound curved bottom replaces the archaic“brakes” found in the old CC style bucket, which is a much betterimprovement to deliver extra capacity and smoother dischargewith reduced back legging. 4B bucket systems are extensivelytested for performance and wear, as are our closest competitors,at our own in house R & D center. The 4B buckets are backed bythe extensive experience and design capabilities of our engineer-ing staff, which in fact are second to none.

So remember; don’t let your bucket elevator “sink” with buck-ets that do not perform! Select the bucket with the Ice-BergEdgetm and the original wingless profile. You will avoidthe “distress signal!” - S.O.S!

Question: Weare absolutelydelighted withthe “Whirligig”combined tar-get / bracket /guard. It makessensor installa-tion so muchsimpler. In theshop we have

the pulley shaft tapped for the1/2” NC thread and simply screwthe Whirligig onto the shaft. However, we do have to installmany Whirligigs on site wherethe shaft has not been pre-drilledand tapped. Due to site condi-tions this can sometimes be a dif-ficult and time consuming job tocomplete. Is there a better way ofdoing this?

Answer: I understand your prob-lem. From first hand experience Iknow how difficult it can be todrill and tap the 1/2” thread on

site. I also know how we all liketo be exactly on the shaft centerso that our Whirligigs don’t wob-ble. Because of these experiencesand customers comments likeyours we have produced a sim-ple accessory. The Mag-Con2000, is a simple but effectivemagnetic coupler that screwsonto the Whirligig and then mag-netically connects to themachine’s shaft providing over100 pounds of pulling force tohold the whirligig in place. Nomore site drilling or tapping isrequired. Installation is as quick assaying, “Wow, Whirligig workswonders Wanda”. Centering is alsosimple as the Whirligig can bemoved until it is exactly centeredand there’s no more wobble.
