WE PRAY FOR VOCATIONS
Lord of Harvest, we petition you as you have instructed us to ask for more laborers to serve in the vineyard of Your Church. You have told us that the
harvest is rich and laborers are few and we experience this great need in the face of the challenge of the New Evangelization. We ask the Holy Spirit to inspire young men to seriously consider vocations to the priesthood. Help all of us to be effective instruments to encourage and support those whom you are calling to serve and lead in the Church in the future. Lord, you told your Apostles to put out into the deep. We ask for the grace and courage to accept your call as we pray and work for an increase in vocations to the priesthood. We ask this in the Name of Jesus Christ, the Great High Priest, Amen.

Breaking Open The Word November 10, 2019
Thirty-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time
First Reading: 2 Maccabees 7:1-2, 9-14 A king tortured a Jewish family and tried to make them violate the laws. They all refused to give in and violate the laws. All of the family members told the king they would rather die at his hands than surrender their hope of being resurrected by God. Second Reading: 2 Thessalonians 2:16-3:5 Paul prays that the Thessalonians will be strengthened by God. He also asks them to pray that God’s Word will continue to spread, despite the persecution of Christians that was occurring at that time. Gospel: Luke 19:1-10 Jesus encountered some Sadducees who did not believe in resurrection. Jesus refuted them by quoting Moses, who called the Lord the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Jesus then said, “God is not the God of the dead but of the living. All are alive for him.” Consider and Reflect “May the Lord Jesus Christ himself and God his Father who has loved us and given us everlasting encouragement and good hope through His grace, encourage your hearts and strengthen them in every good deed and word. Finally, brothers and sisters pray for us, so that the Word of the Lord may speed forward and be glorified, as it did among you, and that we may be delivered from perverse and wicked people, for not all have faith.” ‘Encouragement’ is the key word in the teaching of St. Paul. Our pilgrimage, our journey has been undertaken, not alone, but with others who walk with us. As one might slip or fall, we are there to help them regain their footing. As others succeed we rejoice in their good fortune. That is what Christians do. We support and strengthen each other. Paul asks for prayer, the foundation stone we all can use to build the body of Christ. Even when we see shortcomings or failure in our church, it is Christ who loves us, offering hope. We can listen to Paul and be the source of encouragement, or criticize and do nothing to resolve the many issues which confront us. Criticism can correct, but also can destroy.

contributions to our recent “Baby Shower”. We collected over $1,000.00 in cash and a variety of much needed products and clothes for babies.
Birthright in Barnegat and Open Door in Toms River were very grateful and ecstatic for all we gave them and couldn’t thank us enough. A special thank you to all the hard work and efforts given by the Respect Life Committee and Father John. A great job was done by all!
Our next Respect Life Meeting will be held on Thursday, November 22nd at 1:30 PM in the Faith Formation Center. We welcome new members to our ministry.
HEALTH “TIP” OF THE MONTH
Home Safety
Every 4 seconds someone in the U.S. is injured in their home. It only takes a few minutes to protect yourself & your family. Some simple precautions are:
Be Prepared – Have phones in easy reach; have emergency phone numbers near every phone; buy a First Aid kit for your home & your car.
Avoid Fires – Never smoke in bed; turn off appliances when not in use; don’t overload outlets & extension cords.
Careful Cooking – Never wear loose clothing near the stovetop when cooking; never leave cooking unattended; make sure handles on cookware are secure & always turned to the stove center when cooking.
Avoid Falls – Make sure stairs are well lit & have lights at the top & bottom; make sure throw rugs have non-skid backing; install rubber mats or decals in tubs & showers.
REMINDER: Please submit names of men (high school age or older) who you think would make a fine priest by placing your CALLED BY NAME card in the collection basket or drop off the card at the Parish Office. Please continue to pray for the success of this program in our parish and in our diocese, especially during these weeks of prayer for vocations.
Thank You
