Open plan living at its very best!
At the end of the hall, to the left is the open plan living area. Definitely having the wow factor - this space is open and welcoming.
The kitchen is smart and modern and created to impress! It boasts light timber cabinets with contrasting chocolate doors and drawers and has stainless handles, floor to ceiling pantry and a blue Formica bench top. An electric Fisher and Paykel oven, dishwasher and gas Smeg hobbs complete the package.
The kitchen bench extends into a breakfast bar for more casual dining or is a great spot to help with homework while cooking the meal. An extra outward facing cupboard at the end of the breakfast bar is a great spot for those place mats, glasses and other important stuff.
The dining table and chairs sit next to the kitchen which means the cook can be part of the action. Two smart lights hang over the table and provide that certain ambience.
At the other end of the open plan living is the lounge area again with plenty of space for couches and furniture and with a large wall for that essential flat screen television.
Three skylights over the dining and lounge area let in plenty of natural light.
Double doors open off this space to an outdoor living area. A cat door provides easy access for the four legged member of the family.
This flat paved area is a perfect spot for a wine with friends at the end of the busy day! Easy steps up lead to the garden over several levels. Mainly presented as lawn with mature plants there is plenty of space for a trampoline or other outdoor playing gear.
A shed provides storage for those essential garden tools. Fully fenced and great for the kids, with plenty of space for that long planned vegetable garden – the back garden enjoys sun until late in the day.

The suburb of Brooklyn
Brooklyn was established in 1852 by John Fitchett senior as a dairy farm and given the name “Fitchett.” In 1988 Brooklyn adjoined Fitchett and was extended up the Brooklyn hill by Alfred Miles. After Brooklyn Road was cut through the town belt by Central Park, its development increased rapidly. An electric tramway was introduced in 1906.
It is named after a borough in New York City, which in turn is named after the Dutch city Breukelen. A number of streets are names after former US Presidents: Cleveland Street after Grover Cleveland, Coolidge Street after Calvin Coolidge and Washington Street after George Washington to name but a few.
Today Brooklyn has a friendly and vibrant atmosphere with many young families living in it – but also retains its identity as an older suburb with timber villas and varied architecture. It is located just 3km above the CBD on the eastern hills above Happy Valley and offers great views to the city, harbour and airport. It is a very popular suburb due to its proximity to the city and the services and amenities it offers. It even has its own street festival in late November, which epitomises the community spirit in the suburb!
Central ParkBrooklyn is separated from the city by Central Park, named after the park of the same name in New York. The park was established in 1913. There are a set of wrought iron gates as the main entrance that were presented to then Mayor, John Pearce Luke in 1920.
During the war between 1942 and 1944 an American military camp was established in the park. By 1943 the camp could accommodate 540 personnel.
Elliot ParkElliot Park is located at the western side of Brooklyn, adjacent to Mitchell and Karepa Streets. The park has a children’s playground.
Wind TurbineThe Brooklyn Wind Turbine was installed on Pol Hill above Brooklyn in March 1993 as part of a research project into wind power generation by the Electricity Corporation of New Zealand. The site was chosen due to Wellington’s “higher than normal” wind patterns.
The site, 299 meters above sea level, provides spectacular panoramas of the city, Cook Straight and the upper South Island. It is the oldest operating wind turbine in New Zealand.
Hawkins HillHawkins Hill is another of Brooklyn’s peaks and is a landmark due to the prominent radar station used for aircraft flight control and associated communications.
Bike TracksThere are a number of great bike tracks around Brooklyn including the track to Brooklyn windmill and on Hawkins Hill.
Entertainment and RestaurantsBrooklyn is home to Penthouse Cinema, located on Ohiro Road just south of Cleveland Street. It was constructed for the Ranish family in the art deco style, and opened on 15 June 1939 as the Vogue Theatre. The Ranish family ran the theatre until 1951. Today it is a popular and thriving theatre and casual restaurant and bar. There are also a number of popular restaurants in Brooklyn including The Golden Lotus and The Cornerstone as well as several takeaway bars.
LibraryBrooklyn has its own branch library which opened in 1905 in Harrison Street. Its entrance is now in Cleveland Street. The original building is now the Brooklyn Playcentre.
Renouf Tennis CentreThe Renouf Centre is located on Brooklyn Road and is home to a number regular international events including Davis Cup and Fed Cup. The Centre is also available for everyone and anyone to use.
SchoolsThere are two schools within Brooklyn:
Brooklyn School: co-ed, year 1 to year 8.
St Bernard’s School: Co-ed Catholic.
Brooklyn is zoned for Wellington College and Wellington Girls’ College.
