My dear family, Man does not live by bread alone but by every word that comes from the mouth of God. These words were used by Moses to encourage the chosen people on their journey through the desert and Jesus used to reject the tempter. These are the words of eternal life. God our Father created all that exists. By the power of His word, He was made flesh and dwelt among us. That same Christ, offered himself to us as the bread of life and the chalice of salvation. St Paul the Apostle in the short paragraph of the second reading for this Sunday says it all. Those who don't know that the celebration of the Eucharist unites us do not live with Christ.!! Because the loaf of bread is one, we though many, are one body; we all partake of the one loaf. The world today is divided. There are many countries where many people die of hunger, while in other countries they have to diet because they eat too much. There will be no justice until we can understand that the bread of life is to be shared and we know that our master sacrificed His life for us. We have a need to do the same, because the disciple is not greater than his master. We have to share the little that we have with those who have nothing. God bless you, Deacon Jose Olivarez

STEWARDSHIP “Then the King will say to those on His right, 'Come, you who are blessed of My Father - inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited Me in; naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick, and you visited Me; I was in pris-on, and you came to Me.’” Mathew 25:34-36 The question that Christ invites his disciples to answer is: “What will you do with what you have been giv-en?” As stewards of God’s creation, we are accountable for what we do with the gifts we are given. Did we use our gifts to bring ourselves or others closer to God? Did we use them to help others? Did we share them freely and without judgment? And lastly, did we return them to the Lord with increase? We do not want to be like the servant who, afraid of his master, buried the talents with which he had been entrusted. We must seek out ways to use our resources to bring glory to God. “Teach me, Lord Jesus, to be generous: to serve You as You deserve; to give, not counting the cost; to fight, not heeding the wounds; to toil, not asking for rest; to labor, not seeking any reward, save that of knowing that we do Your will. Amen.” Resources & Referrals Paths of HOPE (Help Out of Poverty for Ever) is a Catho-lic Charities volunteer-facilitated program that helps mo-tivated individuals and families get out of poverty forever. They provide a continuum of services to help participants achieve long-term prosperity. MOST HOLY BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST PAGE 4

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION Ordinary Time beckons, and so on this Sunday we surrender the last glimmers of paschal joy as we celebrate the renewal of our life around the table of the Eucharist. This feast reminds us that the goal of the catechumen’s jour-ney through Lent is not the baptismal

font at Easter, but rather the experience of Pentecost. It is all about life lived in the Spirit’s embrace in relationship to the Body of Christ, which is found both “on the table” and “at the table.” The season of confirmation is also drawing to a close, and this feast serves as a reminder that this sacra-ment, a solemn sending from font to table, is keyed to renewed vigor. Confirmation has sometimes been sadly misunderstood as a kind of graduation from religious formation, but it is nothing of the sort. It is about being led by the Lord Jesus to the place where the Spirit flour-ishes, and where the gifts of the Spirit are most easily detectable. After next week we will resume our consider-ation of the sacrament of confirmation, its rich and some-what tangled history, its challenging theology, and its changing celebration. —Rev. James Field, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

AMEN Take a look around the walls of your church. Even if it’s only a year or two old, the word “Amen” has resounded off those walls countless times at the conclusion of the Eucharistic Prayer and as the faithful have come for-ward to receive the Body and Blood of Christ. Today’s feast is about those “Amens” offered in faith, offered in times of trouble or doubt, spoken in joy, spoken mind-lessly, but all given to God in a multitude of ways. It is our very lives that lie behind our “Amens” and are touched by the presence of Christ, the presence we cele-brate today. More importantly, we celebrate the love of Christ for us shown in the sacrifice on Calvary and that he continues to give to us in every celebration of the Eu-charist. What can we do but rejoice in that great love, and then go out into the world and live that love in sacri-ficing for others? Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

—Fray Gilberto Cavazos-Glz, OFM, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
