CEMETERY UPDATE – November is a special month for remembering all of the faithful departed. In addition, today, November 5, is being observed throughout the nation as “Cemetery Sunday.” It’s a good day to once again remember our beloved dead, as well as all of those who minister to grieving families and care for our sacred cemeteries.
If you are not aware of them, St. Francis de Sales Parish is proud to care for two historic properties – Mt. Calvary Cemetery on OH-13 South in Heath, and St. Joseph Cemetery on OH-13 North in Newton Township. St. Joseph Cemetery is our active cemetery, and there we offer traditional ground burials for both caskets and cremated remains, with monument lots or lat marker lots available. We are happy to assist you in preplanning services to make your life easier. During this past year, we have done many improvements to St. Joseph Cemetery, including adding a covered storage area and gravel driveway to the garage, and eliminating much of the brush and low branches (together with planting new grass) in the central tree line. We look forward to continuing beautiication this winter and spring. At Mt. Calvary, we will be doing the same, and also continuing to monitor the security of the property. Because of the time change, during these months when the sun sets earlier, Mt. Calvary will be closed by 4:30 p.m. each day. In the wintertime at both cemeteries, from November 1 to March 1, artiicial decorations such as wreaths are allowed. No artiicial decorations of any kind are allowed from March 1 through November 1. This is the policy of our Diocesan Cemeteries, and we thank you kindly for your attention to this. I will be sending out these periodic “updates” to keep you informed of new developments at our cemeteries. Again, please feel free to contact me with any questions. I am honored to serve in this way.Best regards, Christopher Urbiel,740-345-9874, ext. 224
Pope’s Prayer Intentions for November:Christians in Asia
That Christians in Asia, bearing witness to the Gospel in word and deed, may promote dialogue, peace, and mutual understanding, especially with those of other religions.
FAITH FORMATIONConirmation – Where Am I going? The Four Last Things:We are on a journey through life and every journey has an end. Where are you headed? Are you on a road that will lead you where
you want to go? Together, we will look at how to orient our lives towards Heaven and live lives of sanctity. Classes run from 12:00-2:00 p.m. each Sunday.
Elevate Junior High Youth Ministry – No meeting this week. See you November 12th!
Summit High School Youth Ministry – Martyr Mayhem, November 5th, 6:30-8:30 p.m.: Saints of the Church live lives of heroic virtue; some Saints are great mystics who revealed to us a deep understanding of the Lord. Some Saints founded orders that exist hundreds of years later. Some Saints were called by God to not only live for Him, but to die for him as well. Martyr Mayhem is a (comical) look at the lives of some of these great Saints. Join us for dinner, games, and a live-action look at the Saints who came before us. See Ed Watson for more details.
Eucharistic Bible Study: Join us Sunday mornings between Masses, 9:30-10:30 a.m. (Check Activities This

IMPORTANT MINISTRY SCHEDULES: ATTENTION, EXTRAORDINARY MINISTERS OF COMMUNION – Soon, we will offer both “training” for those who would like to help distribute Communion and “re-training” for those who are already involved. We’re going to introduce some new procedures to help streamline what we do, and so ALL current or prospective EMHCs are requested to attend one of the following training sessions. Your presence is necessary to make sure that all are “in the loop” on the new procedures. Saturday, November 11 – after the 5:00 p.m. Mass (6:15-7:15 p.m. in the church)Sunday, November 12 – after the 8:00 a.m. Mass (9:15-10:15 a.m. in the church)Sunday, November 12 - after the 5:00 p.m. Mass (6:15-7:15 p.m. in the church)
The new EMHC procedures will take effect the weekend of November 25-26, so that we are ready for a new liturgical year.
ATTENTION, LECTORS AND WEEKLY SACRISTANS – We will offer training and retraining for current and prospective Lectors and Weekly Sacristans (not the sacristans who serve at Sunday Masses, but rather those who help prepare the sanctuary and sacristy on Saturdays for the weekend. Additional Sacristans are needed! Please consider joining this ministry.) Again, your presence is requested and the sessions will take place at the following times:Saturday, November 18 – after the 5:00 p.m. Mass (6:15-7:15 p.m. in the church)Sunday, November 19 – after the 8:00 a.m. Mass (9:15-10:15 a.m. in the church)Sunday, November 19 – after the 5:00 p.m. Mass (6:15-7:15 p.m. in the church)These procedures will also take effect the weekend of November 25-26. Thanks to all for your ministry!
VETERANS MASS: On Sunday, November 12, all veterans and active duty will be honored. In preparation, they are being asked to bring a framed photo of themselves in uniform to the Parish Ofice. Please include names on photos. Although the 10:45 a.m. Mass is the Patriotic Mass, Father Dave will bless all veterans and active duty military at all weekend Masses. A reception will be held on Sunday, in Johnson Hall, 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Following the 10:45 a.m. Mass, reception entertainment will be provided by the Crystal City Chorus of the Sweet Adelines.
Child Care Program Survey – We, at St. Francis de Sales Parish, are working on reinstating a child care program during Mass and, during future Faith Formation Programs, to allow families to worship God and grow in their faith together. In order to meet the needs of our families, we are asking parents of irst-graders and younger children to complete a brief survey regarding child care for this purpose. The survey can be found on the Parish website. We appreciate your time and value your input. Thank you and be blessed.
AROUND OUR PARISH
SCHOOL NEWSSPOTLIGHT ON OUR SCHOOL! Our 8th grade students have been busy growing in faith and leadership!
The Conirmation candidates attended a weekend long retreat at Damascus. Their journey continues every Sunday until Conirmation Day, March 20, 2018. The students in this class also attended ROPES, where they encounter physical challenges which aid them in developing trust, strength and communication skills. The program encourages leadership and goal setting. The following day included time spent relecting upon what they learned.
BOOK FAIR!The St. Francis de Sales Scholastic Book Fair will be held in the school library November 2nd to November 10th. The Fair will be open after all Masses on Sunday, November 5th. We invite all parishioners! In addition to
selling new books, we will be collecting books for St. Catherine of Sienna, a school in Texas affected by Hurricane Harvey. Help us replenish their library and classrooms by purchasing a book and donating during the fair. Thank you!

The ROSARY…
and The Fatima Message…Our Blessed Mother appeared at Fatima six times in 1917…on May 13th, June 13th, July 13th, August 19th, September 13th and October 13th. Each time that she appeared to the children, she repeated the same key message: “Say the Rosary every day.” She said that after the Holy Sacriice of the Mass, the Rosary was our most effective weapon in the spiritual battles that we face. A hundred years have passed since the apparitions and in the words of Saint John Paul II, the message of Fatima is more important today than ever before. Our Lady came to Fatima to warn her children that great evils would come upon the world if we did not lead good lives and offer reparation for the sins of mankind by prayer and sacriice. Pray the Rosary every day…pray the family Rosary. At a minimum, have your Rosary with you at all times. Pray part of the Rosary during quiet times or while driving. Hold on to the Cruciix during times of stress. You will feel your tensions ease.
You belong to God and He will always be there to give you strength.Remember, you and your family are always invited to take part in our weekly Rosary for Peace, every Saturday at 4:35 p.m., just before Mass.
