Plan view is a “top down” view

Don’t call it a “floor plan”, since it shows walls and doors, not floors

Plan view is the most important view for architects

Use ⌘-1 for plan view.

Elevation is a side view showing the exterior wall

Use North / South / East / West instead of left, right, front or back.

Elevations show architectural details - like textures - that Plans leave out.

Use ⌘-3, ⌘-4, ⌘-5, ⌘-6 to see Elevations.

A section is an elevation with a part of the building removed.

You can think of it as a “cutaway view”.

“Cross section” means a section that shows the biggest part of the building.

Tools > Section Plane in Sketchup to make Sections

Shows you the idea of the building rather than the details.

Usually includes other objects for scale, such as people or landscapes.
