4. TERAPIAS BASADAS EN TÉCNICAS DE PSICOLOGÍA POSITIVA
La psicología positiva se basa en la premisa fundamental de que tratar la enfermedad mental «no es lo mismo» que promover la salud mental.
Martin Seligman refiere que el sentido básico de lo positivo no es solo la ausencia de lo negativo, se refiere a cosas que valoramos como: la alegría, serenidad, coraje, optimismo, altruismo, paz, perseverancia, creatividad, o el amor; y que estas cosas no vienen automáticamente al luchar contra la tristeza, la ansiedad, el miedo, el egoísmo, el aburrimiento, o el odio; sino que DEBEN CULTIVARSE y NUTRIRSE para que cumplan su función como factores protectores frente a la adversidad.

• Las FORTALEZAS psicológicas o de carácter, son un conjunto de 24 FORTALEZAS identificadas por los investigadores (Peterson &Seligman, 2004), categorizadas en 6 tipos de VIRTUDES:
Character strengths and virtues: a handbook and classification(Peterson & Seligman, 2004)
• Estas FORTALEZAS representan «LO MEJOR DE LA HUMANIDAD» ylos rasgos de carácter que describen al ser humano.
