SHOOTING SPORTS As the cold continues, the longer

days and bright sun shine will eventually take over and that can only mean that Spencer Co shooting sports opening day is right around the corner. This year has already started out to be a fabulous one.

We are very excited to announce that, Quails Forever has once again come on board to continue their sponsorship for our tournament/program.

This year we have added 4 new instructors, 2 for archery and 2 for shotgun. We are ready for another outstanding season and we hope you will come and join us. Whether you are interested in competing, just learning to shoot or anywhere in between we have a program that you will fit into.

Some dates to remember, Feb 25th Membership drive meeting, Mar 4th and 11th are Safety Training days. All classes are at the Extension office and start at 6:30pm. Disciplines for training will be announced prior to the training dates. We will start shooting at the Spencer Co Fish and Game club after safety training classes have been completed. Check out the enclosed Membership Drive flyer.

Food for thought: If you want what other have, you must be willing to do what others do. If you want to be first you must practice like a winner.

We are still looking for new teen council members, so if you are not involved with this leadership council join today!

EMERALD GALA

The Emerald Gala is the Foundation’s

premier fundraising and recognition event. Last year’s event generated over $60,000 to support the Commonwealth’s greatest assets for youth – 4-H Youth Development Programs. Additionally, this event will seek to showcase the outstanding accomplishments of Kentucky 4-H’ers and

celebrate the year’s top 4-H youth honorees – Emerald Award Winners.

The highest honor in Kentucky 4-H’s Achievement Program, the Emerald Award, is presented annually to four 4-H’ers chosen following a rigorous application and interview process. The Achievement Program is open to all 4-H’ers who can apply for Bronze, Silver, Gold and Emerald award levels. Participants at each level are judged based on their accomplishments across five categories: Leadership, Citizenship, Communications/Marketing, Community Service, and Participation. The Emerald Gala will be an opportunity to recognize Kentucky’s most outstanding 4-H’ers and provide another incentive for 4-H’ers who have their eyes set on this prestigious award. Register for the Emerald Gala at www.ky4hfoundation.org/gala

CONGRATULATIONS! ACHIEVEMENT PROGRAM TEACHES YOUTH ABOUT

GOALS 4-H encourages young people to set and achieve their goals. To that end, the Kentucky 4-H Achievement Program was created to reward ambitious and accomplished young people throughout the state. Congratulations to Leighanne Lyvers and Adele Schultz for making it out of District 3 for the Silver Level and winning at the State Level. Both of these young ladies are part of the group of 50 4-H members from across the Bluegrass that are recognized for this achievement. They will be recognized for their achievement at the 2018 4-H Teen Conference this summer in Lexington. If you are interested in learning more about the Achievement Program, please see Mollie.
