Training • Caunton have historically recruited trainees and apprentices
• In 2004 the Caunton Academy was opened to provide a designated area of work for apprentices which enabled us to increase the annual intake of apprentices.
• This decision was made to address the diminishing skills within our industry.
• 28% of total workforce are currently undergoing training & development
• 25% of the board of directors joined the company as apprentices
• Intake five new apprentices per annum – looking to increase this & offer opportunities to external companies/apprentices
• We host school visits at our works to educate youngsters in the construction of our built environment
Working within the local community
• Caunton are currently working with 1 school (Aldercar) towards placements for the Engineer Diploma This activity will be expanded to a further two schools.
• Caunton works with a local school in the delivery of the technical certificate which forms part of the apprenticeship framework
• Work Experience Placements – 12 placements scheduled for 2009
• University Summer Placements
• Graduate Recruitment Programme
• Year in Industry Placements
• Employer engagement with Schools
• Teacher exchange visits
Output • The classroom will enable increased training activities to take
place with more people.
• Equipment in the academy allows the model of a production line to be simulated in a safe environment.
• The grant enables Caunton to consider the business case to increase apprenticeship numbers.
