The Heritage Corridor received one-quarter of the gross impressions delivered by the Best Midwest Travel Chicago TribuneMedia Group campaign. The Heritage Corridor was featured in 25% of all the WGN TV, CLTV, WGN radio, WGN Cubs Network spots which were presented by Bill Kurtis, a nationally recognized spokesperson.

The Ninth Annual Heritage Tractor Adventure (HTA)was held on June 5-9. The Adventure is a five-dayevent with a three-day vintage tractor ride led by MaxArmstrong, renowned agriculture reporter, through thecommunities of the I&M Canal National HeritageCorridor with stops for food, entertainment andcamaraderie.
This year Oglesby was named the host city, whichmeant that every evening the tractors paraded back toOglesby for their evening meal and entertainment.Some of the local community organizations whosponsored a meal during the ride were the DickinsenHouse, the Oglesby Fire Department, the OglesbyAmbulance Service, Holy Name Society, the Elk’s Lodgeas well as the Putnam County Historical Society andMendota FFA.
registration and the closing ceremony/award luncheonwere held at the Illinois Valley Community College inOglesby. They also provided security andtransportation for the entire ride. Other communitiesthat were visited during the ride were Hennepin,Granville, Standard, Ladd, Mendota, Utica, and Grandridge.
Tractor games, sponsored by the Central Illinois GreenClub, were held in downtown Oglesby. Max and OrionSamuelson performed their “Noon at Night” showpreceded by Cal Klockert’s “Tribute to Johnny Cash.”Gary Piattino, antique appraiser, was on hand toevaluate people’s treasures and the Putnam County AgMuseum provided a myriad of treasures of their ownfor onlookers.

In 2010, the terms of John roundtree (MorrisCommunity Hospital), Caroline Portlock (GrundyCounty Chamber of Commerce), Frank Halpin(Grundy County Board), and Mitch Wagner(Starved rock Lodge and Conference Center)expired. The CVB appreciates their years ofservices to the organization including Caroline’smany years in various leadership roles. Theircontributions will be missed. Michelle Seamonand Ed Bailey both accepted positions outsidethe Corridor and subsequently resigned theirBoard positions. We appreciate their many yearsof service to the organization and wish themthe best of luck with their current careers.
In addition, Pat Campione (Bedford ParkVisitor Center) and roger Laatz (Starvedrock Area Visitor Center) have been longtime staffers of these two locations. In2010, Denise Dunbar (MembershipSupport and Service) accepted a full-timeposition outside the Corridor.
