Fast Ryde’s Jody Stevens and James Harrison discuss their most important songs, artists or concerts:1. Bruce Springsteen, Born To Run: What more needs to be said? - Stevens & Harrison2. Shenandoah, Under The Kudzu: This is the first album I ever bought on CD; before that, all my albums were on cassette. My favorite song on there was “Under The
Kudzu,” written by Dennis Linde. I was and am still a huge Linde fan. - Stevens3. Alan Jackson, Here In The Real World: This was the first country album I ever bought, right after “Chasin’ That Neon Rainbow” came out. My family used to listen to it over and over again on the long drive from Florida to Knoxville. - Harrison4. Nirvana, Nevermind: This was the one thing I wanted for my 12th birthday, and Mom hooked me up. I learned every song on that record; it basically taught me guitar, well at least “Power Chord 101.” - HarrisonI remember seeing one of their videos on TV and knowing that music as we know it was changing ... rapidly. Great record. - Stevens5. Keith Urban: I saw him a couple years back at the Sommet Center, and I was absolutely floored. What a rock star. The show made me fall in love with country music all over again. - Harrison• A highly regarded song or album you’ve never heard: Meat Loaf, Bat Out Of Hell. Jody says it’s an incredible record. He keeps telling me if I like Born To Run, then I need to listen to it. - HarrisonThe newest U2 album. I read about it in Rolling Stone; it got a five-star review. I’ve been meaning to check it out. - Stevens• An “important” piece of music/band you just don’t get: Steely Dan - Stevens• An album you played or listened to incessantly: Any Steely Dan album. - Harrison• One obscure or non-country song everyone should listen to right now: Kings Of Leon, “Use Somebody.” - Stevens & Harrison

Winners (continued from page 1) Williams instead set the tone for the evening, describing the personal anecdotes people tell songwriters of their songs as “heart payments” and noting, “What we do is a holy thing.” Later he added, “May your songs live forever and may you live long enough to hear your grandkids fighting over the money.” WSIX/Nashville morning team Gerry House & The House Foundation received their Partners In Music honor from Martina McBride. House’s acceptance led to some comedic sparring with the diminutive Williams. “It’s good to see Paul back in men’s clothing,” House quipped. “He’s the last one to know it’s raining.” Paul shot back, “But the first to drown.” A touching video tribute was played in honor of industry vet and longtime ASCAP Awards producer Danny Petraitis. Love & Theft (“You’re Only Lonely”), Lee Ann Womack (“Faithless Love”) and Rodney Crowell backed by Sarah Buxton (“New Kid In Town”) performed in tribute before Jackson Browne presented the Golden Note honor to JD Souther, who added his own performance of “Best Of My Love.” Alan Jackson received the Songwriter/Artist honor, an award he originally suggested be created so non-artist songwriters would always have the chance to be honored. Ashley Gorley, writer of Song of the Year “You’re Gonna Miss This,” was the latest beneficiary of Jackson’s request, taking Songwriter of the Year.

Summer No. 1s: WGNA, WCTO, WYRK and KIIM The Summer 2009 diary-based Arbitrons began to roll-out last week, and our first overview of Country ratings is led by an almost three-point leap by WAMZ/Louisville and a two-share jump by WUBE/Cincinnati. Also enjoying large bumps were WCTO/Allentown and WYRK/Buffalo. We re-cap the markets as they come in each day in Country Aircheck Today, and provide this weekly overview of how Country stations have fared. As part of our weekly market-by-market offerings, with a few exceptions, only stations achieving at least a 1.0 share are included. Legend: A “+” indicates a Classic Country outlet, a “^” designates Country stations in the same market owned by a single operator and a “t” indicates a tie. A “NA” indicates a subscriber-only market, where rankings are not available.
