PresidentBradMartinandAthleticsDirectorTomBowenannouncedDec.2thatalumniBillandNancyLauriehavemadeanextraordinarygifttotheUniversityofMemphis. Their$10millioncontributiontothecapitalcampaignforathleticsfacilitiesisthesingle-larg-estphilanthropicgiftinthehistoryoftheathleticsdepartment, and the second-largest gift ever inthe100-yearhistoryoftheuniversity. BillandNancyLauriearebothgraduatesoftheUniversityofMemphis(thenknownasMem-phisStateUniversity).BillwasastartingguardontheMemphis Statebasketball team thatplayedinthe1973NCAAchampionshipgame.Theyarepassionatephilanthropistsandhavegivennumer-ousgiftsinsupportofthearts,athleticsandedu-cation.
