Bysecuringthe$10millionleadgift,theath-leticsdepartmentleadershiphasreachedasignif-icantbenchmark inthecapitalcampaign.Mem-phishasalreadysecured25percentofthefundsnecessarytoreachitsgoalof$40million,lessthan120daysaftertheplanwasunveiledbyPresidentMartin. All capital campaign funds have been dedi-catedtoathleticsfacilitiesontheUofM’sParkAv-enueCampus.Theplancallsforconstructionofanewmen’sbasketballpracticeandtrainingfacility,anindoorfootballpracticecomplexandasoftballclubhouse,whichincludesindoorbattingareas. It will additionally fund comprehensive up-gradesandrenovationstoexistingfacilities,suchasFedExParkandtheHardinFamilySportsCom-plex.Theupgradeswillincludeimprovementsincommon-use facilities that benefit each of theTigers18athleticsprograms.
• Friday’sNCAATournamentappearancewasthefourth-straight timeMemphismade the “BigDance”initsinauguralseasoninanewleague.
