INSTALLATION HIGHLIGHTS
It is IMPORTANT to read and understand thecomplete installation
instructions for your GAS orELECTRIC Commercial SmartCard dryers.
Theinstallation highlights will cover exhausting tips, gas line
installation tips, and electric dryer hookuprequirements. Full
comprehensive installationinstructions for your particular model is
shippedwith every dryer. FOR QUESTIONS ON INSTAL-LATION, CALL:
1-800-626-2003.
A good installation makes for good performanceand consist of the
following steps as outlined inyour installation instruction shipped
with theappliance.
STEP 1- Prepare the area and exhaust for instal-lation of new
dryer.
STEP 2- Check and make sure the existing exter-nal exhaust is
clean and meeted the installationspecifications.
STEP 3- Remove the foam shipping pads.
STEP 4- Move the dryer to the desired location.
STEP 5- Connect powersupply.
STEP 6- Connect the external exhaust.
STEP 7- Level your dryer.
STEP 8- Check the operation of the power supplyand venting.Check
the installation instruction forspecial installation for Alcove or
Closet, Bathroomor Bedroom, Mobile or Manufactured Home, forside
and bottom exhaust. They are completelycovered in the product
installation instructions.
FOR YOUR SAFETY:
WARNINGUse only rigid metal or flexible metal 4 diameterductwork
for exhausting to the outdoors. Neveruse plastic or other
combustible, easy to punctureductwork.
This appliance must be properly grounded andinstalled per the
appliance installation instructionsshipped with every
appliance.
Do not install or store appliance in an area whereit will be
exposed to water and/or weather.
Install the dryer where the temperature is above500 F. for
correct operation of dryer controls.
!
EXHAUSTING:
The MOST IMPORTANT element to good perfor-mance is VENTING the
dryer. With out sufficientairflow dry times will be longer and
linting willdevelop.
If you are installing in an existing wall duct makesure that you
make sure the internal duct openingis clear and that the hood
damper opens andcloses freely.
Minimum clearance to combustible surfaces andfor air openings
are: 0 in. clearance both sides and1 in. rear. Consideration must
be given to provideadequate clearance for installation and
service.

PREPARING FOR INSTALLATION OF NEWDRYER
-
8
EXHAUSTING:
NOTE: The correct exhaust installation isYOUR
RESPONSIBILITY.Problems due to incorrect installation are
NOTcovered in the warranty.
The MAXIMUM ALLOWABLE length of the ex-haust system depends upon
the type of duct, number of turns, the type of exhaust hood
(wallcap), and all conditions noted below. Both rigidand flexible
metal are shown in the chart below.
EXHAUST SYSTEM CHECK LIST
HOOD OR WALL CAP
-Terminate in a manner to prevent back drafts orentry of birds
or other wildlife.
-Termination should present minimal resistance tothe exhaust air
flow and should require little or nomaintenance to prevent
clogging.
-NEVER install a screen in or over the exhaustduct. This could
cause lint build up.
-Wall caps must be installed at least 12 in. aboveground level
or any other obstructions with theopening pointing down.
-If roof vents or louvered plenums are used, theymust be
equivalent to a 4-in. dampened wall capin regard to resistance to
air flow, prevention ofback drafts, and maintenance requied to
preventclogging.
SEPARATION OF TURNS:
-For best performance, separate all turns with atleast 4 ft. of
straight duct., including distancebetween last turn and exhaust
hood.
TURNS OTHER THAN 900
-One turn of 450 or less may be ignored
-Two 450 turns should be treated as one 900 turn.
-Each turn over 450 shold be treated as one 900
turn.
SEALING OF JOINTS
-All joints should be tight to avoid leaks. The malelend of each
section of duct must point away fromdryer.
-Do not assemble the ductwork with fasternersthat extend into
the duct. They will serve to collectlint.
-Duct joints can be made air tight by wrapping theoverlapped
joints with duct tape.
-Horizontal runs should slope down toward theoutdoors 1/2 in.
per foot.
INSULATION:
Duct work that runs through an unheated area oris near air
conditioning, should be insulated toreduce condensation and lint
build-up.
WARNING! - TO REDUCE THE RISKOF FIRE OR PERSONAL INJURY:
-Exhausting the dryer to the outdoors is stronglyrecommended to
prevent large amounts of moisturefrom being blown into the
room.
-Use only metal duct.-Do not terminate exhaust in a chimney, any
gas vent,
under an enclosed door (crawl space), or into anattic. The
accumulated lint could create a firehazard.
-Provide an access for inspection and cleaning of theexhaust
system, especially at turns. Inspect andclean at least once a
year.
-Never terminate the exhaust into a common duct withkitchen
exhaust. A combination of lint and greasecould create a fire
hazard.
-Do not obstruct incoming or exhausted air.

DRYER OPERATION
AIRFLOW AND SEALS(Electric Dryer)Proper air flow through the
dryer is essentialfor normal operation of the temperaturecontrol
and safety systems. Air is PULLEDinto the cabinet from rear, and
drawn upacross the heaters located behind the drum. This hot air is
PULLED through the drumrear across the clothes load, through the
linttrap and down the trap duct into the blower. From the blower the
air is PUSHED out ofthe exhaust system.
(GAS and ELECTRIC)Any air leaks between the air inlet and the
blowersuch as lower drum front felt or trap duct to cabi-net front
sealing will result in improper tempera-tures. The air being pulled
down the trap duct tothe drum outlet thermostat will be cooler
thannormal, giving the thermostat a false indication(delayed or
no-trip). Leaks ahead of the blower willalso reduce the volume of
air across the heatercausing hot spots and possible premature
failures.
TRAP DUCT SEALINGTo inspect the trap duct for proper sealing,
removethe lint filter and look down into the duct. With alight
examine the trap duct on all sides where itmeets the dryer front
for voids in sealing. Leaksmay be sealed with permagum.
AIRFLOW AND SEALS
As with the electric the gas dryer must haveproper air flow
through the dryer and is essentialfor normal operation of the
temperature controland safety systems. Air is PULLED into the
cabi-net. A portion of this air is heated by the gasburner in the
conbustion chamber and ispulled upthe rear duct into the diffuser.
The remainder ofthis air enters the diffuser directly through
ventsand is mixed with heated air. This hot air isPULLED through
the drum rear, across theclothes load, through the lint trap and
down thetrap duct into the blower. From the blower air isPUSHED out
the exhaust system.
