THUNDER AT THE LAKES NHRA DIVISIONAL RACE

If you want a little taste of what the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals is all about, then the Thunder at the Lakes NHRA Divisional Race is for you. Except for the pro classes, Thunder features the same classes that race during Nationals, including Top Alcohol Dragster and Funny Car. They put the “thunder” in this event as they rumble down the quarter mile at over 280 mph, piloted by some of the top drivers in the NHRA’s Division 5. Great racing and great family entertainment.

SCCA MEMORIAL DAY CLASSIC

Some of the top SCCA drivers in the country will be at BIR for the Sports Car Club of America’s Memorial Day Classic, which will feature national and regional racers on the track at the same time! That can mean only one thing for race fans – super competitive wheel-to-wheel action on BIR’s Competition Road Course. You’ll see Formula cars, sport racers, GTs, muscle cars, touring cars and many others. There’s no better way to spend your Memorial Day weekend then at BIR experiencing these two incredible events.

Strap yourself in for the first race of the three-race Outlaw Street Car Series, a wild display of raw power on the drag strip featuring the “fast five” classes: Pro Outlaw, Outlaw, King Street, Real Street Unlimited and Real Street Natural. Speeds reach 200+ mph and times can be 6-7 seconds. Also featured are eight Index classes, Strip Eliminator classes and more. Don’t miss this one!

NASA MIDWEST REGIONAL ROAD RACE

The National Auto Sport Association is returning this year with an exciting brand of road racing on BIR’s Competition Road Course. You’ll see wheel-to-wheel racing from a wide range of race cars and high-performance cars such as Mus-tangs, Camaros, Firebirds, Roadsters, Porsches and BMWs. Practice, qualifying and racing Saturday and Sunday. Kick off the summer at BIR by experiencing these two exciting events for one low price.

CHUMPCAR WORLD SERIESJune 4-5 & July 16

The zaniest racing on the planet returns to BIR’s Competition Road Course this year for two races. The ChumpCar World Series is all about $500 race cars and endurance racing, a wicked combination that guarantees loads of fun for teams and fans alike. On June 4-5, teams of four drivers compete in seven-hour endurance races each day, mostly for the love of racing and the chance to wrench on their hunks of screaming junk. It’s a Dual Event Weekend, with the Bracket Drag Racing Series on the drag strip. The July 16 race is a 14-hour endurance race. Both events are affordable racing for those who want to give it a try.

SPORT COMPACT & DIESEL WEEKENDJune 25-26

The 3rd Annual Modern Automotive Performance Proving Grounds and Jags Midwest Diesel Shootout is bringing high-pitched sport compacts, growling smoke-belching diesels and a whole lot more to BIR this weekend. Watch as diesels share the drag strip with turbo-charged imports and sports compacts. You’ll also see cars compete in drifting, autocross, a car show and more. This weekend has something for everyone!

The Fourth of July weekend in Brainerd wouldn’t be the same without the NAPA Auto Parts Show & Go. More than 400 cars do battle on the drag strip in classic fashion. It’s the second leg of the Outlaw Street Car Series featuring the “fast five” classes that provide crazy speeds (200+ mph) and raw power for race fans. Off the track, fans are treated to a classic car show, a fireworks display, live music Saturday night and activities for the kids. Join the festivities!

When the Sports Car Club of America brings its regional race to BIR, the action on the Competition Road Course is fast and faster. Formula cars, Mustangs, GTs, sport and vintage racers, Morgans, TVRs, Lolas – fans are treated to a wide variety of high-performance cars with drivers who aren’t bashful on the track. It’s three full days of incredible wheel-to-wheel road racing that’s a real treat for fans.

On the drag strip that weekend is the Bracket Drag Racing Series. See page 13 for more details. Both racing events for the price of a single ticket!

Labor Day weekend can only mean one thing: wheel-standing, high-powered drag racing! The 23rd Annual Muscle Car Shootout is a perennial favorite at BIR and will feature the third and final leg of the Outlaw Street Car Series – the grand finale! SCCA TRANS-AM SERIES

SCCA Pro Racing’s Trans-Am Series is back this year but will be bigger and better than ever. It’s a double-race weekend, meaning high-stakes competitive racing both Saturday and Sunday. The SCCA added two additional classes, meaning high car counts and unbelievable racing. You’ll also see the Playboy MX-5 series, and Formula Enterprise Pro and Spec Racer Ford Pro classes. NHRA WEST CENTRAL SUMMIT RACING ET FINALS September 16-18

BIR will host the top amateur drag racers from 22 racetracks across the Midwest and Canada during this annual showdown where the tracks send a team of up to 37 racers to compete for team and individual honors, not to mention bragging rights. Racers compete in five classes: Super Pro, Pro ET, Sportsman, Motorcycle and High School. BIR will have a team as well. It’ll be a slugfest on the blacktop!

BRACKET DRAG RACING SERIESThe five-race Bracket Drag Racing Series runs from May-October and features amateur Sportsman drag racers who slug it out for series points, prize money and, ultimately, a series championship. You’ll see dragsters, cars, pickups, snowmobiles, motorcycles and Junior Dragsters. You’ll see great drag racing along with something cool on the road course. Test & Tune – The Friday before each bracket race (except Sept. 30) is a Test & Tune that’s open to anyone.

SUPERBIKE RACING – CENTRAL ROADRACING ASSOCIATION

High-flying Superbikes challenge BIR’s 13-turn Competition Road Course and the 10-turn Donnybrooke Road Course, where riders speed around the track on two wheels and a knee.

It’s edge-of-your-seat racing that features a number of different bike classes and amateur racers, although you’d never know it by watching them carve up the track. Five weekends are on the schedule this year. Check the schedule for dates!

Some of the clubs, like the Central Roadracing Association, welcome fans to watch. Others prefer to close the track to the public. ROAD RACING Competitive road racing has made a significant comeback at BIR with the addition of the 2.5-mile, 13-turn Competition Road Course, a challenging track that allows BIR to offer road racing and drag racing simultaneously. Look to our Event Schedule for a list of dual events.

The track is certified by the Sports Car Club of America, which allows BIR to host super-com-petitive events like SCCA Pro Racing’s Trans-Am Series, the SCCA Memorial Day Classic, the SCCA Jack Pine Sprints and the NASA Midwest Regional. It’s also home to the BIR Performance Driving School.

The 3.1-mile, 10-turn Donnybrooke Road Course, which is BIR’s original track, is still in use after a colorful 43-year history of racing. Both tracks are very popular with car clubs and the Central Roadracing Association for its Superbike racing.

Daytime Parking is available on-track for $10 per vehicle per day, including motorcycles and those with disability plates or parking certificates.

Premium Daytime Parking is just south of the condos and costs $60 for Thursday-Sunday. Payable in advance.

Gate Parking is reserved parking near the front gate and costs $50 for Thursday-Sunday. Payable in advance.

Security is provided 24 hours a day during all spectator events. A security guard is on duty at the front gate at all times. For security issues, call 218-824-7215.

Track radio/announcer – BIR now has two radio frequencies to catch all the racing action.

• 105.3 FM for drag racing and events on the 3.1-mile Donnybrooke Road Course

• 87.9 FM for racing on the 2.5-mile Competition Road Course

Spectator and participant re-entry – Anyone wishing to leave and re-enter BIR must have their admissions ticket scanned on their way out and again at re-entry. Failure to have your ticket scanned when exiting will void your ticket.

Parking for non-NHRA Nationals events – General spectator parking is free and located on the BIR infield, behind the Grandstands for drag races and adjacent to most interior roadways for road racing.

Pets – Pet owners must fill out a pet waiver prior to entering BIR. All pets must be kept on a leash at all times and must be attended to. We are a pet-friendly track, so please pick up after your pet.

CAMPING• Only one self-contained camping unit is allowed in

each Full-Service RV Campground site. • Loud music is not permitted after 10 p.m.• Generators must be turned off or muffled by 11p.m.• All generators, air compressors, etc., that are

powered by an internal combustion engine must have the exhaust directed above the top of the trailer, truck, RV tent, etc., and clear of other campers’ areas or racers’ pits.

• Campfires must stay in the fire rings provided by BIR. If there is no ring, the fire must not exceed 3 feet in diameter.

AVAILABLE INSIDE BIR DURING ALL EVENTS:• On-sale and off-sale beer and liquor are

available at the Wheelie Bar & Grille.• Race fuel is outside the Apparel Store in

the condos.• ATMs are located under the main Grandstand
