n armed robbery on Friday 24 August at about 18:30 ended on a positive note as no lives were lost. A

A parent wrote an anonymous letter to the Highlands Panorama News. In this situation it is understandable that she wishes to keep her identity a secret.

    Robbed at gunpointin Lydenburg

The parent was returning home after fetching the kids from the Laerskool Lydenburg at about 18:30. When she arrived home they were held at gunpoint for about 15 minutes. She stated that it felt like a lifetime. The four men, who held the family at gunpoint, were well dressed and well spoken. They all had

weapons and demanded cash and jewelry from the safe.According to someone that passed the house the alleged robbers reverse parked their silver Audi in the driveway. They went through the house with socks pulled over their hands. The victim wishes to make it very clear that

people should be on the lookout when arriving home. These criminals came prepared and they were well organised! According to the victim the robbers must have known that it was only her and the children at home. They used this opportunity to their advantage. No one was injured. The SAPS is investigating the case.

emember that 68% of al l hijackings occur close to home, so be especially vigilant when R

pulling out of your driveway or coming home.If you have an electric gate, do not pull into your driveway before opening the gate. This can allow hijackers to box you in. Rather open your gate while your car is still in the road to allow a quick getaway if necessary. If you suspect you are being followed, put

your indicator on and slow down at least two to three houses prior to your home. If you are being followed, you will force the vehicle behind you to pass and this could cause the criminals to lose interest. If you have children in the car, the eldest child should be seated behind the driver and the youngest to the left.If you need to stop in your driveway to manually open the gate, always leave the key in the ignition and the motor running unless

you have a child in the car. Only then should you take the key with you as you open the gate. The key is a valuable negotiating tool -they want your car and you want your child.Always make sure you can see the back wheels of the car in front of you when you stop in the traffic. This gives you enough room to maneuver and escape.Even if you stay in a secure complex with security guards, you must remain vigilant. Research shows that most people relax, the closer they get to home and this is often when they are most vulnerable. In the unfortunate event that you are hijacked, how do you give your car over in a non-threatening manner? The first and golden rule is to not antagonise the hijackers who are probably more scared than you are. You need to show them you are not a threat.Lift up your arms to show you have no weapon and will surrender.

Use your left arm to undo your seatbelt and put your car in neutral. Do not turn off your car. Get out slowly and try and angle your body sideways so you are not facing a firearm head-on. Also remember to protect your head with your arms and to lift your shoulders to protect your neck area.Do not turn your back on the hijackers - your organs are most exposed from the back.Avoid direct eye contact with the hijackers but still try to take in what they are wearing, the sound of their voices, etc.Should you be hijacked while your children are in the car, climb out of the vehicle slowly and move to the back door directly behind the driver's door. Place one foot in the car as you lean across to retrieve the youngest child. The eldest child will probably cling to you and you can get both children out of the car at once. Remember to stay as calm as possible.

Raw sewerage, it just doesnt stop

Two bus drivers put the lives of other road users in jeopardy when they passed a bakkie on a no passing zone. The driver of a truck, who wishes to stay anonymous, said that he is aware that he is not allowed to take photos with his cell phone while driving, but he couldnt just sit by and let this happen without evidence. The driver, who took the photos, was driving towards Lydenburg from Ohrigstad.

The incident happened near the Spekboom Bridge. How many lives do they put in danger. They can just wait a few seconds and pass the bakkie safely, the driver said. Being impatient on roads will cost lives.

These photos were taken on Tuesday morning. The driver saw two busses overtaking the little bakkie on a solid white line, in a no overtaking zone, close to the Spekboom bridge.

The busses were only able to safely pass the bakkie after the turn in the road. In other words it was only a Higher Hand that kept oncoming traffic out of their paths.

Bus drivers place lives in danger by disobeying traffic rules

Chris stel my toe aan n plaaslike predikant bekend. n Aangename man. Skerp. Ek het respek vir n ou met n sin vir humor.

Maar dit het my laat dink. Hy het verseker n punt. Gelukkig was dit n klein skroefie. Ek sien hier is n nuwe hardewarewinkel in die dorp. Ek is bly. Miskien sal my inkopielys n paar moersleutels moet

insluit. Ek dink ek is bevoorreg.

Want my bly-dorp Dullstroom, se infrastruktuur het ontbreek. En ek vra myself af: Waardeer d i e Ly d e n b u r g e r s h i e r d i e t w e e riemtelegramme?

Pres.

Is ek reg of verkeerd?

Gun elke diertjie sy plesiertjie... met of sonder man en kind.

New in Town! We take no shortcuts!

    High speed unnecessary

High speed and a driver reversing into a busy street, were

the causes of an accident opposite Hannas Hardware in

Lydenburg last week. A car and a truck were involved and the car

was badly smashed up at the back. Motorists needs to realise

that they are driving near pedestrians and must obey by the

    rules to keep everyone safe.

Me.

farm on the Badfontein road, outside Lydenburg is open to the public this time of year. Visitors can take a picnic basket and spend a leisurely day underneath the trees and the beautiful bushes of Azalias. They also have a

huge nursery where visitors can support them. The outing is free. Phone them to confirm a time and to make sure that they know of your planned visit. Phone them at

groot is God se hemelruim werklik?

Tog skyn hy snags soos speldeprikkies byna vergete.

ken elkeen by naam.

The Rabies virus is mainly transmitted by the bite of an infected animal. Animals infected by the virus are characterised by behavioural changes, abnormal salivation, aggression, abnormal vocalisation, progressive paralysis and inevitably death. Rabies is fatal for man and animal, explains Dr. Marietjie Malan State Vet from the Directorate Veterinary Services. However, the disease can only be confirmed by submitting a brain sample from the infectious or suspicious animal. In South Africa not all human deaths are reported, because the disease is often associated with witchcraft. Rabies is responsible for laboratory deaths of between 10 and 40 people each year. Most victims are children under the age of 10 years, says Dr. Malan.Pet owners are compelled by law to ensure that their dogs and cats are vaccinated at three months of age against rabies. The vaccination should be repeated within 12 months and then every three years. In high risk areas animals should be vaccinated annually, advises Dr. Malan. All dog and cat bite wounds to humans should be reported at the nearest hospital and the state veterinarian should be informed, for investigation of suspect animals and their Rabies vaccination history. Thaba Chweu's Rabies Week will entail information dissemination and vaccination of pets free of charge. Dr. Malan advise owners to ensure that dogs will be on leashes and cats are manageable (orange bag or pillow case). Isnt it wonderful to see a success story amongst the cobwebs of Black Economic Empowerment and negative reporting of failures and then with the added bonus of a local business entrepreneur amongst our midst. This is the delightful success story of a local business man who has worked himself up and tasted the sweet fruits of success and hard work. He is the newly appointed Managing Director of Hot Dip Galvanising (Pty) Ltd, born, schooled and trained in Steelpoort Valley, just a stones throw from the platinum / chrome mining and industry on the indigenous Eastern limb of the bushveld complex, also known as the Steelpoort valley.Isaiah Maleka, husband and proud father of five children, believes his greatest achievement in life still is being married to Maggie and being father to their five children, Thabo, Neo, Kabelo, Tumisho and Ditebogo, learners at Steelpoort Primary School.Isaiah matriculated in the Steelpoort Valley at Sehlaku High school in Driekop. He obtained a Mechanical Engineer Certificate at Shikoane Metlala Technical College (also known as Madikoti), and subsequently joined the company some 15 years ago. He has worked himself up from the shop floor level to production manager and later sales manager, giving him the insight, know-how and experience needed to

Home Grown Talent & Hot Dip Galvanising plant only one of its size in Limpopo and Mpumalanga

manage the company on a day to day basis, ending up as Managing Director of the Company. Isaiah is grateful for the opportunity and mentorship under the guidance of Christo La Grange and assistance of Chappie Van Der Merwe, to achieve his highest spot in the business environment. Isaiah is an active member of local churches and the community since 1964 and has recently established a mini- manufacturing plant, employing 12 people of the community, under the supervision of his wife Maggie. The holding company, established some 17 years ago, has grown from a small humble company to a huge industry ranging from manufacturing to galvanising to crane hire with the international accredited ISO standard (ISO 9001: 2008), employing some 100 permanent employees and 150 contract workers on a fulltime basis, effectively supporting some 1000 dependants in the local community. Hot Dip Galvanising, now a household name in the Steelpoort Valley, has manufacturing facilities on the doorstep of all mines and local industry, 3000m under roof and currently erecting an additional 1200m of workshop space with 12 ton overhead crane facilities. The Hot Dip Galvanising plant is the only one of it size and magnitude in Limpopo and Mpumalanga with capacity of 650 tons per month and is running at current production of 400 tons per month. This state of the art plant will ensure minimum turnaround time at very competitive pricing. All the galvanising inspectors are

highly trained by the Hot Dip Galvanizers Association of South Africa. The Training was done in terms of SANS 14713 (ISO 14713), SANS 121 (ISO 1461) and SANS (EN 10210). As far as projects are concerned, all are carefully planned and because of this, the first step in the process starts with a fully operational drawing office. That is why all engineering and civil work is carefully drawn out by qualified draughtspersons and all the drawings are approved by the client or a PR Engineer, before any work commences. The draughting department designs the steelwork and structures to the clients specifications and needs. Some projects that are in process are the Spiral Plant Extension on Lannex Samancor Eastern Chrome Mine and the current contract with Two Rivers Platinum Mine, repairing and refurbishment of buckets, booms and h-frames. The product is manufactured to the required specifications according to ISO 9001:2008. As per ISO standard procedure the steelwork and structures are erected for pre-inspection and fitment. The structures are dismantled and sent for galvanising and then re-erected on site. Hot Dip Galvanising (Pty) Ltd is currently busy with the auditing and re-certification of the ISO 9001:2008. With Isaiah Maleka in the driving seat of this young but experienced and capable company, one can only but believe that this giant arising will soon be a force to be reckoned with in the Mpumalanga and Limpopo region.

Die Spekboompies by Wenakker.

NISSAN X-Trail conquers Epic Adventure around Lesotho. In a series of events which can only described as an epic adventure, Nissan's X-Trail has conquered a mammoth driving route around the Lesotho border in two tough and exciting days the Nissan X-Trail Epic Adventure: Once Around Lesotho. With two vastly different driving teams taking care of the two X-Trail 2.0 dCi XE 4x2 six-speed manual models prepared for the Epic, the compact SUV's fuel efficiency was put to the ultimate test under real world conditions ranging from smooth sailing on national roads to muddy mountain passes which fell victim to excessive snowfall in the Eastern Cape earlier in August. The novice team, represented by Xtreme Car & Leisure and DieselDrive Magazines, posted great results, achieving 7.06-litres per 100 km overall and under everyday driving conditions. With no special training or specific effort to reduce fuel consumption, this achievement goes to prove just how economical the X-Trail can be, without requiring mental and physical determination to do so.The expert team, captained by local economy run veteran Willie Nel (who has completed 36 events) and joined by Jacaranda FM's Ashley Hayden, posted truly astounding figures however, making use of professional fuel-saving practises and driving styles. The remarkable return of just 6.41-litres per 100 km overall goes to

Nissan proves fuel efficiency during X-Trail Epic

show that, should an effort be made, the X-Trail 2.0 dCi can be really economical. While frugal at cruising speeds on the open road, the impact of using lower gears on the Lundean's Nek and Naude's Nek passes was amazing to see, where low speeds and higher revs created a negative effect, commented Nel.The final figures translate into impressive range from the X-Trail's 60-litre fuel tank over 1000 km and with low emissions of 171 g/km, minimal environmental impact is felt along the way. Importantly, both vehicles achieved their inspiring figures with a full complement of luggage and passengers on

board, at high altitude and on at least 50% gravel roads. The Epic Adventure's route which began and ended in Harrismith in the Free State saw unconventional roads selected in order for the vehicles to stay as close to the Lesotho border as possible. Heading down from Harrismith to boutique town Clarens, the teams then set out for Ficksburg and Ladybrand, before passing Clocolan and on to Zastron. Having enjoyed tarred roads until this point, dirt roads formed the remainder of day one, the teams heading South towards Rhodes in the Eastern Cape right along the Lesotho border the Telle River being but a stone's throw away at certain points, with breath-taking views in every direction.Day two included traversing Lundean's Nek through to snowy Naude's Nek towards Matatiele, before heading Northwards up to Swartberg in Kwa-Zulu Natal, through Underberg and eventually landing back in Harrismith. With mostly dirt roads the order of the day, the X-Trail's build quality was put to the ultimate test, as well as its ability to handle rough roads at speed. With 203 mm ground clearance and high-profile tyres, neither X-Trail showed

any signs of strain or nervousness on various different road surfaces, whether they were negotiating terrible tar-road potholes or while traversing heavily rutted and potholed dirt roads. Continued Nel, The 4x2 X-Trail's ground clearance was remarkable, and the suspension was firm but not harsh, making tough terrain easy to negotiate. The torquey 2.0-litre diesel engine mated to well-spaced gear ratios was excellent in undulating terrain, with brisk acceleration met by exceptional economy.Even without four-wheel drive, climbing rocky ascents and even passing through the muddy remains of snow-covered passes (including Naude's Nek which had only been cleared of heavy snowfall just one day ahead of the Epic) was fuss-free and comfortable the X-Trail's suspension and interior comfort levels showing just how easy cross-country driving can be.Terry Mashoko, Product Manger: SUV at Nissan South Africa, stated: We are very pleased with the phenomenal fuel consumption that the X-Trails achieved. The X-Trail continues to be a lifestyle enabler for the adventurous at heart, whilst maintaining fuel efficiency and environmental consciousness. The figures achieved on the Epic go to show that even in comfort and at leisure, great fuel economy can be achieved.

We test the new GWM C 10OVER the last year or so, we have tested a number of products from Chinese manufacturer Great Wall Motors. These included the steadily selling GWM Florid and Florid Cross. This time around we go up one level. The new GWM C 10 is a pretty car from all angles, although the large, vertical grille might not be for everyone. From most angles however, there are elements of Yaris and even Polo to see.The C 10 is brand new. For R 134 990 you get a hatchback with very roomy interior with sufficient legroom at the back and a 1.5 litre engine with variable valve timing and fuel injection, making 77 kW and 138 Nm. Inside there are electric windows all round, electric exterior mirrors, remote central locking, integrated radio / CD with Aux and USB sockets on the console, adjustable power steering, twin airbags, ABS with EBD, proper instrumentation in front of the driver with digital fuel and heat gauges, airconditioning and satellite controls for the radio on the steering. On the road the car is quiet, even at speed and the suspension absorbs Lydenburgs badly potholed streets nicely. Build quality inside and out, seems to be good.At 120 km/h the engine turns at 3 500 rpm in fifth, 4 100 at 140 km/h and 4 600 at 160. Cruising at 140 is effortless and feels very safe. Four wheel disc brakes are very good and the car handles well, although it becomes somewhat busy at 160. There is more than enough power on the uphills for this size of car.Turning circle is nice and tight and the steering is light. There are fog lights front and rear, parking sensors at the back and the fuel tank holds 40 litres.Gear selection initially felt a little vague and the throw with the lever is long, but once you get used to it, selection seems to be fine. The radio seemed to struggle a bit holding on to radio Jacaranda on the Dullstroom road, and it continuously searched for a stronger signal in AF mode, but that can be switched off. Sound quality is good. The transmission housing leaves little space to the left of the clutch pedal for your left foot and guys with large feet will find it difficult to get very comfortable. The seats are nicely upholstered and are very comfortable. There is ample space in the glove box, door pockets and below the boot floor on top of the spare wheel. The boot is typically of this class of hatchback, rather small.Wheels are magnesium, shod with proper tyres to handle our poor roads. This probably contributes to the very nice ride offered by the C10.Overall the GWM C 10 offers a very good and comprehensive package at the price. If you are in the market for a new hatch in this price range, you should definitely test drive the C 10. Backup and service is available from GWM Lydenburg (next to Kia). GWM has already proven their quality and shown that they are in South Africa to stay. Well done.Andre Coetzee

Mazda CX-5 wins European AUTO BILD Design Award 2012Leverkusen, August 2012. Who's the fairest in Europe? Readers of the AUTO BILD Group have chosen winner and most attractive vehicle in the SUV, Van and All-Wheel category is the Mazda CX-5. About 200,000 readers from all AUTO BILD subsidiary publications in 15 countries voted on which European car has the best design in various categories. With 17.8 percent of the votes, the Mazda CX-5 sprinted away from its SUV and all-wheel competitors Audi A6 Allroad (second place with 10.8 percent) and the Audi Q3 (third place with 9.9 percent) to take home the European design trophy in its segment.Readers from the Czech Republic, Turkey, Georgia and Spain voted the Mazda CX-5 as their most attractive new car in its category. German readers voted the new compact third behind the Mercedes ML and the Audi A6 Allroad. But to ensure the victory, votes from all European countries were tallied. In 2009, the Mazda3 also won the AUTO BILD European Design Award in the Small and Compact Car category and it won even before official market launch in Germany. As the first production model with the new design language KODO Soul of Motion, Mazda CX-5 combines motion with the beauty and power of nature. The new Mazda CX-5 has a striking front face with prominent wheel wells. The vehicle seems to crouch forward in a way reminiscent of a sprinter in the starting blocks just before the gun goes off. Its cabin is placed towards the back of the vehicle, which makes the car look like a predator about to jump on its prey. The CX-5 cuts an elegant-looking figure with an overall design aesthetic that sets it apart from other SUVs.Symbolic for the new design language is the new front grille with a typical Mazda five-point shape that is deep and powerfully articulated, and reaches all the way to the front headlamps. The trapezoidal lower grille underscores its solid look, while the prominent rear wheel wells and the sharp-edged back end lend the Mazda CX-5 a strong yet elegant character. And the form of the rear lamps, which are similar to the front lamps, gives the back of the car a striking appearance. A sporty accent is set by the roof spoiler that also improves aerodynamics. A s W e d n e s d a y S e p t e m b e r 5 t h approaches, bosses will be scratching their heads on how to honour their secretaries on Secretarys Day without asking them to order flowers for themselves.A lunch? Chocolates? A letter? Flowers again? Heres an innovative idea that ticks all the boxes: green, thoughtful, different, lasting, makes a real difference, can help a school, bragging rights. BirdLife South Africa is doing a scientific project to understand exactly what is happening to South Africas Secretarybirds. Yep, the long-legged ones with quills behind their ears. They stride across the African veld meaningfully, apparently absorbed in their tasks, as hard-working as the best of secretaries. Catching snakes, mostly. Tracking them is tough, so a tracking device (worth R25 000) is needed to see where they go and what they do when they get there. BirdLife South Africa hatched a plot to help bosses reward secretaries, or help companies reward all their secretaries. For R500 contributors get an elegant card to thank their secretaries, noting that their contribution will gather invaluable data on the Secretarybirds of South Africa. There are greater contributions too: for R1000 the secretary will get feedback on the tracked birds movements, plus an original signed framed photograph, plus a serious contribution to a school. The school gets a BirdLife information pack on Secretarybird biology and conservation. For R5000 contributors get to co-sponsor a tracking device for a specific bird, plus card,

monthly feedback, signed photograph, information pack to school. This unusual gift is tax deductible and will enable secretaries and bosses to brag about the great work they are doing for this magnificent bird, now classified as Globally Vulnerable and in decline in our countrys grasslands. Of course any company is welcome to donate the entire tracking device, and rewards can be negotiated directly with BirdLifes Conservation Manager, Dr Hanneline Smit, who is heading up the research. BirdLife has a proud history of success in saving endangered species, with its saving of seabirds having been awarded conservation prizes worldwide for dramatically cutting the deaths of albatrosses and other seabirds by more than 80 percent. This Secretarys Day could make a difference to the future of Sagittarius serpentarius, a majestic creature, part of the South African Coat of Arms.Contac t B i rdL i fe South A f r i ca on

OF all the five senses, our hearing is perhaps the most precious. Deprived of this, we lose contact with the people we love and the world in general. Consider all of the sounds you encounter every day: friends chatting, children laughing, a favourite song, a loving remark. It is this invigorating, informative symphony of sounds that makes life richer. In addition to helping us communicate and socialise, our sense of hearing helps to keep us safe. A fire alarm ringing, a car hooting, or a child shouting Help! are just a few examples of vital signals that we need to be able to hear. We rely on our hearing in so many ways, which is why we should treasure and protect it. September is Hearing Awareness Month and Oticon, a leading Hearing Aid Manufacturer, is encouraging all South Africans to use this month to learn more about hearing and hearing loss. One should take care of one's hearing and find out what the early signs of hearing loss are. Use the month of September to get your hearing tested.

earing loss is usually associated with people of advancing age, the reality is that hearing loss can be experienced by people of any age including babies and young children. There are various causes of hearing loss and this ranges from noise-induced hearing loss to hearing loss as a result of an illness or disease. Early detection and intervention is imperative as this will reduce the risk of losing your hearing permanently, explains Nicolene Schoeman, an Audiologist at Oticon. There are three different types of hearing loss: conductive, sensorineural or a combination of both:Conductive hearing loss - Conductive hearing loss is caused by problems in the outer and middle ear, which can prevent sounds from getting through to the inner ear. The most common cause can be a build-up of wax in the ear canal, perforated eardrums, fluid in the middle ear and damaged or defective ossicles in the middle ear.Sensorineural hearing loss - This type of hearing loss happens when the delicate sensory cells or nerve fibres in the inner ear get damaged. This stops them transmitting sound to the brain properly, resulting in a decrease in volume and clarity of speech. The most common causes of sensorineural hearing loss are the natural process of ageing or excessive exposure to noise. This type of hearing loss is permanent in most cases. Diagnosis and TreatmentHearing loss can creep up slowly, so much so that the person affected is often the last one to know. In fact, friends, co-workers or family members are likely to spot the problem before you do. They might say, You are not listening to me. They may get annoyed because the TV is too loud and they may wonder why you do not react when a friend calls you or when the doorbell rings. The real problem is often not the condition itself but that we do not recognise it and do something about it early on. To avoid this fate, you need to be able to recognise the signs and get your hearing checked. People get their eyes and teeth checked on a regular basis, so why not add your ears to your health check list? It takes less than an hour to assess your hearing health and the sooner a hearing loss is detected, the better. In over 90% of cases of hearing loss, hearing instruments are the best solution. People are often surprised to see that today's instruments look nothing like their predecessors. The big beige bananas of the past have been replaced by sleeker, virtually invisible models that are as attractive as any other modern communication accessory, says Nicolene. Do a quick self-check: The following questions cover a whole range of everyday listening situations. If any of the problems

    Although h

listed seem to apply to you, you should contact a Hearing Care Professional (an Audiologist or Acoustician) for a consultation. These questions will allow you to make a quick assessment of your hearing.Do people seem to be mumbling? Do you have to strain to hear when someone talks or whispers? Do you have difficulties hearing someone call you from behind or from another room? Do you need to watch a speaker's lips more closely to follow the conversation? Do you find it hard to keep up in meetings, in restaurants, or in lectures? Do you have to turn up the volume on the TV or radio? Do you find it hard to hear clearly on the telephone? Do you have difficulties hearing at the theatre, cinema or other entertainment venues? Do you find it hard to hear in noisy environments like in the street or in a car? Do you tend to limit your social activities because it's difficult to hear and communicate? Do family, friends, or colleagues mention that they often have to repeat themselves? Hearing loss in children: According to Dr Swanepoel, Strbeck and Friedland (2009), every day close to 2 000 babies are either born with or will acquire permanent hearing loss within the first few weeks of life. At least 90% of them live in developing countries like South Africa. That means that every day there are at least 2000 new mothers and families faced with the emotional, social and financial challenges that come with caring for a hearing-impaired child. Hearing loss in a child can be caused if the child: is born prematurely; has stayed in the neonatal intensive care unit; is given ototoxic medications that can lead to hearing loss; has a family history of hearing loss; has had complications at birth; has had infections such as Meningitis or Cytomegalovirus; is exposed to very loud sounds or noises even for a brief duration. Identifying a hearing loss in children or infants is critically important. A hearing defect in babies inhibits the development of the baby's communication skil ls , making i t absolutely vital to have every infant tested. Older children may fall behind in school as a result of not understanding the teacher because of a hearing loss. By fitting a hearing device, students can improve their scholastic performance drastically. Speed of diagnosis is absolutely of the essence to minimise the impact of the hearing loss on the child's development, explains Nicolene. Steps to avoid noise-induced hearing loss:Here are a few tips to protect your hearing from noise: Always wear ear protection when working in noisy environments and try to rest your ears as frequently as possible. Never use MP3 or CD players at more than 60% of the maximum volume. Do not use music players for more than 60 minutes a day. Use cushioned earphones rather than small earbuds. Stay as far away from the source of noise as possible. Walk away when sounds get too loud. At home, turn down the volume on the television, radio, stereo and MP3 player. Reduce the number of noisy appliances running at the same time. Buy quieter products. When you are exposed to sudden loud noises (e.g. a jackhammer), cup your hands over your ears or put a fingertip into each ear canal. Hearing Care Professionals are employed in private practice, at most government hospitals and clinics. If the closest clinic does not offer these services, they will be able to refer you to the nearest centre where hearing testing is available. Awareness month is the perfect opportunity to take control of your hearing health and that of your family.
