3-year Primary Care Track (PCT) The Ohio State University College of Medicine Allison Macerollo MD, Kristen Rundell MD Program Overview A 3-year medical school curriculum was derived from the current 4- year curriculum (Lead.Serve.Inspire), and offered to those students who declare, at the time of application, an interest in pursuing family medicine as a career. The goal of this parallel track is to increase the number of practicing family medicine physicians (ideally in the State of Ohio) to address the predicted (and existing) shortfall of primary care and family physicians facing our state and the nation. Upon successful completion the students will be accepted in the OSU Family Medicine Residency Program. PCT Program Costs and Financial Aid Students receive a tuition scholarship covering 50% of in- state tuition in all 3 years PCT Student Support • Peer tutoring through first two years • Family Medicine faculty leading PCT student small group sessions and portfolio coaching • Networking and enrichment activities with family medicine interest group and family medicine residency program Advice for Other Institutions • Interview process through the medical school process with additional resident interviews. • Acclimating PCT students with the residency program through the interview process, teambuilding and networking events on campus, and regular didactic sessions, is important for student development • Having the additional layer of support from family medicine program directors, program faculty and coordinator is helpful for student support • Dedicated Program Coordinator for logistics and continuity • Some experiences should still be completed with the student’s cohort in the first and second year in order for students to remain connected with their medical school class • 3 curricular components were integrated in a longitudinal course entitled Ambulatory Clinical Experiences. This allows for completion in three years with a common thread through medical school and into residency.
