Word StudyWe use a program called Words Their Way. This program combines spelling and phonics. The students get a new set of words every
Monday. They will need to study how to sort them and
how to spell them all week. They will be tested every Friday.
Individualized ClassroomEvery classroom is different and may learn at
a different pace, however, we are all following the same SJCSD curriculum maps. Students will be assessed on these skills.
3rd Grade Homework ExpectationsEvery student will have a homework binder
that will go home nightly with their planner inside.
These homework binders may not be the same in every classroom.

Whitney Lab, Nease House Park, a musical or play, Colonial Musuem, Fort Matanzas, UNF Adventure, IMAX, Cummer Museum
Resource ScheduleThis year, resource is completed on a 5 day
schedule. This means that resource schedules will not be consistent based on the day.
Please check with your teacher to find your rotation schedule.
Grade BreakdownThis is the first year of the A-F scale. Grades are broken down as follows:
Tests: 75 %Quizzes: 15 %Projects: 10 %
Grade RecoveryStudents will test to mastery this year. Grade
recovery will only be for tests. When a student takes a test, the following guidelines will be put into place:If the score is 75% or higher, the student will
have the opportunity to correct their wrong answers for half credit.
If the score is 74% or lower, the student will be retaught by their teacher and then retested. The new score will replace their first grade.
Sunshine State BooksThere are 15 Sunshine State Books.Then they must take a paper pencil quiz to
show knowledge of the book. The list of books can be found on the Media
Center website. Please note, some of the books may have
content that you don’t want your students to read yet. Please preview the book with your student.
Mileage ClubBozard, Stecher, and Beaulieu will be doing
this on Mondays and Fridays.Worthington, Farnum, and Dempsey will be
doing this on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please make sure your student is dressed
appropriately these days as they will be running or walking during recess time.
Tuesday FoldersFolders will go home every Tuesday. Please return these folders the following day.In these folders, you will find:
Graded testsFlyers from PTO and the office
Home Access Center (HAC)Interims are due to go home on September
18We will not be sending paper copies of
interims home to everyone this year. With HAC, you are able to see your student’s
progress throughout the quarter. If you do not have internet access at home,
please contact your teacher and a paper copy can be sent home.
Paper copies of report cards will still go home this year.
