3. pointillism and types of lines

Look at the wheel of colours and answer:

- What are primary colours? - What are secondary colours? - How can we get these colours?

Artists mix a primary colour with a secondary colour to make a new colour

Pointillism is a technique of painting which uses small dots to compose an entire

painting. So the paintings are made up of tiny little dots of colour.

Georges Seurat and Paul Signac developed the technique in 1880, branching from

Impressionism.

Artists can also paint many lines that show movement. Vicent van Gogh painted

The Starry Night (1889).

As you can see, the swirling lines and bright colours make the clouds, stars and

moon look like they are moving around the sky.

Swirls, spirals, curved and wavy lines

express movement in an artwork.

Now, it’s your turn

-Make, at least, four different paper chains.

You can make dolls, animals, flowers, trees…

-Follow the instructions in the video

-Colour the chains by using the technique of pointillism

-Stick them on a sheet of paper

-Complete the background with different types of lines
