For more information call 731-772- 4578. NAACP free Thanksgiving dinner HHS holiday dinner concert Breifly Speaking Authorities arrived on the scene at East Main during a two-car wreck. No one was seriously injured. A two-vehicle crash took place on Tuesday afternoon at the traffic light at the corner of East Main Street where Super D Express store is located. Jackie Peterson, 59, was driving along East Main towards Court Square in his blue Chevrolet Malibu when he ran the red light colliding with Jesse Davis, 67, who was driving his grey Buick Sedan Deville. An anonymous driver, two cars behind Peterson, reported seeing Peterson braking suddenly at two previous lights. Davis was turning south at the light toward the Elma Ross Library when Peterson hit him. Peterson’s vehicle primarily hit Davis’ car on the driver side. The front of Davis’ vehicle, along with the driver side received the most damage from the wreck. An ambulance was called but neither driver was severely injured. Peterson is from Burlison, while Davis is from Haywood County. Davis was on his way to work as a bus driver when his vehicle was hit. East Main and Park scene of accident Tennessee Highway Patrol Retired Officers Association in 1985 elected to do a project in the prevention of child abuse here in Tennessee. The retired troopers, during their tenure of service witnessed many severe cases of child abuse. THPROA checks many child abuse centers across the State of Tennessee to select an abuse center to work with. The Exchange Club- Carl Perkins Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse of West Tennessee was found to be doing wonderful programs with the children even though they were experiencing a serious lack of funds. THPROA choose to contribute $8,000 to the Centers of Carroll, Crockett, Decatur and Haywood Counties. Members of the organization frequently make onsite visits to the centers throughout westerns, middle, and eastern Tennessee that are supported. Disbursements in excess of $30,000 are reviewed and made annually. Since the inception of the child abuse programs The Tennessee Highway Patrol Retired Officers Association has to this date contributed over $500,000 to various child abuse centers within the State of Tennessee. Also, the Teddy Bear Program was established to distribute the bears to aid in the wellness of physically challenged children. These bears are also placed in the troopers vehicles for them to use when investigating an accident where a child is involved. The THPROA commends the Exchange Club-Carl Perkins Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse for their quality of service and commitment to the lives of children and families across West Tennessee. The Tennessee Highway Patrol Retired Officers Association commends Carl Perkins Center’s child abuse programs Lt. Bob Yoakum, West Tennessee Vice President of the Tennessee Highway Patrol Retired Officers Association, presents a check to Beth Wilson, director of the Carl Perkins Center. Army National Guard Pfc. Marquita S. Bond has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises. She is the daughter of Rena Wilson of Coburn Rd., Brownsville. The private is a 2008 graduate of Haywood High School. Bond graduates from basic combat training Dr. Fred Campbell, pastor, and his wife Nancy celebrated their 10th anniversary at Holly Grove Baptist Church on Nov. 7. The church presented him with a plaque and the car pictured behind them. Holly Grove is located at 8488 Poplar Corner Rd. Holly Grove gift to pastor Rebecca Alsup, president of the University of Tennessee at Martin’s chapter of Public Relations Student Society of America, was awarded the National President’s Citation at the PRSSA Convention in Washington, D.C., October 15-18. Alsup, of Prospect, is a senior communications major. The National President’s Citation is awarded to chapter presidents who have met criteria that distinguish them as having demonstrated outstanding leadership to a local chapter. Out of more than 300 chapters across the country, 13 individuals received the award this year. “I’m very pleased that Rebecca received this honor. Without question, her active involvement and leadership have made our chapter an extremely active and involved PRSSA chapter, and she deserves the recognition that should come along with such actions,” said Dr. Jeff Hoyer, associate professor of communications and PRSSA adviser. During the convention, Hoyer received a service award for his 12 years of continuous service as UT Martin’s PRSSA chapter adviser. Hoyer and UT Martin public relations students, Amy Dysinger, of Bon Aqua, and Lori Winters, of Summertown, accepted the award on Alsup’s behalf. Alsup awarded PRSSA National President’s Citation Local businesses are invited to help light the way for Santa and the holiday season with window displays and lighting in this year’s Holiday Decorating Contest, sponsored by the Brownsville Business Association (BBA). “Our town always looks so festive during the holidays,” says Kent Moore, BBA president, “and our storefronts are the perfect place for us to convey warm wishes and share in the joy of the season.” The contest is open to all Brownsville and Haywood County businesses and you do not have to be a BBA member to enter. Cash prizes will be awarded for first ($100), second ($75) and third place ($50). Entry forms are available at the West Tennessee Delta Heritage Center, 121 Sunny Hill Cove, or online at www. shopbrownsvilletn.com. Entries must be received by Monday, Nov. 29, and judging will take place Thursday, Dec. 2. Winners will be announced at 6 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 4, prior to the Christmas Parade. Authorities arrived on the scene at East Main during a two-car wreck. No one was seriously injured.

A two-vehicle crash took place on Tuesday afternoon at the traffic light at the corner of East Main Street where Super D Express store is located.
