Are names important?(There are some that use nicknames, but those are not their real names.. For example, THE ROCK, THE HITMAN, MACHO MAN SAVAGE)… in real life, their names are: Dwayne, Brett and Randy,

This evening I want to concentrate on Isaiah 9:6. There, we have another chapter that has been the subject of much discrepancy among the religious world…What is killing many in their faith, are names. Yes, names that Isaiah prophesied about and that many say are not important…

Jesus has all of the Power. There is nothing that Jesus does not have. Anything that you mention, Jesus has. He is there.

When we obey the gospel, we leave "the domain of darkness" and are transferred into "the kingdom of His beloved Son…"

Colossians 1:12, 13… “12 giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light. 13 He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love,

Was Jesus, in life, Wonderful? Yes. Jesus was precious. Jesus was the wonder of His country, Jesus was wonderful for everybody in his days and He is still wonderful to all of us now…

Matthew 21:15… “15 But when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things the wonderful things that He did, and the children crying out in the temple and saying, "Hosanna to the Son of David!" they were indignant .

Judges 13:18… And the Angel of the LORD said to him, "Why do you ask My name, seeing it is seeing it is wonderful?" wonderful?"

Everything in the life of Jesus was Wonderful…Even today, in the year 2007, Jesus still continues to surprise us and many others, with His wonderful Power.

Over any other counselor that might exist before, now, and later, Jesus is above and over all of them. He is Mighty, He is the Counselor. The Hebrew word for wonderful is one that is used for things that are extraordinary or miraculous, literally full of wonder.

1 Timothy. 3:16: "16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifested in the flesh, Justified in the Spirit, Seen by angels, Preached among the Gentiles, Believed on in the world, Received up in glory.

Colossians. 2:3… “3 in whom are hidden all the treasures of treasures of wisdom and knowledge. wisdom and knowledge.

"Counselor". In the Hebrew, the idea is that His counsel is a thing of wonder and awe. In Jesus' teachings we have the absolute best advice on how to live our lives to be eternally successful. Though the Law came through Moses…

John 1:17… “17 For the law was given through Moses, butbut grace and truth grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

The term reveals that not only would He be all-powerful (mighty), but that He would also be God Himself!

In other words, He would not just have the power of God, He would be the God of power! Paul relied on the God of power when he wrote,

Phil 4:13… “13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Our Lord Jesus is "Mighty God". The word for "mighty" also means "hero", teaching not only the Deity of Christ but also His actions on our behalf to save us from doom. He is the greatest hero of all time for nothing compares to His sacrifice, love nor power.

And, He is "Immanuel" which means "God with us."

Isaiah 7:14… “14 Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.

Matthew 1:23 "Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel," which is translated, "God with us."

Philippians 2:5-11… “5 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, being in the form of Godbeing in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with Godequal with God, 7 but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. 9 Therefore God also has highly exalted Him God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus name of Jesus every knee should bowevery knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, 11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ confess that Jesus Christ isis Lord Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

II Peter 1:1… II Peter 1:1… “11 searching what, or what manner of time, the Spirit of Christ who was in them was indicating when He testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow.

Even true Christians stumble when they have to come to this description. Many say: I do believe that Jesus is God, but not the mighty God… how can that be? Or… Is He God or is he an impostor claiming to be someone He was not?!

Jesus is called: ETERNAL FATHER by Isaiah’s prophecy. Do you have a problem with that? Are we saying that Jesus is the father? No, we are not saying that. Jesus, the eternal Word of God, has indeed become our spiritual Father by giving us "the right to become children of God."

John 1:11-13… “11 He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. 12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave He gave the right to become children the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: 13 who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

Isaiah 57:15… Isaiah 57:15… “15 For thus says the High and Lofty One Who inhabits eternity, whose name whose name isis Holy Holy: "I dwell in the high and holy place, With him who has a contrite and humble spirit, To revive the spirit of the humble, And to revive the heart of the contrite ones.

In fact, when the Jews proudly told Jesus that they could trace their ancestral roots back to Abraham, Jesus said…

"Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham before Abraham was, I AMwas, I AM." (John 8:58)

The Jews were infuriated and prepared to stone Jesus because such a statement made Him equal to God, who gave His name as "I AM" to Moses in…

Exodus. 3:14… “14 And God said to Moses, "I AM WHO I AM." And He said, "Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, 'I AM has sent me to you.' "

The Hebrew writer reminds us that "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever." (Heb. 13:8).

That is Jesus… He is ETERNAL AND FOREVER…That is Jesus… He is ETERNAL AND FOREVER…

Only He could bring about reconciliation between God and man…

II Corinthians 5:18,19… “18 Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, 19 that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation.

Though faith in Christ brings conflict with the forces of darkness, and sometimes hardships and persecution and betrayal, it also brings harmony with God and a "peace that passes understanding." Even the announcement of the angels at His birth refer to this peace that we may have with God and His goodwill toward us because of the Savior

Luke 2:11-14… “11 For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 12 And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger." 13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: 14 "Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!"

Peace means literally "joining together" and this is exactly what Paul meant when he wrote,

Romans 5:1… “1 Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,

It was Jesus' voluntary, vicarious sacrifice for our sins that made this peace possible as in…

Isaiah 53:5… 5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.

Jesus Is the One who made peace with Jesus Is the One who made peace with God possible and He is the One who keeps God possible and He is the One who keeps us in that peace! The wonderful majesty of us in that peace! The wonderful majesty of the names of Christ do not end there. the names of Christ do not end there. Matthew tells us that Jesus fulfills the Matthew tells us that Jesus fulfills the prophecy… prophecy…

Perhaps the most wonderful name He possesses is that which we call Him by, "Jesus". "Jesus". The name means "God is my salvation" and was given to Jesus as an infant because…

"it is He who will save His people from their sins." (Matt. 1:21)

Without Him and His work on the cross, we would surely have no hope! So, what's what's in a namein a name? To those who are being saved by the One who wears the name above all names, the answer is "Everything!" "Everything!"

Now the question Jesus asks comes to you, "Who do you say that I am?" (Matt. 16:15).
