    PROBLEMS

Overcharging by illegal drivers, the biggest problem, impairs the reputation notonly o honest, hard-working drivers, but also the honest Serbians, because the taxidriver is one o the rst persons you meet in our country.

Cab drivers waiting to rip you o are o ten ound at bus and rail stations and taxistands near nightclubs, shopping malls, big concerts and mass events.

Illegal taxis look like legal ones. The registration number and thetaximeter are the di erences! Inan illegal taxi, the meter keepsrolling over! I you see somethingunusual, tell the driver to stopand get out o the vehicle. I thedriver is at all threatening, justcall the police! Dont listen toexcuses, con jobs or tall tales.

Be especially wary o legal drivers calling themselves independent taxi drivers. They are easy to recognize by the white sign with only taxi written on it. They o eryou expensive rides in expensive cars.

Such vehicles may cost you 30% more than a ride in a cab belonging to a taxiassociation mentioned above.

There isnt any real protection and youwill have to look out yourselves, the bestoption probably is to buy local sim card assoon you arrive to Belgrade. Price is 200

dinars (less then two euros) and using itwill save you money even i you use it just

    or calling a taxi!

CONTACTThe sa est way to get a legal taxi is by telephoning. Every taxi association hasdispatchers, who will send you the nearest car, generally within ve minutes. Justtell the operator the address where you want the taxi to pick you up, and you will betold how soon the taxi will arrive.

Contact phones o the biggest associations are:

All legal taxis have registration plates ending with TX

PRICESTaxi rides have three rates, tari 1, 2, and 3, which are charged as ollows:

TARIFF I charged rom 06.00 22.00h, city areaTARIFF II charged rom 22.00-06.00h, on Sundays and holidays, city areaTARIFF III charged to drive outside the city

For more in ormation about price (which can be changed),please ollow this link.

http://www.beograd.rs/cms/view.php?id=201690During the ride, look at the taximeter, always visible to the customer, which shows which tari is being charged. Keep an eye on the price o the ride. I the driver didnt turn on the meter ori its turning over too ast, mention it to the driver.

In some taxi companies luggage does cost extra!

Public transportation in Belgrade consists o bus, trolleybus and tram transportation.

Belgrade doesnt have a subway yet, so this is the astest and cheapest way o masstransportation. The city is well covered by bus and trolley ser vice, so you can get to almostany destination using public transportation.

Many lines start i n the city, the biggest hub o public transportation, especially the ollowingstations: ZELENI VENAC. TRG REPUBLIKE, TRG DIMITRIJA TUCOVICA and STUDENTSKI TRG.

Public transportation is divided in day and night transportation.

Day lines run between 4:00 AM and midnightNight lines run between midnight and 4.00 AM and run hourly.

Fares di er, depending on whether you buy them on the vehicle or at a kiosk, anddepend on the time o day. Night ares are bought on the vehicle.

Single ticket day transportation, on the vehicle 145 RSDSingle ticket day transportation, at a kiosk 72 RSDSingle ticket night transportation 120 RSD

You can buy tickets at kiosks all over Belgrade. I you dontlive in Belgrade, buy a PAPER UNPERSONALIZED CARD,which costs 40 RSD

This card works on a prepaid system and you pay, charging up the card, immediately a ter buying it.When the card is depleted, you can charge it upagain, or up to 600 RSD, or a maximum o 8 rides.

I you are in Belgrade o ten, you can buy PLASTICUNPERSONALIZED CARD which costs 250 RSD. You can charge thiscard in any amount and however o ten you wish.

Verifcation procedure o the are is very simple:

    1. Enter the vehicle at the marked entry

    2. Swipe the card on the electronic terminal next to the door

    3. I you have done it right you will get a sound con rmation and see a green light on theterminal, con rming the amount o credit remaining on the card. I there i s a problem, you

will see a red light and hear a reject tone.

TICKET CONTROLControl o cers equipped with ticket control devices patrol transit vehicles.

I you havent swiped your ticket, you will have to buy an EXTRA TICKET or 3000 RSD. I youdont have the money with you, the o cer will ask you or identi cation, and you will be nedand ejected rom the vehicle. You can pay the ne within 15 days, or a judicial proceeding willbe started against you.I you cant pay the ne, it is likely to be orgiven. The number o people accruing these kinds

o nes is huge, and the number o payments small, so the possibility o going to court isminimal.

City Tra c and Bus Plus, because o this situation, o ten o er people bargains and lesser nesas its the only way to get people to pay them.

Even though its not ideal, public transport o ers decent, priceworthy service. Newtrolleybuses and trams are very com ortable and new buses are coming into service.Regrettably, some older buses that shouldnt ever even pass sa ety inspection are still inservice.

Since the introduction o the yellow lane, public transport in rush hours is ar aster thanusing your own car. Since people that go to work by public transportation dont havea problem with parking, they can get to work aster and more inexpensively than theircolleagues who come by car.

I only the outstanding nes were paid, the quality o ser vice would probably be much better!

Parking in Belgrade is becoming a big problem. More, better cars, on the s treets cause tra c jams and make searching or parking spots very di cult.

To address the problem and discourage tra c and long term parking in the city center, theParking Service decided to split the city into zones. Also, this way, people who live in the citycenter can nd a parking spot.

But Belgrade doesnt have a metro, and busses and trams are disorganized, so a great numbero Belgrade residents still drive into the city center. Belgrade li e is harder i you cant nish

your business in the city center in an hour, two, or three.

    PARKING ZONES

Parking in the city center has been split in threezones:

REDretention in red zone is allowedor60 minutes .

YELLOW- retention in yellow zone isallowed or 120 minutes .

GREEN- retention in green zone is allowedor180 minutes .

Charges apply rom 7h until 21h every work dayand rom 7h until 14h on Saturday. On Sundays parking is ree.

Payment or parking can be made by text messaging to thenumber written on the signpost or that zone. When you opena new message, depending rom zone in which you are located, you should send:

REDyour registration number on 9111 YELLOWyour registration number on 9112 GREENyour registration number on 9113.

I youve sent a message right, you will get a con ormation that the payment has been done.Save this message, because its the only evidence o your payment.

I the time you paid or passes, you must send another massage to extend your parking time. You will receive a message with a notice that your parking has been expired. Price or parking depends on where you parked your car:

    RED 56 RSD = 0.46 Eur YELLOW 38 RSD = 0, 31 EUR

    GREEN 31 RSD = 0.25 EUR

This amount will be charged trough your phone bill!

I you dont have a mobile phone, you canbuy a parking card at a kiosk or rom auni ormed Parking Service Worker, wearinga hat, badge, and carrying a PDA device.Parking Service Workers are hard to catch, because they are moving all the time!

When you buy a parking ticket, you have toll it out and put it on your dashboard! For

each zone there are parking tickets. Parkingticket should be lled out with year, month, day, hour and minute when you started yourparking. The best place to put parking ticketis on your dashboard, where it will be visible through the windshield o your car.

Parking in one o the public garages is sa e but very expensive way o parking, and it cost 50-100 RSD = 0.4 0.83 EUR or each started our.

FINESI you orgot to send a text, or to buy a parking ticket to pay or parking, a supplementalcharge will be on your windshield. (1870 RSD = 15.58 EUR) This ticket allows you parking or24 hours rom the time written on the ticket.

Supplemental tickets should be paid within 8 days; otherwise you will have legalconsequences. They will sue you, and you will pay the ticket and court costs.

I you parked your car properly, on a marked parking spot, your vehicle will not be towed

away. I you parked on spots reserved by a yellow marking, in a green area, zebra stripesyour vehicle will most likely be towed. The penalty or inappropriate parking and towing isaround 90 EUR.

SHORTCUTSIn theory this system should give satis ying results, make the lives o citizens easier and llthe citys co ers, but as in every system, there are loopholes.

Because the Parking Service is not provided by the police or border control, it is very di cultor them to collect. Tickets are paid, in practice, only by conscientious citizens, or thoserightened by the lawyers o the Parking Service.

I your vehicle has oreign plates, just remove the ticket rom ront window and throw it away, because there is no possibility o charging you in other countries. Because o this unde nedsituation, Parking Service isnt capable o taking action against people who dont respect therules.

I this problem is s olved, people who havepenalties will have problems, and becauseo that many people decide to pay theirparking tickets, or: it is better to paya little money now, than have biggerproblems later on
