Initiative developed due to an identified gap in our BCP program.

Historically contact information was held on plasticized cards and continuously out of date.

Trigger for change was NCR earthquake 2009.

This initiative looked at a cost effective solution to using existing technologies.

Technologies being considered were BlackBerry and Active Directory.

Trusted Data Sources– Corporate Directory (Active Directory)– BlackBerry Enterprise Solution

BlackBerry® Push Technology– Provides information immediately– Secure Encrypted Transmission– Optimizes network efficiency

Cost / Level of Effort

Infrastructure

– Use existing technologies and Infrastructure - $0

– Development time – 3 months of effort

– No license costs

Implementation

– Training the help desk and staff

– Procedures need to be created

Future considerations

– Could be used to store BCP plans and/or fan-out lists

Conclusions:

Initiative has provided true business value and closed a significant gap.

This is an inexpensive solution derived from existing technologies and infrastructure.

HRSDC exploring expanding initiative to additional groups.

HRSDC willing to share all documentation and assist GoC on this initiative however resources are very limited.

Privacy Impact Assessment, Statement of Sensitivity and Threat Risk Assessment will need to be completed.

ECL support specifications :– ECL request are routed via the National Service Desk.– The request are either handled by the BlackBerry
