THE PRESIDENTS Ph.GE: GREETINGS:
MISS JOSEPHINE 11ILLER IS THE WINNER OF THE CONTEST TO NillvIE THE PUB
LIC;,TION OF THE "RK-Lt.-TEX GENEiLOGIC,;L A.sSOCI~lTION. Her choice was Genie. We will strive to make the publication as helpful to your genealogy search as luaddin's Genie of the magic lamp. Thank you, Miss Miller~
Second placp winners are Mrs. Cleo D. Schoolfield and Mr. Waldo Moore. Mrs. Marguerite Nation and Miss Margie Sue Norton are the third place winners. Books will be placed in the Genealogy Room in the name of the winners.
The decision was difficult, since so many of you turned in such excellent ideas for the name.
THE SUMNER \10RKSHOP WILL BE HE.LD AUGUST 11 - 12, 1967. The meetings are to be held in the Genealogy Room of the Shreve Memorial Library. Please check the last page of the Genie for the program. There will not be a formal luncheon meeting Saturday, but the Big Chain Cafeteria (across the street from the library) will Eeserve a private dining room for the genealogist who wish to eat there and get acquainted. Coffee will be served in the Genealogy Room. Due to the efforts of Miss Elizabeth Miller, Hiss Josephine Miller and Randy Tiller souveni:ers and favors will be given to participants by local merchants and businesses. A door prize has been made available through the courtesy of H.L. Bath and Company.
However, all of this is very incidental to the worth of the workshop. We URGE you to attend that you might hear our speaker, Jane Clancey Huddleston.
Hrs. James Huddleston is the president of the Genealogy Society of Hesquite, Texas. She was one of the founders of this active group and the first president as well as the first editor of its bulletin. (Available here)
Jane is an extremely versatile person. She has published several musical arrangements for choral groups. In her role as mother of three children and wife of a psychiatrist, Jane was named Homemaker of the week by her city. She teaches voice lessons, plays the organ for her church, and is active in the P.T.A. In addition to genealogy, she is interested in stamp collecting, antique collecting, sewing and weaving.
Jane is of a local family, attended high school here as well as Centenary before taking her degree at Baylor.
We urge all of you to attend this workshop and to bring a friend.
This issue is double the usual size since length of the new books in the Genealogy Room was so long and since we feel the need to publish the Caddo Conveyence Records, which had been started by the Louisiana Register but never completed. These records are being run here and to the completion of the task.
SEE YOU AT THE WORKSHOP NEXT HONTH !f David E. Washburn, Vice-Pres.
For your convenience and ours, would you please fill in the blank below and mail it to us. *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** .** *** NAHE Addre-s-s---------------------------------------------
I plan to attend the Workshop. I plan to bring _____ number of guests.
Name of family (one or two) that I am now working on.
Question that I would like to ask during the Question and Answer Period: (The question should be a general question, not a specific family).
