Srinagar, Jan 17: Hosts Lone Star Kashmir FC were held to a scintillating 1-1 draw by Kenkre Sports Mumbai in their last home match of the second divi- sion, I-League at Synthetic Turf, TRC ground, here on Sunday. Kenkre Sports nearly man- aged to upset the favorites, Kash- mir FC by scoring the first goal of the match in last moments of the first half. However, in second half, Kashmir FC bounced back with some decent attacks in which they were able to score equalizer. With the qualifying spots for the main round of the league already decided, it meant that outcome of the match will have no impact on the points table. It was the match, in which Kenkre who have been poor this season tried their best to end season on positive note while as home side tried to give something to remember for home crowd in last home match of the season. After having made terrific, impact on last Sunday against Dempo FC, spectators who thronged to venue in large were expecting Kashmir FC to domi- nate the things in the middle. However, Kenkre played with their heart out and gave some scary moments to Kashmir FC side. They came close to opening the score in early minutes of the match but couldn’t convert those close chances. Though Kashmir FC managed to settle down after 20 minutes of the game, they still were unable to stop Kenkre for- ward line from moving up. It was defense lapse on part of Kashmir FC that allowed Kenkre striker Arish Sutaria to score in 44th minute of the match. At half time, Kenkre led score line by 1-0. In second half, Kenkre backed by capacity crowd were domi- nant than then the visitors. They kept mounting pressure on Kenkre defense and even came close to score goal on sev- eral occasions. On 85th minute of the game, when it looked like Kenkre would leave from Kash- mir by inflicting first home defeat on Kashmir FC, Atinder Mani leveled the score for the team. Only two minutes later, Kashmir FC came close to score winning goal, only to see Farukh missing the header. The match ended on 1-1 draw. It was last match of the first round and from the zone Min- erwa FC, Dempo and Kashmir FC have qualified for the main. Hailing his team for keeping the record clear of remaining unbeaten on home soil, Kash- mir FC, coach, Hilal Parray said that he would have liked to finish with win but nothing can be taken away from Kenkre. “I am proud of my side for coming from behind and set- tling for a hard fought draw. It kept our record of being unbeat- en on home soil intact. It was important to finish season on high and I would have liked to sign off with win in the qualify- ing round. However, we should not take anything away from Kenkre who played beautiful and aggressive game,” he said. “To see the support from the fans for the team is amazing. They cheered our every move and kept boosting the morale of the side. It is important we keep doing well in home match- es so that interest of fans stays intact. We have been successful in that and Insha Allah will be successful in future as well,” he said. About the main round, he said, “It is new format that came into place this season. The teams that have made it into the main round are all top quality sides and have done well in the zonal round. We will try our best to play well and qualify for the main league”. Kashmir Traders and Manu- factures Federation, President Muhammad Yaseeen Khan was chief guest on the occasion. 14 Greater Kashmir SRINAGAR | January 18, 2016, Monday CHETAN NARULA Melbourne, Jan 17: India's bowlers today produced yet another sloppy performance to allow Australia clinch the five match ODI series by taking an unassailable 3-0 lead as they cruised to a three-wicket vic- tory in the third match despite a heroic century by Virat Kohli. Batting first, India scored a decent 295 for six in 50 overs with Virat Kohli scoring a run- a-ball 117 en route his 24th ODI century. In reply, Australia never looked in trouble as they knocked off the required runs with 1.1 overs still remaining. Glenn Maxwell put paid to India's hopes of an elusive win with a superlative 96 off 83 balls that had eight fours and three sixes as the bowlers once again undid the valiant effort from the batting unit. The fielding was also not upto the mark at times. Umesh Yadav (2/68 in 9.5 overs), Barinder Sran (0/63 in 8 overs) and Ishant Sharma (2/53 in 10 overs) found it difficult to contain the batsman. Aaron Finch (21 runs, 23 balls, 3 fours) and Shaun Marsh (62 runs, 76 balls, 6 fours) start- ed off at almost six runs per over and the rate didn't come down even with early bowling changes. Debutant Gurkeerat Singh Mann dropped Finch in the 6th over, with the batsman on 20. But it had yielded a wicket, with Finch caught behind in the 8th over off Ishant. Steve Smith (41 runs, 45 balls, 5 fours) then came to the crease and started off without feeling any pressure. He added 64 runs with Marsh, who scored a second consecutive half-century play- ing in place of David Warner, and the 100-mark coming up breezily in the 16th over. Aus- tralia were keeping abreast of the run-rate, and Smith was into his forties in the blink of an eye. Against the run of play then, in the 19th over, Ravin- dra Jadeja (2-49) got one to spin away from him, and he edged it to slip with Ajinkya Rahane happily accepting the catch. His dismissal brought India back into the game with George Bailey (23) stumped in the 27th over. Dhoni showed another quick thinking and brilliant glove-work moment when he ran out Mitchell Marsh (17) off an Umesh Yadav (2-68) throw in the 36th over. In between, Shaun Marsh was out caught pulling off Ishant in the 30th over. And when Matthew Wade (6) holed out against the same bowler in the 39th over, Austra- lia were reduced to 215/6. But Maxwell then played a superb hand, with an unchar- acteristic watchful innings to score his 13th ODI fifty. In doing so, he put on 80 runs off just 63 balls for the 7th wicket with James Faulkner (21) and over by over, the hosts edged home to a win. Earlier, Kohli's hundred guided India to 295/6 in 50 overs. 2nd Division, I-League Kashmir FC end home season with scintillating draw Australia win 3rd ODI by 3 wickets India surrender series after another pathetic bowling show PIC: AMAN FAROOQ/GK MISSION DIRECTOR NATIONAL HEALTH MISSION, J&K Jammu Office: Regional Institute of Health & Family Welfare, Nagrota, Jammu Fax: 0191-2674114; Telephone: 2674244.Pin: 181221 Kashmir Office: J&K Housing Board Complex, Chanapora, Srinagar.
