What is a polygon? A polygon is a closed plane
shape made out of straight lines.
The lines that make up the polygon are called sides.
The points at which the lines meet are called corners.
What is a polygon?A polygon has the same number
of sides as it has corners.
Polygons can be broken into two categories:
irregular
regular
What is a regular polygon?
A regular polygon is a polygon with all sides and corners equal.
What is an irregular polygon?
An irregular polygon is a polygon with different sides and angles.
Now let’s discuss different polygons…
The triangle… The triangle has three sides and
three angles.
It can be regular and irregular. It all depends upon the angles and
sides.
The rectangle…
The rectangle is an irregular polygon because the sides are not
equal.
The square…
The square is a regular polygon because all its sides and angles
are equal.
The pentagon…
The pentagon has five sides and five angles. It can be a regular or
an irregular polygon.
The hexagon…
The hexagon is a six sided polygon. It has six angles. It can
be regular and irregular.
The heptagon…
The heptagon is a polygon with seven sides and seven angles. It
can be regular and irregular. It all depends on the sides and angles.
The octagon…
The octagon is an eight sided shape with eight angles. It can be
regular and irregular.
Polygons around us…
Polygons surround us everywhere we go.
If we go shopping we may see a rectangular polygon saying that
the shop is closed.

If we walk in the street we see many different polygons to be
used by drivers or by passers by.

Signs around us have different shapes.

Different shapes have different purposes.
A square or a rectangular sign gives information.
A rectangular or square polygon…

A triangular polygon…
A triangular sign displays a warning. Be careful!...
Other Polygons…
Octagonal signs give orders.
Orders should be obeyed to avoid inconveniences to
everybody.
Without signs…
Without signs our life would be without direction.
